Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 1200hrs 1-20 Infantry to Charlie Company plans for tonight ambush from BS788473 to BS818418 along river. At 1250hrs Division Commander arrived at LZ Liz and departed at 1312hrs. At 1300hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC reports all bunkers are in good condition and all have plumb bobs, Alpha Company inspected by CPT Thomas, 1-82 Artillery by 1SGT Jarosz, Headquarters and Headquarter Company by CPT Holmes and Rear by PFC Robinson. At 1340hrs 1-20 TOC we request clearance for 1 unit to move through the 11 Brigade Fire Zone form grid BS825406 to BS825406 to LZ Bronco between DATE/TIME 171300hrs February and 171700hrs February 1970. At 1429hrs 1-20 Infantry request a Urgent Dust Off for 1 US with a head wound, name Himes, he was hit by a rock from a blast (friendly), completed at 1435hrs LZ Liz. At 1515hrs the Battalion Commander left LZ Liz and is going out to the access road to check out the area, return at 1600hrs.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
February 16, 1970
Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0840hrs Alpha Company the 13 element is moving out of perimeter on defense patrol. At 1500hrs 1-20 Infantry Urgent Dust Off for 1 US with head wound Name Hines, he was hit by a rock from blast (friendly) complete at 1435hrs. At 1500hrs A Charlie Company 39 Engineer Vehicle on the access road took 20 to 30 rounds of sniper fire from the wood line to the north. We spotted two VC/NVA wearing pith helmets and carrying weapons. We engaged with small arms fire with negative results Alpha Company and Bravo Company swept the area and uncovered 8-10 spider holes BS772443.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company is using multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation today. Bravo Company 32 element and Rangers are moving to BS784414 and BS775437 respectively. At 0943hrs Bravo Company request Urgent Dust Off for 3 PF with multiple frag wounds, they hit a booby trap, Chi Com trip wire type grenade completed at 0954hrs. At 1645hrs Bravo Company the 76 element has closed on their mission they detained 2 male VC and they said the known of 2 more Chieu Hoi tomorrow at the North Bridge. At 2130hrs Bravo Company our Command Post received 8-10 rounds of sniper fire with M-79 and M-16 and later we put Artillery on BS783433.
Charlie Company

At 1230hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC to Charlie Company plans tonight ambush BS788473 to BS818419 along river. Charlie Company 72 element destroyed two 155mm duds, found unknown quantity of WD 1 wire at BS827473. Charlie Company 12 found concealed bunkers destroyed. The Command Position found concealed sleeping positions underground at BS824418 with air holes and steel trap doors. At 1636hrs Charlie Company Command Post is moving to their Night Defense Position at BS819439. At 1810hrs our Command Post is in their Night Defense Position at BS820425. At 1815hrs Charlie Company the 42 element is moving to their snake location and at grid BS804448 they spotted five VC sitting around a fire. We engaged them with small arms resulting in one VC KIA and 1 VC WIA, the Dust Off was made by Dolphin 19 at 1820hrs, the one of the VC who evaded had a weapon, also had some food, medical supplies, and clothing CIA in the area. The 42 element found 3 sleeping position, 2 blankets and some documents. At 1700hrs Charlie Company we need an Urgent Dust Off for 1 Vietnamese female, about 70 years old, with multiple frag wounds of the body at grid BS804448. The female was hiding in a bunker and the frag wounds turned out to be sores, completed at 1712hrs. At 2000hrs Charlie Company the 32 element is at BS807443 and 35 is at BS800450 and the 36 is at BS815438. At 2025hrs Charlie Company also reports 72 at BS816425, 74 at BS818419, 75 at BS815432, 42 at BS790453, 43 at BS790448 and 45 at BS490548. Charlie Company reports on UDT at 1455hrs to 1800hrs at BS849400: found possible cave at water level leading into a mountain also found a ledge at water level where coke cans, a steel helmet and signs of recent inhabitation were evident. At BS853400 to BS851403 found numerous caves and indication of activity and temporary inhabitation and at BS850401 found 1 sampan 20’ long in excellent condition, it was with ropes and rocks, result destroy sampan. At BS852402 found footprints on beach made within the last 6 hours. At BS850400 found 2 large fish nets in good conditions also found 3-1 man boats held under water by rocks and 3-1 boats on the land. 5 Boats had been damage and small arms and fire they will attempt to destroy the boats at a later date.
Delta Company

At 0815hrs Delta Company will check the area BS710420 and BS715428, BS723420 for possible 100 NVA with many weapons. They have weapons and they are collecting supplies PHO Nghia cancel check of grid BS7043 and at 1128hrs. Delta Company 32 element in location, Command Post is ready to sweep area. At 1325hrs Delta Company we have completed our sweep and are moving back to BS733452. At 1355hrs Delta Company 72 found an OP their position at BS720461. The position is covered with a rock, we request Helix to put an Air Strike on the position. At 1930hrs Delta Company reports we are at our Night Defense Position at BS729427. At 2035hrs Delta Company reports their snake locations 42 at BS715435, 43 at BS719430, 44 at BS713428, 72 at BS718420, 73 at BS724413, 32 at BS726406 and 33 at BS739423.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 1320hrs all Recon Platoon snakes locations are at Robin Hood BS746398, Little John at BS745395 and Will Scarlet at BS748400. At 1415hrs Recon Platoon our new snake location for the Will Scarlet element is at BS750401. At 1710hrs are moving and at 1930hrs Recon reports all elements are in location Robin Hood at BS746397, Little John at BS745395 and Will Scarlet at BS750401.
