Forward Area: (1-20 Infantry Headquarters) is located at LZ Liz and will continue to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0955hrs Primo 5 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter. At 1130hrs S-4 Dolphin 445 is on station for resupply. At 1145hrs Primo 5 is breaking Station. At 1600hrs Q Company spotted 3 VC with weapons vicinity BS673591 and engaged with 6 rounds fleshette from 106 RR, also Artillery rounds fired into the area. Nghia Hanh is sending PF into the area, checked with negative findings. At 1850hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC requested a Area of Operation Extension for ARVN BS7750 along trail to BS797470 to BS8247 along coast to BS8052 to start with time frame ASAP to 192400hrs December 1970 approved by CPT Parker. MACV Mo Duc at 1330hrs vicinity BS743686, 1 RF tripped 1 booby trap while on patrol to recover a boat full of stolen rice. Booby trap was believed to be a 105mm Artillery round, resulting in 1 RF KIA from 712 RF Company. At 2050hrs Blue Ghost on station request clearance for Box 68, cleared by LT Lewis. At 2106hrs LOH spotted possible muzzle flashes from northwest quadrant of box, checked the area and found that the flashes were north of their box, so they did not engage. At 2220hrs Blue Ghost 40 is on station sent to BS753446 to help Recon, spotted 1 VC wearing black and evading north vicinity BS752439 and engaged at 2235hrs. Blue Ghost also spotted 4 VC wearing black living in a rice paddy vicinity BS757449 engaged at 2243hrs Recon moved into the area to check it out. They found 1 male KIA, approximately 18-20 wearing black at BS752439. They then moved to BS757449 and found 4 KIA wearing black ages 18-25 all males. All KIA confirmed for Blue Ghost 40, bodies had negative unit identification. Legend: 1st Platoon 83-88, 2nd Platoon 33-38, 3rd Platoon 03-08, 4th Platoon 63-68 and CO 09.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
December 16, 1970
At 0630hrs Alpha Company moved out to their Patrol Bases and will continue the heavy Patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1805hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon vicinity BS681535 while in their Patrol Base, spotted 4 NVA with weapons moving in a Northerly direction toward their Patrol Base. They engaged them at 300 meters with small arms and M-79 fire, the enemy evaded into a wood line to the West. Alpha 3rd Platoon also sighted 2 more NVA to the south of their Patrol Base, the Element moving to both locations BS680535 and BS678529. Artillery fired into the area, 3rd Platoon moving in to the area to check it out, found marks that looked like someone had been dragged off, but it was to dark to look for a blood trail. At BS678533 Alpha Company they found a trail marked with bamboo strips, trail was very well used, apparently for night movement. Element is setting mechanical Ambushes vicinity BS680530 and BS681535.
Bravo Company

Charlie Company
December 16, 1970
Charlie Company continued their patrolling and VIP program. At 1230hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon vicinity BS759383, bought 1 Chi Com, 1 M-79 HE round, 1 claymore clacker tester, 1 81mm Mortar round,(MA-112-17 Date: 10-68) safety pin had not been pulled. Paid 2 meals C Rations to 2 Vietnamese males ages 10 and 12, rounds were destroyed in place. At 1420hrs Charlie Company Command Post at BS759383 had 6 Vietnamese males, age 8 to 12 bring 9 155mm Artillery fuses, 1 fire cracker bomb let, 1 60mm Mortar tear drop round, paid 4 meals C Rations, all were blown in place rounds were too rusty to see lot numbers. At 1940hrs Charlie Company elements are Command Post, 3rd, 4th, Platoon in location vicinity BS752388, the 3rd Platoon ambush at BS758403, the 2nd Platoon at BS773361 with ambush BS773365 and the 1st Platoon at BS730420 with the 1st Platoon ambush at BS735556.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued to use multiple patrols, in their Area of Operations. At 0850hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 1 at BS757575. At 0900hrs Delta Company 3rd Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 1 at BS776549. At 1020hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon patrol is moving to BS752568, 3rd Platoon patrol is moving to BS773554 and the 1st Platoon is at checkpoint 1 at BS756580. At 2022hrs Delta Company Command Post 1st and 4th Platoon BS50525, 3rd Platoon BS780553 with ambush at BS780548 and 2nd Platoon ambush BS774558.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 2045hrs Recon Platoon is moving out for BS742454. At 2130hrs Recon Platoon while moving to their ambush location vicinity BS749442, engaged 3 to 5 VC with packs and weapons at 400 meters to their north. They received incoming small arms fire from BS753446, requested Illumination moving into area to check it out, negative Artillery fired due to proximity of a hamlet. Recon Platoon has received sporadic sniper fire from hamlet vicinity BS753446 and had negative findings at original contact location. Believe that the VC evaded to the northeast. Blue Ghost also spotted 4 VC wearing black living in rice paddy vicinity BS757449 engaged at 2243hrs Recon is moved into the area to check it out. They found 1 male KIA, approximately 18-20 wearing black at BS752439. They then moved to BS757449 and found 4 KIA wearing black ages 18-25 all males. All KIA confirmed for Blue Ghost 40, bodies had negative unit identification.
