Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0035hrs Nui Vong on alert at 0035hrs alert is over by 0038hrs Alert was caused by inadvertent firing of red star cluster by a speak easy, 100% at 0036hrs judged satisfactory by the Office in Charge. At 0825hrs Commanding General will be in Brigade TAOI between 1000hrs to 1600hrs. Very good possibility he will visit LZ Liz and Nui Vong. At 0900hrs Access Road is clear and open. At 1015hrs 1-4 ARVN Battalion while on a Search and Clear mission have 2 VC KIA and 1 German M-1 machinegun and 5 Chi Com grenades at BS729290. At 1100hrs S-4 reports convoy has arrived. At 1130hrs 4-4 ARVN Battalion has ambushed 1 NVA with results of 1 NVA KIA, 1 machinegun and 5 Chi Com CIS at BS459512. At 1300hrs Inferno 59 Bravo 123 Aviation is on station for APD 59. At 1400hrs General McDonough arrived on LZ Liz. At 1429hrs Combat Assault of Bravo Company and Recon, AMC is on station at 1340hrs 1st PZ 1407hrs and Last and 3rd LZ is 1428hrs at LZ Liz, Combat Assault is completed at 1429hrs and AMC and lift ships are released. At 1500hrs General McDonough departed heading north discussed phase out of LZ Liz. At 1521hrs S-4 Convoy is leaving LZ Liz to Chu Lai, 15 vehicles and 34 people. At 1525rhs Blade time re supply 0700hrs to 1800hrs, LOH 1100hrs to 1200hrs. At 1910hrs Access Road is closed. At 1945hrs TMF String 292 Target C was activation with metal confirmation, has 7 to 10 personnel moving west to east at 3 miles per hour, negative clearance at 1950hrs at BS645573. At 2035hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Field Strength Alpha 45, Delta 58, Echo 12 and HHC 6. At 2153hrs LZ Liz is on 100% planned practice alert. Bravo 100% at 2154hrs, Charlie Company at 2155hrs, 105 Artillery at 2154hrs, 155 Artillery at 2155hrs, South OP at 2155hrs, other OP at 2154hrs 4.2 Mortar at 2154hrs and Reaction Force at 2156hrs Cease fire at 2156hrs, alert terminated at 2228hrs Alert was judged satisfactory by 1-20 Battalion Commander. At 2322hrs MACV Duc Pho PSDF of Pho Long made contact while on ambush with unknown size enemy force with results 1 civilian WIA, enemy unknown at BS775446. Legend: 1st Platoon 59, 2nd Platoon 56, 3rd Platoon 89, 4th Platoon 97 and CO-29.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company is on the move to their Patrol Base at BS648524. At 1225hrs Alpha Company Command Post 1st Platoon is at BS660526 and 2nd Platoon at BS649532 and closed on Patrol Base at 1230hrs location BS648524. At 1520hrs Alpha Company is located at BS658529. At 1923hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon found 90 rounds of M-60 ammo in a hedge about 1-2 days old BS663528 and at 1945hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon and 2nd Platoon Command Post in Night Defense Position at BS664531 with 2 Mechanical Ambushes out.
Bravo Company

At 0715hrs Bravo Company has moved to PZ at 649504 and at 1429hrs Bravo Company and Recon Platoon conducted a Combat Assault to LZ Liz and taken over the Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 2153hrs LZ Liz on 100% planned practice Alert completed at 2156hrs. Alert judged Satisfactory by 1-20 Infantry Battalion Commander. Bravo Company and Charlie Company has the Security Mission for LZ Liz.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 2153hrs LZ Liz on 100% planned practice Alert, terminated at 2228hrs and was judged satisfactory by 1-20 Infantry Commander.
Delta Company
August 16, 1971
At 0820hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon moving to their location at BS667486. At 1414hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon moving out to their checkpoint 1 at BS66486 and then to checkpoint 2 at BS668487 and finish up at BS670487. At 1915hrs Delta Company is in their Night Defense Position at BS665485.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0735hrs Recon platoon is in their PZ location at BS649504. At 1429hrs Combat Assault of Bravo Company and Recon, AMC is on station at 1340hrs 1st PZ 1407hrs and Last and 3rd LZ is 1428hrs at LZ Liz, Combat Assault is completed at 1429hrs and AMC and lift ships are released.
