Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0345hrs TMF at 0309hrs S-75A sighted 4 personnel moving northeast to southwest at 2 miles per hour, negative metal confirmation shot at 0330hrs 6 HE VT rounds 105 Artillery. At 0945hrs Division effective immediately, Hooks can no longer be used for passenger movement without Commanding General approval, a directive is being prepared now. At 0940hrs 1-20 Infantry requests 2 flame tracks ASAP for 2 Missions 1 Burn Mangroves and 2 Burn Van Troung, Received word back that Division has only 1 flame track and it is on a week’s project. Division recommends we use flame drop, Brigade will check with Chemical, to see if they can do it. At 1203hrs 1-20 Infantry request Area of Operation extension Date/Time/Grid to 170600hrs to 192400hrs September 70 from BS670540 to BS640540 to BS640572 east along river to BS670582. Purpose Combat Operations of Alpha Company to Brigade at 151215hrs Lockhart approved as Upper Left BS6658 to Lower Right BS6754. At 1845hrs Primo 3 came on station at 1830hrs worked for Alpha Company, the area to the west of their Night Defense Position helped the Alpha 27 element spotted 2 personnel with weapons, Primo 3 broke station at 1920hrs. At 1915hrs RF OP’s at BS750532 and BS763532 reported seeing a force of unknown size at BS758534, a Fire Mission was fired on this grid. Initial Artillery split the force into cells, at which time the larger segments were seen evading to the north. Delta Company notified, Gun Ships checked the area where force was initially spotted, Shark 6 spotted possible movement, fired up area. Thought they received return fire, verified by RF, Gun Ships broke station at 2145hrs, they reported possible enemy movement in tree line checked out with negative findings. At 1920hrs Brigade effective immediately all Air Calvary and Nighthawk requests will be submitted to Brigade TOC not later then 1400hrs day of planned use. At 2000hrs 1-20 Infantry requests Night hawk ASAP, BS7455 to BS7755 to BS7751 to BSS7551, reference to MACV Intelligence of a Company size unit spotted and engaged. At 2100hrs Charlie Company 4-3 Infantry Night Locations, 31 Night Defense Position at BS697380, 53 at BS699398, 58 at BS700411, 23 at BS702388 and 28 at BS705395. Also 83 at BS713393 and 88 at BS716399, all locations where passed on to Charlie Company 1-20 Infantry. At 2100hrs Bronco Initially being hit by 5 rounds 60mm mortar fire, Artillery was called on suspected enemy location. Investigation showed rounds, were fired where friendly M-79 fired from 1 side of perimeter to the other. At 2155hrs 1-20 Infantry Area of Operation extension request for 4th ARVN Regiment Date/Time/Grid 160800hrs to 211800hrs, BS725590 to BS768610 to BS789548 to BS746530 disapproved by LT. D. Legend: 1st Platoon 53-58, 2nd 23-28, 3rd Platoon 83-88, 4th Platoon 63-68 and CO 31.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
September 15, 1970
At 0730hrs Alpha Company all elements are moving to Day Logger at BS681579. At 0922hrs Alpha Company at BS674576 the 84 element found 2 bushels of corn, 2 bushels of rice in containers around hootches, also found 4 fighting positions in the area. About 50 meters to the west of the area found 2 1/2 bushels of corn and 100 pounds of corn in a sack. Alpha Company also had 2 VC KIA, 1 AK 47, document, tea medicine and assorted personal belongings. The 2nd Platoon walked up on them while they were sitting in a fighting position. Alpha Company has a total of 50 detainees, assorted male and female, IPW wanted them all sent in. Alpha Company 2nd Platoon had I US hit a pressure type booby trap and had to Dust Off with multiple frag wounds to legs, 2nd Platoon spotted 2 personnel with weapons, checked the area with negative finding. Alpha Company 31 element is in the Night Defense Position at BS6755766. Alpha Company reports SP4 Billy J. Wilson was evac to the 91st Evac Hospital with tram Amputation of Left foot.
Bravo Company
September 15, 1970
Bravo Company Urgent Dust Off at BS738614 for US who was hit in the hip by a sniper fire, gun ships requested and granted, line #99 Dust Off completed at 0720hrs. Bravo Company 23 element received sniper fire from the south and northeast approximately BS739614. The 31 and 53 elements were sweeping the area at the time estimated enemy moving to the northwest, the 31 element has picked up one male detainee 28 to 30, No ID at BS733613 and the Kit Carson Scout says definitely VC. At 1045hrs Bravo Company 23 element observed 1 male evading northwest at about 400 meters fired warning shots and engaged with small arms fire resulting in 1 KIA, 1 pistol belt and 1 M26 hand frag, destroyed, 40 years old and bad ID. PFC Buddy J. Walters was evac to the 27t Surgical Hospital with gun shot wound to tight.
Charlie Company

At 0711hrs Charlie Company 87 element is moving out for BS725434 and the 27 element is moving out for BS724454. At 0715hrs Charlie Company 23 element closed on BS734454, the 25 element closed on BS732462 and the 56 element closed on BS728415. At 0940hrs Charlie Company 85 element engaged 1 enemy with small arms fire at BS717442, he was 250 meter from the 85 element when engaged evaded northwest, Charlie Company using multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation today.
Delta Company

At 0711hrs Delta Company 85 element is moving out for BS768556. At 0800hrs Delta 25 is moving out to BS761558 and 57 is moving out to BS747576. At 1015hrs Delta Company 87 element is moving out to BS759651. At 1645hrs Delta Company 23 took 2 M-79 rounds from BS756566 impacted approximately 200 meters west of their location negative casualties, returned fire, patrol moving out to check out area. At 1945hrs Delta Company 31 element is moving out for BS754560 and the 53 element moving out for BS745579 with the 83 element moving out for BS764557. At 2035hrs Delta Company Rat will be delayed 30 minutes due to, too much light. At 2145hrs Delta Company 31 and 23 at BS753560 spotted 2 personnel with pack and weapons, 300 meters to the west of their Night Defense Position engaged with small arms fire Delta Company 23 swept the area with negative finding. At 2200hrs Delta Company 83 spotted movement from their Night Defense Position and they fired the movement up. They are searching the area at this time, 83 closed at 2255hrs with negative findings.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 2200hrs Recon Platoon is moving out for BS740452. 1-20 Infantry reports Rear Area went on 100% Alert due to incoming, back to normal at 1250hrs. At 2355hrs Recon Platoon while on their patrol picked up 2 detainees from a hootch at BS755452. The reason that they were detained was that they’re ID didn’t match up with the area, Kit Carson Scout felt that they might be VC Honchos, they are 43 and 55 years old.
