Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and continued their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0125hrs LZ Liz we received 3 rounds 82mm mortar by bunker 18. At 0840hrs Bunker Line has been inspected. 0945hrs Helix 33 FAC request clearance on grid BS827408 for Air Strike, grid cleared.
Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion.
Alpha Company
October 15, 1969
At 0905hrs Alpha Company 54 element is moving out for today’s operation. At 1105hrs our 54 element closing on Day Logger and at 1225hrs Alpha Company another Landing craft just beached so far we have one bulldozer with trailer. At 1430hrs Alpha Company Urgent Dust Off request the 54 element while making their sweep hit a booby trap at BS785535. Two US were wounded. The Charge was buried under the ground. Names Ayer with a head wound behind left ear, Rulison with frag in the chin and upper chest ETA 15-20 completed at 1445hrs and Ayer was evacuated to Chu Lai 91st Medical (BS785535). At 1553hrs Alpha Company extracted coordinates of Booby trap grid BS786523, The booby trap was a frag grenade lying in a bush near the village and did not look as if it was to be intended, to be placed on the trail, trip wire detonated. DANEL GRANT RULISON LISTED AS KHA. Alpha Company reports that PFC Ronald H. Ayer was evac to the 91st Evac Hospital.
Bravo Company

At 0655 Bravo Company at grid BS783483 last night at about 0045hrs we had a trip flare go off figure some animal but we fired on it anyway and will check it out in the morning. After checking the area we found 1 NVA KIA, 16 to 17 with a pack, weapon AK-47 and a full magazine, and documents, and weapons serial # 3550. The Ranger moving out at this time as we are moving to Day Logger. At 1005hrs Bravo Company Initial contact report at BS778421 and Urgent Dust Off requested Our 5 element received several rounds of sniper fire and 1 KHA US also request Gun Ships 1 gun shot to thigh (KHA) Name Trbovich and the man with chest wound is Helmick Grid BS778424 completed at 1027hrs. At 0850hrs Bravo Company Ranger and RF conduct a Combat Assault from Southern Bridge to BS762420 with 1st PZ at1835hrs and Last LZ at 1845hrs. PFC DAVID JOHN TRBOVICH LISTED AS KHA Bravo Company reports that PFC Robert A. Helmick and PVT Glen M. McCarty where evac to the 91st Evac Hospital.

Delta Company is located at Chu Lai for their Stand Down.
Echo Company
October 15, 1969
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0512hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Observe Mission 2 with total expend 3 HE rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At 1617hrs Recon Combat Assault from LZ LIZ and Duc Pho to BS795473 PZ 1609hrs and LZ 1616hrs, one lift on two ships. At 1625hrs Recon and PRU at BS785535, we have 2 NVA KIA dressed in green uniforms, each with a pistol belt and canteen. One had a US frag grenade, 1 9mm Chi Com Pistol and documents all where turn over to MACV Duc Pho. We also have 2 Chieu Hoi Man and wife and a VCS. The Chieu Hoi turned over Documents and grenades all turn over to MACV Duc Pho. At 1711hrs Recon is Combat Assault from BS795473 to LIZ PZ 1705hrs and 1st LZ 1710hrs.
