Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0505hrs Blue Ghost 41 is breaking Station. At 0815hrs 1-20 Infantry AMC Helicopter on station for Combat Assault of Charlie and Delta Companies, Battalion Commander departed LZ Liz. At 1300hrs Combat Assault has 14 lefts, 1st PZ at 0847hrs and last LZ was at 1122hrs, completed for 1-20 Infantry. At 1352hrs 76C at Nui Vong, Q Company on patrol around Nui Vong, looking for dud M-79 rounds, found 1 RPG round, Chinese type at BS700600. It was believed to have been in place less then 2 weeks. Found between 2 rocks and destroyed in place. At 1530hrs Primo 4 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter. At 1529hrs 1-20 Infantry S-4 Resupply bird is breaking station. At 1536hrs 1-20 Infantry Helix 37 is on station and sent to Alpha Company. At 1622hrs Helix 37 is braking station at this time and at 1627hrs Primo 4 is braking station at this time. At 1915hrs TMF Radar sighting at BS714439 sighted 5 to 8 personnel moving northwest request Fire Mission and engaged at 1922hrs expended 28 HE rounds 105mm Artillery. At 2230hrs TMF at 2213hrs S-61C sighted 4 personnel that where moving east to west with negative metal confirmed and engaged at 2218hrs with 8 HE rounds 105mm Artillery. Legend 1st Platoon 12-18, 2nd Platoon 62-68, 3rd Platoon 82-88, 4th Platoon 32-38 and CO 44.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

At 0644hrs Alpha Company reports all snakes have closed on Night Defense Position. At 0930hrs Alpha Company the 12 element is moving to BS754623, 12, 44, 32 is moving to BS760610 and 62 is moving to BS760600. At 1030hrs Alpha Company at BS75622 requests Urgent Dust Off for 2 US who hit booby trap. Both received frag wounds to the body, line number D-9268, M-3372 the booby trap was a can of Petna with a pressure release device sat on trail opening about 10 feet from a hedgerow. The Dust off completed at 1045hrs At 1150 Alpha Company at BS752622, 3rd Platoon has 2 detainees in the area of where booby trap was hit at 1030hrs. Detainees where 1 male 57 years old, wearing black bottom and purple top, both had ID’s and will send in on back haul. At 1435hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon at BS760600 had 1 man bitten by a dog, both the dog and mans extracted to the rear by the resupply bird Line # F5230 SGT Ronald M. Foster. Alpha Company 2nd Platoon at BS768609 detained 1 50 years old male, negative ID at BS768609, wearing white and purple, he was working on the beach, extracted on resupply because of no ID. At 1518hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon found 2400 pounds of unpolished rice. This year harvest, in good condition half was found in what appeared to be a coffin in front of a hootch and the other half was found in 55 gal drums hidden in a hedgerow and well protected from weather by plastic rice bins, also Alpha Company is presently bagging rice, for extraction tomorrow grid BS761605. At 1645hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon found I medical bag vicinity BS760600, it contained Darvon, Sulfa and other assorted pills. It was found next to a hootch, concealed with leaves. All materials had foreign writing on them, believed to be Chinese, this bag was extracted by resupply bird, man who was bitten by dog will hand carry. At 1817hrs Alpha Company 12, 32 and the 44 element is location at BS763614. Alpha Company reports SP4 Garwin I Deroin a 1030hrs evac to B 23 Medical with multiple frag wounds legs, chest and arms treated and released and PFC Frank W. Manning 1030hrs evac to 91 Evac with frag wounds right arm, right left multiple frag wounds both legs and left hand and forearms.
Bravo Company

At 1535hrs Bravo Company at BS755587 and Bravo Company 2nd Platoon requests 1 Routine Dust Off for 1 US with Malaria symptoms, Dust Off completed at 1550hrs. At 1610hrs AF 5 and 2nd Platoon check out the tunnel structure vicinity BS738592 point out by AF 5. They found 30’ to 35’ tunnel. It was approximately 1 year old and been destroyed quite awhile ago. There was no evidence of recent activity and they had negative finding inside the tunnel. At 1718hrs Bravo Company 2nd Platoon found 1 Booby trap at BS759574. It was a hand frag with trip wire, located in a wood line and blown in place. At 1652hrs Bravo Company detained 1 female while on patrol, dressed in black, age 25, was evading to the west, negative ID, detained at BS765586 by the 82 element, will sent into Military Intelligence. Bravo Company 3rd Platoon found the following items while on patrol: zip gun, metal type with bamboo handle vicinity BS740573, also 10 7.62 rounds expended and 10 unexpended 7.62 rounds. Also claymore mine Lot #l09-2-109 date 12-3, in the claymore bag with black pajamas inside at BS738574 along with 1 expended law M-72 tube, believed to have been used by VC as a mortar tube.

Delta Company
November 15, 1970
Delta Company conducts a Combat Assault with Charlie Company started at 0847hrs finish 1122hrs and closed into LZ Liz for Security Mission. At 1450hrs Delta Company at BS662557 3rd Platoon detained 1 male approximately 40 years of age. He evaded to the southwest and was picked up by the 2nd squad, 3rd Platoon. He has negative ID and was wearing all white. They will be sending him in on the back haul. At 1450hrs Delta Company at BS665574 request 1 urgent Dust Off for 2 personnel, l sucking chest wound, 1 with multiple frag wounds across the shoulders, hit booby trap. (Name: Bucklew and Thomas). Dust Off Completed at 1512hrs. At 1540hrs Delta Company follow-up: Report 2 personnel who hit Booby Trap. Booby Trap was a hand grenade, located in a open field with a lot of high grass, not on a trail, it was a trip wire, made of fishing wire, there was also a great deal of barb wire in the area. At 1710hrs Delta Company 3rd Platoon at BS675569 found 1000ft spool of light green fishing line, in an abandoned bunker, they destroyed it, and continuing to search the area. At 1725hrs Delta Company 12, 44, and 32 in location at BS666576, 62 at BS668575 and 82 at BS672578. At 1915hrs Delta Company all elements in location 16-BS676576, 64-BS683571, 66-BS66564, Command Post at BS678571.Delta Company reports PFC Stephen F. Bucklew with arms, Multiple Frag wounds across the shoulders and PFC Thomas J. Thomas with frag wound back where evac to the 91 Evac.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for the 1-20 Infantry.
