Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0825hs 1-20 Infantry at 0720hrs LRRP Idaho was inserted at BS673402. 1-20 Infantry reports at 1115hrs LRRP Idaho vicinity of BS644364 found hootch, 3 tunnels, and at 1010hrs found 5 hootch complexes with the results destroyed and engaged and killed 2 VC and request extraction at BS650370 position is compromised by VC. At 1900hrs LZ Liz at BS715435 observed 2 VC moving east on highway 515, at BS710437, spotted 11 NVA/VC with packs, called in Artillery with unknown results. At 2250hrs LZ Thunder received approximately 600 rounds small arms fire and automatic weapons fire from BS863327 and BS859319, negative casualties, return fire with unknown results.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
March 15, 1969

Alpha Company continued the Security Mission for LZ Charlie Brown with local ambushes today 1 Platoon conducts Recon in Force vicinity BS9219. At 0410hrs Alpha Company at BS915245 the element on Bridge #95 heard noises and snoring, fired 81mm mortars with unknown results.

 

Bravo Company
March 15, 1969

Bravo Company has the Security Mission for LZ Liz and today 1 Platoon conducts a Recon in Force vicinity BS7240.

 

Charlie Company
March 15, 1969

Charlie Company has the Security Mission for LZ Thunder with local ambushes and today 1 Platoon conducts a Recon in Force vicinity BS8732.

 

Delta Company
March 15, 1969

Delta Company established multiple ambushes east of LZ Bronco, today became OPCON to 3-1 Infantry. At 1040hrs Charlie 3-1 Infantry completed a Combat Assault from LZ Dragon to LZ vicinity BS795428 (cold) and commenced saturation patrolling and made contact with unknown size NVA element. Contact began at 1100hrs and continues at close contact, Gun Ships and tracks from E Troop 1-1 Calvary were use in direct support. Alpha & Bravo Companies 3-1 Infantry joined the contact moving north from LZ Bronco closing in on grid BS8042. And 3-1 Infantry assumed OPCON of Delta Company 1-20 Infantry with Delta Company conducted a Combat Assault from LZ Bronco to BS802435 completed at 1615hrs then conducts a move south joining Cordon on Grid BS8042 with results at close of action 14 NVA KIA, 11 IWC, 1 US KHA and 16 US WHA. At 1600hrs vicinity BS818393 Delta Company 1-20 Infantry received small arms fire, results in 1 WHA (E). At 1630hrs Delta Company 1-20 Infantry engaged 4 NVA evading with results was 4 NVA KIA. At 1745hrs Charlie Company 3-1 Infantry Alpha Company 3-1 Infantry 1 man WIA Dust OFF completed at 1707hrs, Charlie Company 3-1 Infantry 11 WIA, Dust Off Completed at 1700hrs, with 1 KIA, E Troop 2 WHA Evac, and Delta Company 1-20 Infantry 2WIA Evac and 6-11 Artillery 1 WIA evac. At 2000hrs Contact ended with results 33 NVA KIA, 9AK-47, 1 M-16, 1 Law, 2 RPD Machineguns, 1 RPG Launcher CIA Alpha Company 3-1 Infantry has 2 WHA (E), Charlie Company 3-1 Infantry report 2 KHA with 13 (E), 1 WIA (M), Delta Company has 2 WIA (E) and E Troop 1 CAV has 2 WIA (E). (PVT WILLIAM JACKSON (Died of Wounds) SGT DONNIE JOE MARTIN LISTED AS KHA both Charlie Company 3-1 Infantry). Delta Company reports that PFC Frederick Velasco was evac to 27th Surgical Hospital.

 

Echo Company
March 15, 1969

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Bronco, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for LZ Liz Base Defense. At 0705hrs Recon at 0600hrs vicinity BS707434 spotted 6 VCS on bikes, results 2 males age 23 where KIA, captured 6 bikes negative with negative weapons. At 1000hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at LZ Liz. At 1930hrs Recon Platoon at BS776424 engaged VC with 2 VC KIA in black PJ. At 0700hrs Recon Platoon at vicinity BS769515 observed 1 male with black PJ and ran away with negative results.
