Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 1230hrs RF 422 vicinity BS910145 while on operation received sniper fire resulting in 1 RF WIA, not US confirmed, time of incident 0730hrs. At 1231hrs 3-4 ARVN at 0900hrs vicinity BS906286 while on Search and Clear Operation made contact resulting in 5 VC KIA, CIA M-79, 3 packs, and 15 Chi Com grenades. TO Brigade S-3 FROM 1-20 Infantry: S-3 requested 3 Scout Dogs for tomorrow 1 for to Charlie Company and 2 to Alpha Company. Also request the Scout Dog Commander come to my location to brief LTC Whitley ASAP Approved 1300hrs at 198 Brigade Re Supply pad. At 1922hrs RF 417 at 1450hrs vicinity BS907184 while moving to day location stepped on a toe popper consisting of a M-16 round. At 1850hrs requested 1 Urgent Dust Off for 1 RF Litter in vicinity BS753573 OP Frag. Had multiple frag wounds to lower part of body from a VC 60mm mortar round. Negative Vietnamese Air Force (WFS), Dust Off 55 completed at 2038hrs to Quang Ngai. At 2030hrs 1-20 Infantry Mechanical Ambushes: Alpha 2, Charlie 1 for a total of 3 out. At 2212hrs Warlord Black at 2212hrs into Box 62 and at 2245hrs engaged, camouflaged hootch at grid BS773373, 1 military aged male evaded, black on black, resulting in 1 VC/NVA KIA (was clear, to engaged). Warlord is breaking station at 2314hrs to refuel. At 2304hrs LZ Liz on practice Alert call at 2307hrs Delta Company 100% and reaction force at 2306hrs rated satisfactory end 2317hrs. Also 81 Defense Targets fired, 105 fired direct fire in their sector, sectors of fire were fired with small arms fire and Alert was terminated at 2317hrs. At 2320hrs LATE SPOT RF 115 at 1625hrs vicinity BS743640 had 1 RF step on a mine resulting in 1 RF WIA, Dust Off by Vietnamese Air Force completed at 1710hrs. At 2350hrs Warlord Black into Box 63 and out of box at 0037hrs with negative findings. Legend: 1st Platoon 81, 2nd Platoon 83, 3rd Platoon 59, 4th Platoon 88, CO-50.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company will continued to use Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 2005hrs Alpha Company has moved into their Night Defense Position Command Post and 2nd Platoon at BS733424, and 1st Platoon at BS716428.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company is at Chu Lai for their Stand Down.
Charlie Company
July 15, 1971
Charlie Company set up Patrol Base and conducts multiple patrols in their Area of Operation. At 0922hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon patrol is moving to BS656515. At 1052hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon closed vicinity BS660517. At 1547hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon patrol closed on BS660518. At 1936hrs Charlie Company Command Post and 2nd Platoon move into their Night Defense Position at BS654525 with one Mechanical Ambush out.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz and a Security Mission for the Access Road. At 2304hrs LZ Liz on practice Alert at 2307hrs Delta Company 100% and reaction force at 2306hrs rated satisfactory end 2317hrs. Also 81 Defense Targets fired, 105 fired direct fires in their sector, sectors of fire were fired with small arms fire and Alert was terminated at 2317hrs.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry.
