Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0130hrs Blue Ghost 44 on station, checking out the area of radar sighting vicinity BS771408, 0135hrs Recon by Fire on hootch with negative results and at 0145hrs Blue Ghost 44 is breaking station. At 0335hrs South OP sighted 3 to 5 personnel vicinity BS750428 moving north, alerted Bunker # 7, H & I with M-16 and M-79 personnel evaded west now at BS749430 and engaging with 81mm HE. At 0808hrs S-4 Dolphin 223 is on station for re supply. At 0810hrs Primo 5 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter. At 0921hrs Primo 5 is breaking station at this time. At 1119hrs MACV Mo Duc vicinity BS706526, National Police received 2 Chieu Hoi, their son age 1year and the man brother age 14. The man was 25-30 and his wire 24-27, they were from Duc Son vicinity BS706526, was where they were picked up. At 1600hrs Primo 4 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter. At 1605hrs S-4 Dolphin 223 is on station for re supply. At 1710hrs Primo 4 is breaking station. At 2150hrs MACV Mo Duc vicinity BS747677, has a relay Dust Off requested Urgent for 3 PSDF (1head wound, 1 stomach wound and 1 with multiple frag wounds), Dust Off is completed at 2225hrs. PSDF from Duc Hai took 1 incoming mortar round from the Hour Glass region approximately BS740685 engaged with artillery. Legend: 1st Platoon 71-76, 2nd Platoon 91-96, 3rd Platoon 41-46, 4th Platoon 01-06, CO-30.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and will continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

At 0731hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon closed at BS709425 and 1st Platoon ambush closed at BS724390. At 0755hrs Alpha Company Command Post with 3rd and 4th Platoons is in their location at BS697390 and 2nd Platoon Patrol Base is at BS709425 with the 1st Platoon in location at BS724397. At 1016hrs Alpha Company vicinity BS723387 Routine Dust Off for 1 US with secondary degree burns to left hand and leg, due to a trip flare, #S9806 completed at 1031hrs. Alpha Company will use multiple patrolling in the Area of Operation today and at 1054hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon patrol is moving out for BS694586, 2ndPlatoon patrol is moving out BS705424 and 1st Platoon is moving to BS723388. At 1340hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon patrol is moving out for BS694397, 2nd Platoon patrol is moving out for BS710412 and 1st Platoon is moving to BS728396. At 1941hrs Alpha Company Command Post with 3rd and 4th Platoons is at their Night Defense Position at BS690390 and multiple ambushes tonight.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company 2nd and 3rd Platoon with Command Post set up multiple Patrol Bases and multiple Day ambushes and multiple Night Ambushes. The 1st and 4th Platoon is on LZ Liz still working the Security Mission for LZ Liz. A 0747hrs Bravo Company Command Post and 2nd Platoon is in Patrol Base at BS646524 and 3rd Platoon in Patrol Base vicinity BS646520. At 1940hrs Bravo Company Command Post and 2nd Platoon is at BS651525 and 3rd Platoon in their location at BS648521 with multiple ambushes out.
Charlie Company
January 15, 1971
At 0836hrs Charlie Company vicinity BS699562 requests Priority Dust Off for 2 RF with minor frag wounds to the lower extremities by booby trap. The personnel were from RF 468 Company and completed at 0855hrs. At 0906hrs Charlie Company vicinity BS697563, element from RF Company 468 while moving to water location detonated a Booby trap on a trail, which is used daily. A Hand grenade was tied to a bush and a trip wire ran across the trail. RF where moving west, results 2 RF WIA with minor frag wounds, to lower extremities Dust Off completed at 0855hrs. At 1520hrs Charlie Company was responding to IOS sighting at BS685585 of 2 VC with weapons. Warlords were diverted into the area at 1405hrs. At 1415hrs Charlie Company their Gun LOH observed 1 VC evading into a suspected bunker area. They also spotted 1 female coming out of the area, and they inserted the animals at 1425hrs to check out the area. The detained the female but released her when the Kit Carson Scout said she had a good ID and was OK. The animals were extracted at 1435hrs and Warlords broke station at 1440hrs. As they were departing the area Warlord 21 reported that the animals did find what appeared to be part of an arm. There were no other indications of a body in the area.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued saturation patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0744hrs Delta Company and 3rd Platoon Patrol Base at BS712440, 2nd Platoon Patrol Base is at BS730455 and the 3rd Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 1, vicinity BS707437. At 1402hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon on patrol vicinity BS755558 spotted 1 Vietnamese kneeling on the ground, the Vietnamese spotted the patrol and began to evade to the southwest. The Patrol followed and at the location he was kneeling they found a camouflage Booby trap (can of Petna) with pressure release firing device destroyed in place. They than engaged the VC with small arms fire resulting in 1 VC KIA and 1 booby trap destroyed. The VC was wearing white on black, age 25 negative ID, pistol belt with first aid packet. At 1505hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon vicinity BS709425, brought 1 Chi Com from an 11 year old boy 1 can of C-rations. At 1800hrs 1st Platoon vicinity BS731446 brought 2 105 rounds from a 10 year old boy for 2 meals C-rations. At 1945hrs Delta Company reports their locations Command and 3rd Platoon at BS714439, 1st and 4th Platoon at BS753568, 1st Platoon ambush BS755571, 2nd Platoon BS724451 and BS728448. At 2145hrs Delta Command Post vicinity BS720440 sighted movement 800 meters to their northeast, after checking out with starlight scope, FO has a fire mission at this time in that vicinity, will check in morning.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry.
