Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0005hrs IOS we have a number of moving lights at grid BS784436, negative clearance due to the closed proximity of friendly personnel. At 0025hrs IOS we have blinking lights at grid BS766423 with negative clearance due to the close proximity of friendly personnel. At 0040hrs sighted 2 groups of 8 to 10 people in each group, we engaged with artillery at grid BS803454 and at 0110hrs Radar sighted 6 to 7 personnel at grid BS799458, we engaged with artillery. At 0220hrs Radar sighted 8 to 10 personnel at grid BS801449, we engaged with artillery. At 0810hrs 1-20 Infantry to Delta Company plan to work your operations around the Air Strike at grid BS745397. At 0835hrs Brigade, all captured enemy ammo will be sent in to the Brigade S-2 by way of the Battalion S-2. At 1020hrs Brigade Artillery LNO was given negative clearance for an Air Strike into grids BS722461 and BS745397. At 1150hrs Brigade we received a report from CPT Small of the hot spots detected on the sniffer mission run between grid lines 48 and 40, the South China Sea and the Son Tra Cau. The hot grids are BS819440 to BS822432 and BS824433. The Mission was run about 1000hrs 15 January 1970. At 1155hrs The Assistant Division Commander arrived at LZ Liz, was briefed by the Battalion Commander and the S-3 and departed LZ Liz with the Battalion Commander for Bravo Company at 1235hrs and the Battalion Commander returned at 1300hrs. At 1255hrs Brigade the Area of Operation extension which was on order from the 4th ARVN Regiment south of our Area of Operation is now in effect. At 1328hrs 1-20 Infantry we requested 4 National Police of MACV Duc Pho to work with Recon for the period of DATE/TIME 161300 to 201300 January 1970. At 1411hrs TMF String 82 detected an unknown number of personnel moving in an unknown direction for 15 minutes. We had a Fire Mission from San Juan Hill at 1420hrs 18 rounds of 105mm artillery were fired and end of mission at 1424hrs. At 1610hrs 1-20 Infantry as of 1300hrs 1-20 Infantry assumes the responsibility for the Area of Operation marked "return to 1-20 on order" per overlay effective 141200 January 1970.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0930hrs Alpha Company all our snakes have closed on LZ Liz. At 1836hrs Alpha Company the 27 snake is moving out to BS762428, BS765415 and BS758413. At 1900hrs Alpha Company all elements have moved out the 27 element to checkpoint 1 at BS762428, the 47 element to BS763437, the 06 element to BS769437 and the 28 element to BS776441. At 1915hrs Alpha Company the snakes listed at 1836hrs are in location and the 27 element is at checkpoint 2 at BS765415. At 1930hrs Alpha Company the 27 element snake is at BS758413.
Bravo Company

At 0640hrs Bravo Company reports the 05, 25 and 48 elements have closed on their semi permanent positions. At 0644hrs Bravo Company Bravo Company the 05 is at checkpoint 2 at BS776430 and 06 snake has closed on BS771461. At 0701 Bravo 47 is moving to BS788438. At 0724hrs Bravo Company 47 element will conduct a Recon in Force to (1) BS788438, (2) BS791445, (3) BS799441, (4) BS792435, and (5) 790435. At 0732hrs Bravo Company Routine Dust Off for two females with frag wound of the arm, and the wound were inflicted sometime this morning. The Bravo Company medic drove the Vietnamese females to LZ Bronco. At 0725hrs Bravo the 64 element is moving to BS783431 and at 0801hrs the 66 element has closed on BS786431 with negative finding. At 0915hrs Bravo Company at grid BS813434 a civilian said he found a body in the river. The element and the security Chief are going to check out the area. The body was recovered and it was a US and identified by the dog tags in his boots as MIA (Manchester), the body was at BS805445. At 0920hrs Bravo Company we requested the EOD team’s assistance in removing a 90mm round stuck in the weapon. At 1115hrs Bravo Company the 45 element at grid BS805445 received about 10 to 15 rounds of sniper fire from grid BS805447, with negative casualties and we are calling in Artillery. At 1300hrs Bravo Company tonight plans include our Gorilla snake with 4 PF at 1915hrs at grid BS783437, the 07 snake with 5 PF at 2000hrs at BS785446. Also Bravo 05 element clearing patrol to BS765444 at 2000hrs, and 26 snake with 5 PF at 2000hrs to BS795440 (1), 765443 (2), 775444 (3), with 15 PF at 0600hrs, the 25 element block for the 24 element at BS778419. At 0700hrs Bravo Company 48 element patrol with 5 PF are moving to 798428 (1) to 813429 (2), 799442 (3) and 792435 (4). Note: (Manchester See December 26, 1969 MIA to KIA).
Charlie Company

At 0704hrs Charlie Company the 08 and the 28 snake have closed on BS778402. At 1500hrs Charlie Company the 24 element has closed. At grid BS775401 they found 2 tunnels with their entrances partially collapsed. We did not determine the size of the tunnels. At 1922hrs Company snakes 06 at BS768406 and the 07 snake is at BS772401 and the 26 snake at BS772410.
Delta Company

At 0704hrs Delta Company reports the 05 and 45 snakes have closed on BS728426 and the 25 snake has closed on BS738414. At 0729hrs Delta Company we are moving out of our Night Defense Position. At 0810hrs 1-20 Infantry to Delta Company plan to work you operation around the air strike at grid BS745397. At 0904hrs Delta Company today’s plan include the 24, 64, and 21 in their Day Logger at BS739404, 24 will patrol to the southeast to BS745397 and sending out cloverleaf from this location. The 25 elements will be on a patrol to BS732410 and cloverleaf in the area, the 04 element will be located at BS720452 and the 44 element will be moving to BS715426. At 0910hrs at grid BS738404 we found a tunnel with an entrance of 3’ X 3’ X 25’ long. It was in a bamboo hedgerow and covered by a trap door negative finding. At 0940hrs Delta Company vicinity BS793404 we bound a dud 75mm recoilless round, which we blew it in place. It was hidden in a hedgerow. Also in the same general area we found 4 5gallon containers of polished rice, 10 bottles of insect repellant, one 5.56 metal box full of polished rice and one NVA canteen. At 1035hrs Delta Company the 04 element will be expecting re supply at grid BS728448. At 1119hrs Delta Company the 44 element will expect re supply at BS732419. At 1745hrs Delta Company all elements are moving to their Night Defense Position. At 1910hrs Delta Company the 04 element fired at 1 VC at grid BS735432, he was carrying a weapon and evaded to the southeast. At 1935hrs Delta Company the 44 and 04 elements Night Defense Position is at BS732419.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0710hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Observed Mission 3 and Unobserved Mission 1 for a total of 4 WP, 1 Illumination and 10 C/S rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0750hrs Recon blew a total of 10 Bunkers and destroyed 5 garden plots on 14 January 1970. At 1055hrs Recon Platoon our present location is at BS783507, we found a medical supply of pills and a bottle of liquid at this location. At 1142hrs Recon we received 6 to 7 rounds of sniper fire from the north of our present location of BS783507. Negative US casualties, we are calling in artillery. At 1315rhs Recon Platoon our Night Defense Position for tonight is at BS782504. At 1345hrs Warlord Lead is on station clearance was given for Recon by fire at BS8440. At 1715hrs Recon our Night Defense Position is at BS783504. At 1800hrs Recon we just received a few (6 to 7) rounds of sniper fire from our southeast. The element is calling in artillery at this time at grid BS782504. At 1855hrs Recon we received a few more sniper small arms rounds from BS790508, we are calling in Artillery. And at 1905hrs Recon we are in our Night Defense position at BS783504. At 2000hrs Recon we request Warlord to check out BS7850 and BS7953 in the morning.
