Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0010hrs Duc Pho Operations Cook Section I: TIME/DATE/GRID 130730 to 161200hrs August 1971 a 3 day operation, 169 RF Company, 252 PF Platoon and MACV Advisors, BS7538 to BS7538 to BS795350 to BS79380 a Recon in Force. Cook Section II: 150800 to 151700 August 1971 the 130 RF Group Tam Quan sub sector BS9115 to BS9315 to BS9014 to BS9314 Combat Sweep. At 0755hrs Resupply is on station call sign Upright 598 (174 Aviation). At 0715hrs 2-4 ARVN Battalion while in ambush made contact with unknown size enemy force with results 3 VC KIA, 1 AK47 CIA and 10 Chi Com grenades also were CIA at BS820306. At 0915hrs Access Road is clear and open. At 1010hrs 4-4 ARVN Recon while on a Search and Clear Mission had 1 friendly WIA from unknown type mine. The miscellaneous wounded was Dusted Off to Quang Ngai by Resupply bird at BS454504. At 1010hrs 2-4 Battalion while on Search and Clear Mission had 2 VC CIA no weapons, back hauled to Bronco from BS845290. At 1145hrs Personnel to attend small arms and generator course will report to HHC 173 Maintenance at 0730hrs, 16 August 1971. Personnel to attend leader ship course will report at Combat Center at 1200hrs 16 August 1971. At 1305hrs Hook picked up 14 packs to carry to Chu Lai. At 1340hrs LOH air time 1330hrs to 1430hrs. At 1505hrs Convoy departed LZ Liz for Chu Lai had 15 trucks and 38 packs. At 1923hrs Access road is closed. At 2115hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Field Strengths Alpha 50, Bravo 61, Delta 54, Echo 21 and HHC 9. At 2210hrs Combat Assault for Bravo Company and Recon fist LZ 1330hrs in conjunction with ARVN Combat Assault tomorrow. At 2325hrs the 75th Ranger Reports US LRRP 170500 to 252000hrs August 1971 BS6555 to BS6855 to BS680585 along south side of river to BS650375 to start. At 2342hrs Inferno Black, (B 123 Aviation) working Nighthawk Box 56 expended on grids BS681427, BS681411, BS652404, BS654412, BS664413 and BS668413 unknown results. At 0037hrs working Bronco perimeter and at 0045hrs is working LZ Liz broke station at 0051hrs. Legend: 1st Platoon 59, 2nd Platoon 56, 3rd Platoon 89, 4th Platoon 97 and CO-29.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.
Alpha Company

At 0955hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon moving to Patrol Base at BS648256 and the 2nd Platoon and Command Post will follow in about4 1 hour. At 1425hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon is at BS648526 and with Command Post and 2nd Platoon moving to second Patrol Base at BS648516. At 1700hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon and Command Post is at Patrol Base BS648526 and 2nd Platoon is located at BS647523. At 1914hrs Alpha Company moving into their Night Defense Position at BS645524 and all elements closed at 1935hrs.
Bravo Company

At 1300hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon has closed on BS644503 and at 1850hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon with Command Post is moving out for Night Defense Position closed at BS640503 at 1902hrs, Bravo Company reports field strength 61.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 1750hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon is moving out on a Security Patrol around LZ Liz. At 1915hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon closed on LZ Liz.
Delta Company
August 15, 1971
At 0745hrs Delta Company will have a LZ by 1030hrs for resupply. At 1020hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon is closed at BS643519 for LZ and resupply. At 1745hrs Delta Company reports that in their Night Defense Position, shooting naval round to find location. Also have 1st Platoon patrol out for Security at BS66487 and Delta Company field strength 54.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0650hrs Recon is in their Patrol Base at BS650505. At 1500hrs Recon found a two bunker complex, about 5 to 7 days old. Also found some dry blood in one entrance. Bunker #1 was 10’ long 5’ wide and 6’ high and # 2 was 15’ long, 3’ wide and 4’ high and will destroy bunkers at BS654504. At 1955hrs Recon is moving to BS649504. At 2104hrs Recon closed on their Night Defense Position Night Defense Position at BS649503.
