Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0650hrs MACV MO Duc the RF unit with the mission to capture the Platoon Leader who set the mine on the Access Road had negative contact. At 0950hrs TMF String 76 was activated by stationary target with no metal detected with artillery given negative clearance due to the RD Zone, a Visual Recon Team was not available. At 1130hrs Delta Company reports a D7 hit a anti personnel mine with negative casualties and immediately after ward they received 6 to 10 rounds of sniper fire. The fire came from 150 meters to the southeast with negative findings with the CEV and Charlie 32 element checking the area. At 1430hrs 1-20 Infantry request Area of Operation extension B106 be changed to Date/Time/Grid of 151700hrs to 201800hrs to the area of BS687589 to BS680586 to BS680540 to BS733543 for the purpose of Delta Company Operations. At 1905hrs 26 Engineer a total of 32 hours were worked clearing 30 acres in the area of BS706574 to BS708573 to BS709570 to BS707569 destroying 10 bunkers, 100 meters of trench, 4 antipersonnel booby trapped and 1 105 round booby trapped. There are 6 D7 operational with 2 D-7 dead line and 1 AC and 1 M548 operational. At 1940hrs Delta Company the 25 element is moving to BS724614, the 76 element is at BS720601 and the 75 element is moving to BS720596. At 2020hrs Radar on North OP spotted 5 personnel that where moving to northeast at BS763461 with negative clearance. At 2052hrs Brigade Date/Time/Grid for the PF/RF security for the elections is 271800hrs to 010800hrs September 1970. If there are any changes Brigade is to be informed. At 2330hrs Brigade the 4th Regiment requests an Area of Operation extension in the Date/Time/Grid 170600hrs to 202400hrs in the area upper left BS6751 and lower right BS7246 (LRRP #1). Also a second request from 4th (LRRP #2) in the Date/Time/Grid 180600hrs to 122400hrs in the area upper left BS7139 and lower Right BS7635 and approved by Major Bassett. At 2340hrs Blue Ghost we took 3 to 4 rounds of small arms fire from BS751375 and did not return fire because we could not pinpoint the area where the fire came from. We called in artillery on some small fires with 18 HE rounds of 105 Artillery expended at grid BS751375.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. Alpha Company

Bravo Company
August 15, 1970
Bravo Company all ambushes are in location with the 75 element at BS725602. At 2350hrs Bravo Company had a trip flare go off at BS734654. The claymore where used with negative findings. We discovered on PF awake on top of his honcho’s bunker and one PF awake on top of the assistant honcho’s Bunker, CPT Parker wants this entered in the log. One PF was dusted off when he stepped on a booby trap.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company has the Security Mission for LZ Liz and the Access Road. At 1400hrs from S-1 Joseph L Sorell of the Charlie Company at 1120hrs was outside the wire at LZ Bronco and was loading his pistol when it accidentally discharged hitting in the right ankle and left heel. He was taken to 23rd medical then 91 Evac.
Delta Company

At 0630hrs Delta Company the 70, 42 and 72 elements are in their Day Logger at BS700538. At 0654hrs Delta Company the 52 element has closed on their Day Logger at BS702548. At 0703hrs Delta Company 74 element is moving to BS698543 and the 75 element is moving to BS698550. At 1130hrs Delta Company reports a D7 hit anti personnel mine with negative casualties and immediately after ward they received 6 to 10 rounds of sniper fire. The fire came from 150 meters to the southeast with negative findings with the CEV and Charlie 32 element checking the area. At 1445hrs Delta Company we request an urgent Dust Off for 1 RF who hit a mine at BS705575 and has a foot blown off. He went into an unclear area to find some shade. The mine was underground and Dust Off was completed at 1455hrs. At 1705hrs Delta Company the 55 element is at BS693552 where they spotted 2 VC to their north at 450 meters, the 55 element pursued the VC with negative findings. At 1733hrs Delta Company the 54 element is moving to BS695546, the 56 element is moving to BS704547, the 75 elements is at checkpoint 1 and 2 and now moving to BS697533 and the 74 element is at checkpoint 1 at BS698543.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0605hrs 4.2 Mortar Platoon reports Fire Missions 3 with a total expended HE 12 and Illumination 4 rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0038hrs Recon Bunker 10 spotted campfires and movement 400 meters west of the South OP. The South OP checked it out with the starlight and spotlight with negative sightings. At 0100hrs Recon we are leaving the ambush and moving east.
