Headquarters and Headquarter Company
April 15, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at Nghia Hanh (BS616638) for OPERATION NORFOLK VICTORY. At 0115hrs 1-20 Infantry Message passed to S-3 regarding movement of units, from III MAF has been received movement will begin in 2-3 days, no change in plans for 11th Brigade (-). At 0815hrs 1-20 Infantry observed 300-500 Vietnamese women and children moving in the vicinity of BS5846. Have Warlord and Helix checking out at this time, will not move 4.2 Platoon up to LZ Blue per Colonel Henderson instructions. At 1549hrs Charlie Company at BS526658 on map were 3 units location H-10, B-21 130 man force, diagrams showed plan of attack on fortified fortress, also showed location of choppers packs-also found red flag with hammer and sickle on it. At 1815hrs 1-20 Infantry at BS560696 tunnel in to Battalion S-5 by Vietnamese Bangalore torpedo, 5 B40 rockets, 2 Chi Com Hand grenades, 1 rifle grenade launcher, 80 AK47 rounds, 50 9mm rounds and 2 AK47 magazines.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
April 15, 1968

Alpha Company continued to conduct their Search and Destroy, operations their Area of Operation. At 0900hrs Alpha Company reports their location at BS545592. At 1200hrs Alpha Company reports their location at BS545593. At 1500hrs Alpha Company reports their location at BS560596. At 1910hrs Alpha Company reports night location at BS560596 with ambushes at BS574600 and BS574605.

 

Bravo Company
April 15, 1968

Bravo Company continued sweeping with into the Valley area with negative results. At 0900hrs Bravo Company reports their location at BS542623. At 1156hrs 1-20 Infantry to Bravo Company reference report of Bravo Company at BS507604 POW camp had been abandoned 6-12 hours. Chicken and fresh fruit still present and bar wire around compound, 20 meters in diameter, 5 well constructed huts in compound Outside of compound were 3 other huts, 1 of which was either a class room or indoctrination room. Liberation Front was written on the wall, found ½ ton of rice in area and everything was destroyed. At 1200hrs Bravo Company reports their location at BS545626. At 1500hrs Bravo Company reports their location at BS543624. At 1910hrs Bravo Company reports night locations at BS567637 with ambushes at BS560627, BS563630 and BS559631. SP4 Dennis W. Medford and PFC Alan N. Putnam where attached to the 2nd Evac Hospital.

 

Charlie Company
April 15, 1968

Charlie Company continued their Search and Clear operation of the Base Camp area and continued to move out using a Recon in Force as they conducted Search and Destroy operations in the Area of Operation. At 0900hrs Alpha Company reports their location at BS524658.At 1200hrs Charlie Company reports their location at BS524657. At 1226hrs Charlie Company at BS525658 found medical equipment, 3 sand bags of documents and maps of Vietnamese with marking of possible base camps, evac, also found a sterilize and 44 rounds of 30 & 50 caliber ammo. At 1549hrs 1-20 Infantry to Charlie Company at BS525658 on map were 3 unit locations 1-10, B-21 130 man force, diagrams showed plans of attack on fortified fortress, also showed location of choppers packs-also found red flag with hammer and sickle on it. At 1910hrs Charlie Company reports their night locations BS5206658 with ambushes at BS522657, BS520656 and BS517630.

 

Delta Company
April 15, 1968

Delta Company continued Sweep and Clear operations of the area. At 0830hrs 1-20 to Delta Company break down on 1400 pounds of ammo 150 82mm rounds, 2025 rounds of 30 caliber rounds, 3941 rounds K-44 rounds, 980 9mm rounds, 15 57mm rounds and 22 Chi Com grenades all destroy and 2000 M-16 rounds evac. At 0900hrs Delta Company reports their location at BS520663. At 0915hrs Delta Company at BS523659 reports on the other 18 graves, 18 VC KIA killed by small arms and artillery appeared to be dead 1-5 days. At 0918hrs at BS526665 found 41 Bangalore torpedoes, 13 RPG-2 rockets and 1 M-2 carbine rifle. At 1100hrs Delta Company at BS523661 found 8 PRC-10 radios set also bag of medical supplies, 1 case with overlays, maps and diagrams, plus lot of stamp. Also at BS521669 found 1 Thompson Machine gun also found ammo, unknown amount. Along with 2 more PRC 10 radio, medical supplies, and 1000 pounds of rice destroy, female clothing 6 B-40 rockets, radio were destroyed as they were under rocks and could not get at them and continue the detail sweep of area. At 1200hrs Delta Company report location at BS519663. At 1588hrs Delta Company at BS522669 found 42 60mm rounds, 8 RPG-2 rockets, 20 57RR rounds, 14 Chi Com Hand grenades, 416 rounds 5.56rounds and 15 30 caliber rounds, and 2000 9mm rounds, 2,573 6.25 rounds and 8 well concealed hooch’s will destroy everything. At 1810hrs Delta Company at BS522669 found equipment in 7 huts 2 claymore mines, 1 Chi Com Hand grenade, 104 rounds of .30 caliber ammo, 3 clips for Russian sub machinegun, 100 pounds of rice and 6 packs will destroy. At 1910hrs Delta Company reports their locations BS523673 with ambushes at BS522671, BS530669, BS520667 and BS531670. At 2105hrs Delta Company 3rd Platoon heard talking, call artillery fire on suspected location at 2005hrs. SP4 Charles Mitchell was attached to the 27th Evac Hospital and PFC William H. Cox was attached to the 67th Evac Hospital.

 

Echo Company
April 15, 1968

Echo Company is located at Nghia Hanh where Battalion Forward is located and coordinates with the Battalion Rear and S-4 section established the Rear Forward location. The 4.2 Mortar Platoon continued their direction fire support for Battalion Operations. Recon reports they continued their Security Mission for Battalion at BS615640.
