Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0100hrs Brigade requests Air Strike clearance at BS745572 from 140600hrs to 141900hrs approved by PND. At 0845hrs 1-20 Infantry conversation between Major Bassett and CPT Mullens Duty Office at Brigade TOC in reference 4.2 Mission on 16 September to fire into mangrove at BS747564, request General Officer approved to fire into about grid. Engineer mine sweep of Nui Ong Do access road and Liz access road NLT 160800hrs September 70 purpose of road opening is to move 4.2 Section by vehicle to Nui Ong Do outpost. At 1055hrs 1-20 Infantry in reference to request to Brigade for 3 mine dogs, received word from MSGT Sorrick that all 3 mine dogs have been disapproved. At 1616hrs Helix 37 reports Air Strike at BS744572 completed at 1620hrs. At 1900rhs Division a convoy from Company Post C-53 173 Airborne Brigade to Da Nang on 15 September departing 173 at 0700hrs will be going 1 way only. At 2100hrs MCV Duc Pho at BS794378 Compound was hit with mortars and ground attack, VC engaged compound with m-79 and small arms, estimated 1 VC squad, fire was returned, also 81mm HE and Illumination rounds resulting in 1 VC KIA, 1 M-16 CIA with no friendly casualties. At 2130hrs TMF sighted at BS710622 8 to 10 stationary personnel with negative clearance due to proximity of friendly. At 2340hrs Brigade Area of Operation extension request from 4-21 Infantry 170001hrs to 202400hrs grid from 4-21 Area Operation Boundary BS790418 to northwest along highway 1 to BS7844 along 44 grid line to 4-21 Infantry boundary at BS813440 approved by SPB. At 2400hrs Nighthawk on station at 2250hrs, flew both boxes had negative findings, broke station at 2345hrs. Legend: 1st Platoon 53-58, 2nd 23-28, 3rd Platoon 83-88, 4th Platoon 63-68 and CO 31. Headquarters and Headquarter Company reports PFC Larry F. Osborn was evac to B 23 Medical at 10:13 with frag wounds (Left) leg and right buttocks (possible Alpha Company).
Alpha Company

At 1007 hrs Alpha Company 83 element found 4 booby traps in their Day Logger at BS680568 Petna in soda cans, with trip wire across hole. Kit Carson Scout says ARVN set them up. At 1016hrs Alpha Company requests Urgent Dust Off at BS680568 for 2 US who hit a Petna type booby trap resulting in multiple frag Wounds to legs and body. At 1845hrs Alpha Company 26 element closing on perimeter received several rounds sniper fire from BS670582 at grid BS677575, Artillery called in and swept the area with negative finding. At 2150hrs Alpha Company 54 element has 12 detainee, 85 element has 8 detainee, all picked up at BS679582, all personnel had either negative ID or invalid ID, 2 males and 18 females their average age is 40-45. At 2335hrs Alpha Company at BS681569, 31 Night Defense Position received 20 rounds of semi automatic fire from northwest approximately BS680581, the rounds went high over them, might have been fired at a Chieu Hoi bird in the Area. Alpha Company reports PFC Henry J. Krauter was evac to 91st Evac Hospital with frag wounds to both legs and Right arm and PFC Dennis Schult evac to B 23 Medical with Frag wounds to Right arm.
Bravo Company

At 1015hrs Bravo Company the 55 element going out with PF on a intelligence report in vicinity of BS73625. At 1800hrs Bravo Company 23 and the 31 element is moving out for BS740649, BS742651, to block and sweep through the area, moving to check intelligence received from one of Bravo Company interpreters.
Charlie Company

At 0645hrs Charlie Company report 85 element is moving out for BS725435 and the 56 element is moving out for BS747408. At 0710hrs Charlie Company 23 is moving out for BS732455, the 27 element closed on BS729453 and the 87 element closed on BS716434. At 0940hrs Charlie Company at BS724437 found 6 posters addressed to Vietnamese civilians, some type of propaganda they were along a trail approximately 20 meters apart will be sent in on back haul. At 1035hrs Charlie Company 23 reports they have found one 155 round, 1 M-79 round and 1 M-79 bandoleer full where purchased and are Patrolling in the Area of Operation. At 1745hrs Charlie Company 27 is moving out for BS728447. At 2010hrs Charlie Company 53 element is in their Night Defense Position at BS728415. At 2045hrs Charlie Company the 23 element in location at BS732462, 25 at BS732453 and 56 at BS722419. At 2055hrs Charlie Company 31 Night Defense Position changed to BS714432.
Delta Company

At 0600hrs Delta Company 23 element is moving out for BS754570 and the 25 element closed on BS749568. At 0727hrs Delta Company 23 checking in vicinity BS754564 engaged 1 VC with weapon engaged with small arms at 150 meters to the west swept area with negative finding. At 0740hrs Delta Company the 87 element in their Day Logger in location at BS766568, with the 55 element moving out to BS755588. At 0750hrs Delta Company 83 spotted a couple of booby traps last night while moving into Night Defense Position. This morning they checked the area found 3 booby traps, 2 soda can full of Petna, 1 60mm round in side of hole with plastic across the top pull string release destroyed all 3 booby traps in place BS761565. At 1105hrs Delta Company 53 element is moving out to area of contact to check the hootch out that the KIA were in, CIA told Military Intelligence there was a SKS behind the hootch. At 1120hrs Delta Company 53 spot 1 enemy with weapon at 250-300 meters to their northwest engage with small arms fire, enemy evaded, Helix checking out the area, 86 elements moving out for BS764566. At 1137hrs Delta Company 86 element at checkpoint 2 BS768568, spotted 3 to 4 enemy with weapons evading to the northeast, sweeping into the area with Helix overhead. At 1240hrs Delta Company closed on BS734608 has one male detainee 14 years old and he will be taken in. At 1250hrs Delta Company 85 sweep for 3 packs evaded into mangroves, evaded to the east swept through area, detaining 1 male 15 male put up a fight to get away BS759558. At 1800hrs Delta Company 23 element swept the eastern part of the area with negative findings, the western and southern parts of mangroves were wiped out. In the November part they found camouflaged hootches, gassed them, negative blood trails found trails leading into mangroves, these areas will be checked out tomorrow. At 2010hrs Delta Company 23, 31 and 63 Night Defense Position is at BS758565. At 2015hrs Delta Company 83 Night Defense Position at BS766559, the 26 element in location at BS757569, 87 at BS756558 and 53 at BS748578.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry.
