Headquarters and Headquarter Company
November 14, 1970

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0310hrs Blue Ghost is checking Radar Target at BS79944493. At 1300hrs 1-20 Infantry Dust Off Ship on LZ Liz for Class and at 1330hrs Shark 6 on LZ Liz for Class. At 1355hrs 1-20 Infantry Dolphin 430 is on station for Resupply. At 1415hrs 1-20 Infantry Dust Off leaving LZ Liz after class. At 1430hrs 76C Nui Vong, requests one urgent Dust Off at BS695600. 1 US with dislocated right knee, completed at 1434hrs injured man from the Quad 50 element. At 1627hrs 1-20 Infantry on station for Command and Control Helicopter and at 1700hrs Primo 3 is breaking station at this time. At 1908hrs Blue Ghost is on station and is proceeding to LZ Liz. At 2100hrs PF 260 sprung an ambush on an unknown # of VC vicinity BS753492 and resulting in 2 VC KIA and 1 AK 47 CIA. They do not have any bodies, due to the fact they saw 3 VC evade to the west with the 2 bodies. This is all the information they have at this time. At 2200hrs Nighthawk 41 checked area at BS789494 with negative findings. At 2300hrs Blue Ghost 41 vicinity BS726448 engaged 1 pack in a tree where they took some rounds, have 1 KIA dressed in all black and have another KIA in a tree in the same vicinity, for a total of 2 confirmed KIA, both dressed in black. At 2320hrs Nighthawk engaged 1 pack evading into a bunker at BS71924536. Called in Artillery and engaged with 25 HE rounds 105mm Artillery, Results 1 bunker destroyed. Later found a large bunker at BS724439, which looked as if it was made from concrete. ARVN Recon will check out all the areas in the morning. Legend 1st Platoon 12-18, 2nd Platoon 62-68, 3rd Platoon 82-88, 4th Platoon 32-38 and CO 44.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
November 14, 1970

At 0555hrs Alpha Company at BS768569, was holding a male detainee who escaped while a changing of the guard was taking place. Saw individual head for the near by water, engaged him with M-14 and M-60 fire. They believe he is now KIA and the element is checking out the area at this time. At 0708hrs Alpha Company found the escaped detainee, 25 meters west of their Night Defense Position, KIA killed by sniper. Reference KIA of Prisoner: Alpha Company reports Vietnamese male detainee earlier, identified as VC by the Kit Carson Scout, was cut loose by 12 year old boy, when US guard left his post a minute to relieve himself. Another guard sighted the escapee making for the water about 25 meters away. The escapee was challenged twice but he dove into the water. The company sniper filled him with a single round through the head as the escapee was swimming away. Circumstances verified by Commanding Officer. At 1717hrs Alpha Company the 62 element is moving to Night Defense Position at BS766577, 82 at BS761586 and 12 at BS768583. At 1852hrs 2nd Platoon detained 1 Vietnamese female, 15 years of age, VO Thi Kia, Kit Carson Scout questioned her and released her. Shortly after this she was spotted by villagers talking to 2 military age males wearing green, with packs and weapons, they left the area shortly before the Platoon approached. This prompted them to detain her again she also had negative ID. At 1956hrs Alpha Company 12 is in their Night Defense Position at BS763586, the 84 ambush at BS762588 and the 85 ambush in location at BS764585.

 

Bravo Company
November 14, 1970

At 0730hrs Bravo Company checked out the area where M-79 was fired from, and had negative finding. one US received frag wounds (not serious) SSGT Charles F. Weyant will be taken back on the resupply bird. Bravo Company and RF troops finished their sweep of mangroves at BS744547 the area appears to be pretty well torn up. At 1837hrs Bravo Company 3rd Platoon on way to Night Defense Position spotted I Vietnamese female, she evaded into bunker BS738574, Kit Carson Scout spoke to woman, still wouldn’t come out. We threw frag in the bunker and they couldn’t find her, checked the floor, found a hole in the floor, detained her also has no ID.

 

Charlie Company
November 14, 1970

At 0503hrs Charlie Company at BS668577, 3rd Platoon is now checking out the area where trip flare went off in their Night Defense Position. At 1140hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon at BS669577 found booby trap, 1 large can filled with Petna, with smoke grenade fuse. Looked about 3 week old and was on a trail with a trip wire was attached and blown in place. At 1825hrs Charlie Company moved to check out the area at BS689580 with negative findings, they then proceeded to BS689578, where they spotted 1 Vietnamese male dressed in green with a pack. They set up their sniper to observe with negative results, then at BS683577 their lead element engaged 1 Vietnamese male wearing a green uniform, on opposite side of the river and proceeded to his location and had negative finding. At 1939hrs Charlie Company the following element are in location 12 at BS657574, Command Post at BS677575, 62 at BS664575 and 65 at BS662578.

 

Delta Company
November 14, 1970

Delta Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Liz.

 

Echo Company
November 14, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for the 1-20 Infantry.
