Headquarters and Headquarter Company
November 14, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Cork and will continued to work with ARVN units their Area of Operations in OPERATION VERNON LAKE II. 11 Brigade TOC Aero Scouts requests for 11 Brigade to be flown on 14 November, was approved for afternoon only, Visual Recon for Vernon Lake II Area of Operation 1300hrs to 1430hrs 11Brigade forward TOC, 4-21 Infantry from 1300hrs to 1400hrs and 1-20 Infantry from 1600 to 1700hrs. At 0915hrs 6th Support Bronco reports 350 Gas Pump out, can’t refuel send choppers to LZ Dottie. LRRP Montana reports at 0725hrs at BS371475 observed at BS363478 2 VC moving northeast, 1 male with pack and 1 female with bundle, observed at 0820hrs vicinity BS363478 2 VC moving northeast wearing black PJ 1 had weapon. At 0820hrs LRRP Montana observed at BS363402 observed 6 VC wearing black PJ, with packs moving north. At 1545hrs 11 Brigade Command Post 4-3 Infantry from LZ Cork to LZ Thunder PZ 1545 and LZ 1600hrs completed. At 1552hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC at BS335595 found well used trail east side of river and at BS330590 received 2 round (50 caliber) with negative hits, Aerial Scout checking area. At 1515hrs LRRP Montana at BS371475 was extracted to LZ Cork. At 1645hrs 1-20 Infantry reports at 1615hrs Command and Control helicopter went down with mechanical problems, hooks and gun ships in area at this time. Recon Platoon being Combat Assault into the location for security hooks in route to extract no casualties was reported. Colonel Guinn was aboard.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. I Corp 2 ARVN convoys from Da Nang to Quang Ngai approximately 65 vehicles request units to be able to provide reaction forces while convoy is in their Area of Operation, Quang Ngai to Da Nang 15 November, Da Nang to Quang Ngai 18 November and Quang Ngai to Da Nang on the 19 November 1968. At 0930hrs 26 Engineer at BS913263 found VC warning sign warning vehicles, bicycles and buses not to go any further than the Bridge, pick up sign and continue their Mine Sweep.

 

Alpha Company
November 14, 1968

Alpha Company conducted Combat Sweeps in their Area of Operation, with no significant contact. At 0900hrs Alpha Company at BS453549 found 2 new hats also trails going east to west, searching area and by 1031hrs Alpha Company is now located at BS448550. At 1330hrs Alpha Company reports their location at BS448550. At 1815hrs Alpha Company has moved into their Night Defense Position at BS446551. 1LT Charles H. Davis II assumed Command of Alpha Company.

 

Bravo Company
November 14, 1968

Bravo Company continued to use Combat Sweeps operations in their Area of Operation. At 0745hrs Bravo Company at BS455449 requested Dust Off for 1 man with torn knee ligaments, Dust Off completed at 1330hrs. At 1031hrs Bravo Company reports no change in their location. At 1845hrs Bravo Company has moved into their Night Defense Position. PFC Laguria Miles was evac to 312th Evac Hospital with torn ligaments right leg at 0755hrs.

 

Charlie Company
November 14, 1968

At 1116hrs Charlie Company was extraction airlifted from BS462572 to LZ Cork and Charlie Company completed at 1245hrs. Charlie Company reports 5 PZ and 5 LZ to complete the extraction of Charlie Company they have takes over the Security Mission for LZ Cork.

 

Delta Company
November 14, 1968

At 0755hrs Delta Company at BS412507 heard 1 shot fired negative friendly in area, will investigated. At 1030hrs Delta Company reports their locations 82 at BS418569 and at BS412567 heard 2 bursts of automatic weapons fire. At 1330hrs Delta Company (-) is located at BS417572 with 32 at BS417565, 82 at BS418569 and 32 at BS414572. At 1450hrs, Delta Company found a hut complex with weapons (1 SKS SN # 659308 and 1 M-1 Carbine # 173466, medical supplies, uniforms, rice, and documents. At 1700hrs Delta Company at BS413570 also found graves with 4 bodies (NVA) with 1 SKS weapon SN# unknown at present. At 1815hrs Delta Company is in their Night Defense Position at BS417565.

 

Echo Company
November 14, 1968

Echo Company is located at LZ Cork where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Cork. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Cork where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). At 1645hrs 1-20 Infantry reports at 1615hrs Command and Control helicopter went down with mechanical problems, hooks and gun ships in area at this time. Recon Platoon being Combat Assault into the area for security of helicopter hooks in route to extract, no casualties are reports. Colonel Guinn was aboard. Recon Platoon is lift back to LZ Cork to continue their Security Mission for LZ Cork.
