Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0019hrs LZ Liz on practice Alert, 100%, Alert ended at 0044hrs. At 0050hrs On or about 1630hrs Aide De Camp asked for frequency and call sign of Nui Vong. At this time Meell called Tate, Commanding General in bound to Nui Vong, this location (accepts fault) of not pursing determination time of departure in subject discussed. Corrective action will be taken. At 0125hrs To Brigade S-3 from 1-20 Infantry S-3 Request Area of Operation Box BS3454, BS7252, BS7249, BS6449, BS6454 for Charlie Company 1-20 Infantry effective 160800-282400 May 1971. At 0137hrs Q Company Access Road, Frag wound to the wrist resulting from a friendly fire on Bunker 5, picked up at bottom of hill by jeep, Thorenton Clarence (name of injured, Toney, Theophes was individual who threw frag. At 0520hrs LZ Liz Bunker Line Inspection # 13, 14, 15, and 16: Guard in Bunker 13 asleep, all other bunkers awake, good Commo and defense. At 0810hrs To Brigade S-3 from 1-20 Infantry S-3 request Area Operation box BS6744, BS7244, BS7240 and BS6740 for period 160001 to 222400 May 1971. At 0845hrs E Troop 1-Calvary vicinity BS735618 spotted 1 VC with AK 47 and claymore mine, time 0720hrs. At 0745hrs spotted 4 VC with weapons vicinity BS738619. At 0927hrs MACV Mo Duc request Urgent Tactical Dust Off for 1 RF with multiple frag wounds to head and body from a mine, Dust Off 54 completed at 0945hrs. At 1020hrs LZ Liz Commanding General arrived at this time. At 1015hrs Primo 3 is breaking station at his time. At 1050hrs LZ Liz Commanding General visit and subjects discussed 1 Current Operations of 1-20 Infantry, 2 Problems in Area of Operation and solutions, 3. Our progress, problems and plus the solution to bolstering of defense of LZ Liz and Nui Vong. At 1530hrs 1-20 Infantry Helix 39 is on station at this time and broke station at 1620hrs.At 2006hrs 1-20 Infantry Mechanical Ambushes out: Alpha 9, Bravo 4 and Delta 4 for a total of 14 out. At 2110hrs Radar south OP called and said they have movement spotted 300 meters from our bunker line to the south vicinity BS755425, Alerted Bunker line in area South OP will engage with M-79 and at 2147hrs shot 81mm Fire Mission and end of mission at 2206hrs. Legend: 1st Platoon 58, 2nd Platoon 16, 3rd Platoon 83, 4th Platoon 42, CO-07.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. PVT Roy V Klingson was evac to the 91st Evac Hospital medic.

 

Alpha Company
May 14, 1971

Alpha Company used Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0743hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon patrol at BS710400 found 3 animal trap Snare type with vine and flexible bamboo as parts. 2 where located on a trail and 1 was in a hedgerow, also 2 sleeping position nearby. At 1041hrs Alpha Company Vietnamese Child brought to the Command Post Patrol Base 1 60mm mortar round and 1 M-79 round and all blew in place and paid 2 boxes of C Rations. The 3rd Platoon Patrol Base bought another Fuse bomb of the type found the other day, paid 1 box C Rations vicinity BS752383 and BS758372. At 1110hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon Patrol is moving to BS760370. At 1410hrs Alpha Company Command Post received 1 SKS from a Vietnamese boy age 8 (Serial Number 1279519), the SKS could be off a KIA because it has a hole in the stock, is pretty rusty but could be fixed up with a little cleaning. Alpha Company Command Post gave the boy 6 C Ration meals vicinity BS752383. At 1641hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon Patrol is at checkpoint 2 vicinity BS720400 and 1st Platoon Patrol is at checkpoint 1 at BS757389. At 1947hrs Alpha Company Command Post, 1st and 4th Platoon in their Night Defense Position at BS745386, 2nd Platoon at BS713398 and 3rd Platoon at BS755375 with 9 Mechanical Ambush out.

 

Bravo Company
May 14, 1971

At 0250hrs Bravo Company 3rd Platoon had a trip flare go off, blew a claymore, check out area with negative result direction southwest approximately 100’ from Night Defense Position at BS715510. Bravo Company used Patrol Bases and multiple Patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0633hrs Bravo Company Command Post, 2nd and 4th Platoons is moving out to Patrol Base vicinity BS686514. At 0702hrs Bravo Company, in their Patrol Base vicinity BS710506, 3rd Platoon Patrol is moving out to BS706493. At 1400hrs Bravo Company 3rd Platoon Night Defense Position at BS715510, 3rd Platoon Patrol Base is at BS715510, 3rd Platoon Q Patrol at 1600hrs vicinity BS716496. Also 2nd Platoon, Command Post and 4the Platoon in Night Defense Position at BS678517 with the 2nd Platoon and Command Post and 4th Platoon at Patrol Base at BS664508 with 2nd Platoon U patrol at 1600hrs vicinity BS662498. At 1938hrs Bravo Company locations Command Post, 2nd and 4th Platoon at BS678517 and 3rd Platoon at Night Defense Position at BS715510 with 4 Mechanical Ambush out.

 

Charlie Company
May 14, 1971

Charlie Company has the Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 1050hrs LZ Liz Command General Visit is over. Delta Company
May 14, 1971

At 0707hrs Delta Company 2nd and 1st Platoon in their Patrol Base at BS710454, and Command post and 3rd and 4th Platoons will stay in their Night Defense Position for their Patrol Base vicinity at BS697468. Delta Company continued their multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1951hrs Command Post, 3rd and 4th Platoon moving to their Night Defense Position at BS698472 and 1st and 2nd Platoon is at BS713452 with 4 Mechanical Ambush out.

 

Echo Company
May 14, 1971

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. PFC Stephen L. Foltz was attached to the 91st Evac Hospital (11B10).
