Headquarters and Headquarter Company
May 14, 1969

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry is located on LZ Liz and continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 1150hrs Warlord received AK 47 fire and took 2 hits at BS780360, broke stations and returned to DPO Hill where fire came from, many well dung in fighting positions. At 2115hrs LZ Liz reports trip flare went off south side.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0210hrs LZ Bronco Base Defense spotted 7-10 VC at the following grids, 2100hrs BS80334000, 2150hrs BS8038398, 2200hrs at BS8055391 also 2200hrs BS804405 and BS803395. At 0955 Bravo Company 19 Engineer at 915257 blown culvert above grid round road is still passable and checked and clear area and continued our mine sweep. At 1045hrs EOD Bronco Report that he believes that the rocket that hit behind the 3-1 Infantry rear area last night was a 122mm Rocket based on frag and pieces of the mortar found. At 1700hrs Bravo Company 19 Engineer received 50 to 75 rounds from 2 or 3 different positions on west side of road and returned fire with negative casualties or damage. At 2255hrs LZ Bronco radar spotted 2-3 VC NVA observed 2-3 VC/NVA at following grids BS82053915, BS82753820 and BS80154060 and fired mortars with unknown assessment.

 

Alpha Company
May 14, 1969

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz and conducts a Recon in Force to BS730460 and to BS748419. At 2115hrs Alpha Company on LZ Liz trip flare sent off on south side.

 

Bravo Company
May 14, 1969

Bravo Company will conduct 1 Platoon combat sweep to vicinity BS872290 then to BS850285 and returned to Fire Support Base Debbie. At 1930hrs Bravo Company at BS736380 observed trip flare set off by artillery.

 

Charlie Company
May 14, 1969

Charlie Company conducts saturation patrols in vicinity of their Night Defense Position. Charlie Company conducts 1 platoon Recon in Force to BS786428, BS798436, BS787443, and BS782436. Charlie Company continued their Joint operation with 1 Platoon of PF to secure Pacification Program in Hamlet vicinity BS785428.

 

Delta Company
May 14, 1969

At 0120hrs Delta Company at BS787385 received small arms fire from 400 to 500 meters south of their perimeter believed to be from carbine, negative casualties or damage. At 0205hrs Delta Company at BS787385 M-60 fire missed their perimeter by about 500 meters, came from west about 1000-2000 meters. At 0640hrs Delta Company at BS776384 found what looked like a NVA Base Camp with bunkers, also a picture of a chopper pointing out most vulnerable points to put ground fire. Delta Company conducts Recon. in Force with tracks to vicinity BS730460 then a Company size Recon in Force to BS780436. At 0935hrs Delta Company at BS782383 60mm Mortars RPG and small arms fire from BS778374 and BS785375 also Night Defense Position received small arms fire from 3-5 position guns in area with negative casualties or damage. At 1110hrs Delta Company requested a Dust Off for 6 heat casualties Dust Off is completed at 1120hrs. Delta Company reports SP4 William Shorter was evac to 312 Evac Hospital and SP4 RONALD WALTER FEROUGE LISTED AS KHA Died of Wounds. (See May 13, 1969)

 

Echo Company
May 14, 1969

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon will conduct saturation patrolling in vicinity of OP’s.
