Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0700hrs 4-4 ARVN vicinity 620554 requested Urgent Dust Off for 3 personnel, are receiving small arms and B-40 rockets (also received the same last night), Gun ships are being scrambled. Legend: 1st Platoon 33, 2nd Platoon 46, 3rd Platoon 22, 4th Platoon 09, CO-42.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz.

 

Bravo Company
March 14, 1971

Bravo Company continued to set up Patrol Bases and use multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0920hrs Bravo Company2nd Platoon Patrol Base at BS674499, 3rd Platoon Patrol Base is at BS671475. At 0950hrs Bravo Company Command Post with 1st and 4 Platoons is at BS702487. At 2030hrs Bravo Company Command Post 1st and 4th Platoon BS702487, 2nd Platoon BS674499, 3rd Platoon BS673477.

 

Charlie Company
March 14, 1971

At 0715hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon is moving to BS652574. At 0755hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon vicinity BS673550, while attempting to retrieve their own Mechanical Ambush accidentally detonated the mechanical ambush, and it appears to have been tamper with results 2 US WIA, Dust Off completed at 0808hrs, name Sokoloski, Kelly. At 0951hrs Charlie Company Command Post and 3rd Platoon is at 670555, 1st Platoon is at BS675534, and 2nd Platoon is at BS652574 and BS655575. At 1330hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon vicinity BS655555, while on patrol found a well used trail, leading out of the mountains, vicinity BS655556, to a village vicinity grid BS657563, to a village vicinity grid BS657563. They followed the trail south vicinity grid BS655555, where they found an observation tower 10’ high, 1 NVA canteen, and 2 empty rice baskets. They destroyed the tower, canteen and 2 rice baskets. The tower provided excellent observation of OP Wood stock. At 1630hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon vicinity BS658552, Charlie Company 2nd Platoon vicinity BS658552 continuing their search they found 36 AK 47 rounds and a flashlight and some cooking utensils. At 1925hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon ambush is moving to BS653574 and 3rd Platoon ambush is moving to BS660554. At 1930hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon in Night Defense Position at BS667534, 1st Platoon ambush moving out for BS664529. At 1952hrs Charlie Company Command Post and 3rd Platoon in Night Defense Position at BS670555. Charlie Company reports SP4 Raymond Sokoloski and PFC Ellis W. Kelly where evac to the 91st Evac Hospital.

 

Delta Company
March 14, 1971

Delta Company is using multiple patrolling with Patrol Base in their Area of Operation. At 0745hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon in location vicinity BS636517 and BS646517. At 0925hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon is Patrol Base BS646555 and 1st Platoon in Patrol at BS646498. At 1025hrs Delta Company Command Post, 1st and 4th Platoons changed to BS639489. At 1301hrs Delta Company 3rd platoon vicinity BS648495 on patrol found 1 booby trap. It was canister from a 105 Illumination round and it was packed with Petna. Trip wire was in a tall grass on the side of the hill, it was blown in place. At 1915hrs Delta Command Post 1st and 4th Platoon BS639488, 2nd platoon BS642515 and 3rd platoon at BS647493.

 

Echo Company
March 14, 1971

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 1340hrs Recon Platoon is moving out for BS745421 and closed on location at 1405hrs. At 1547hrs Recon vicinity BS736434 on patrol sighted 1 male black shorts and a black shirt. When detained he claimed he was 10 years old, then 12 and then 17. They also detained 1 female wearing green and black age 21 with negative ID. They had not seen her in the area before and her hands were not callused. At 1645hrs Recon Little John Patrol is at checkpoint #3 at BS735442. At 1815hrs Recon has closed on LZ Liz. At 1815hrs Recon vicinity BS737427 at 1700hrs engaged 1 military age male dressed in black, with pack carrying a M-16 at a distance of 175 to 200 meters. The enemy evaded to the northeast. Recon pursued with negative findings. Then at 1730hrs vicinity BS750443, Recon engaged 1 military age male wearing all green with rucksack and pistol belt at a distance of 150 meters. They pursued a small blood trail north but lost it in a rice paddy. They continued with negative findings. At 2050hrs 4.2 Platoon at OP Wink vicinity BS699562 bought 1 57mm recoilless round and 1 81mm round from 2 Vietnamese boys 11 to 12 years old. Paid 2 cans of C rations and rounds were blown in place. SGT Stephen W. Powell (11F40) was attached to the 91st Evac Hospital (See Headquarters Headquarter Company March 13, 1971).
