Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry is located at LZ Liz and continued their Mission and working with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 1930hrs LZ Liz received 3 rounds of 82mm mortar, they saw some VC/NVA running from coordinates BS734425 and they believe this is the area where the rounds came from, called Artillery with unknown results, negative casualties or damage. Intelligence Report LZ Liz to have rocket and mortar attack, the bridge at Son Tra Khuc River from 13-21 July and NVA force of 300 men from 2nd Regiment will ground assault LZ Liz. At 2345hrs OP1 reported that in the past 3 to 4 days they have spotted a great amount of movement coming out of the horseshoe area moving east. Individual on OP stated that this was the most movement he had ever observed and that in the eight months he has been here that the total amount he has observed has not equaled what he has seen in the past few days.
Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion. At 0115hrs LZ Bronco received approximately 6-7 rounds of RPG near bunker 28 with negative casualties or damage, enemy grid BS8123378. At 0145hrs Delta Company 19 Engineer at BS857322 received 20-75 rounds automatic weapons fire with no casualties or damage. At 0445hrs LZ Bronco SI-5 picked up 5 persons at BS848401, engaged with 4 rounds 4.2 and 12 rounds of Artillery 105mm VT rounds. At 0550hrs LZ Bronco SI-5 observed 3 person’s at BS739357 engaged target with 1 round Artillery 105mm. At 1715hrs US Convoy at BS793410 hit a 40 pound pressure type mine with results 2 US KIA, 3 US WIA (E) with 3/4 ton truck a combat loss to the 19 Engineer. At 1750hrs Charlie Company 19 Engineer at BS915240 received heavy small arms fire with negative casualties or damage. The 137 LE 19 Engineer reports PFC CHARLES WAYNE HUGHES AND PFC LEONARD MICHAEL GOMOLIOKE LISTED AS KIA.
Alpha Company

At 0540hrs Alpha Company the 83 element closed on Night Defense Position and at 0830hrs Alpha Company moving at this time. At 1105hrs the 2 patrols where sent out the 13 element moving east, the 14 element moving west and at 1155hrs the 13 patrol at BS743433 and the 14 patrol was at BS736433. At 1845hrs we have 1 female VCS and she is believed to be spying on Alpha Company movements. She was about 3 klicks from where she lived, and we will hold her until morning and the Command and Control helicopter will pick her up. Alpha Company requests Urgent Dust Off for 1 US (David R. Zeroth) with accidental gunshot wound in right foot. ETA 15 minutes completed at 1900hrs at grid BS7444. At 1935hrs Alpha Company moved into their Night Defense Position at BS743443. At 2025hrs the 13 snake moving out and the 1 female VCS we picked up earlier admits being in Woman’s auxiliary VC force.
Bravo Company

Charlie Company

Charlie Company is at their Day Logger at 0800hrs vicinity of grid BS825367. At 1015hrs the 63 element is moving out on their Recon in Force to BS835360. At 2015hrs Charlie Company is moving into their Night Defense Position at BS827371 with the 13 and the 63 snakes in position at 2100hrs.
Delta Company

Look for a Combat Assault. At 0805hrs Delta Company moved to Day logger at BS805488 and our 83 element will be going on a Recon in Force and the 12 element will be going on a Recon in Force. At 2017hrs Delta Company moved to their Night Defense Position at BS815475 and the 14 snake moving out.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At 1030hrs the Security Platoon at LZ Goldie calls in resupply items: (1) 1 speaker box for PRC-25 (2) clean clothes, (3) new KAC code and (4) would like the rucksack that we sent in yesterday returned to us, it is with Wright of Delta Company, also (5) we will be sending back 5 persons whom has to sign a statement on an accident. List was turn over to Echo Company. At 0840hrs Recon Platoon reports that they are moving out of LZ Liz at this time. At 0925hrs Recon Platoon report their location at BS741423 at check point one and by 1025hrs Recon located at BS725432. At 1052hrs Recon Platoon reports a water buffalo with a broken leg charged one of our men and he had to shot it, at grid BS725428. At 12150hrs Recon Platoon report their location at BS725438 as their Day Logger Position. At 1440hrs Recon Platoon leaving for check point 3 and at BS731442 and detained 2 male VCS, 1 VCS approximately 23 years old and negative ID, other VCS approximately 15 with ID, looked over 15. Both belonged to Farmers Association, will send them to Military Intelligence this evening. At 1645hrs Recon Platoon returned to LZ Liz and should close in 20 minutes. At 1800hrs Intelligence: Civilian spotted 300 VC/NVA at BS692410 possible to hit LZ Liz from now to 2000hrs.
