Headquarters and Headquarter Company
August 14, 1969

Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and continued their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations. LZ Liz About half way up access road 1-20 Infantry jeep hit unknown type mine. Blowing Jeep 20 metes off Access road, the hole in road 6’ by 6’, the 26 Engineers checking area for any type of ID, Jeep was a total loss. One US KIA and unidentified at this time and possible the RTO working in Battalion TOC assigned to Echo Company. At 1125hrs Helix 34 we have put in the Air Strike at grid BS722460, all ordnance was on target and there were 3 sustained fires. At 1320hrs Command and Control Helicopter at BS758396 spotted about 50 Vietnamese on a riverbank and about 1 kick west of Highway 1 and 1 kick north of Duc Pho. These Vietnamese had sticks and 3 teams of water buffaloes; they were just standing around doing nothing. At 1515hrs LZ Liz On access road convoy was ambushed hit a command detonated mine, received automatic weapons fire from Ville 23 Military Police and Charlie Battery 1-82 Artillery 5 ton truck loaded with ammo was hit by command detonated mine. Bravo Company 51 and 90 elements are moving out to area of contact. 51 Element received AK-47 fire from BS765430. Charlie Battery results of the mine, one 5 ton truck total lost 1 US KIA and 1 US WIA. One WIA will be Dust Off. At 1650hrs LZ Liz request a priority Dust Off, 1 US with 1st and 2nd degree burns and has ahead injury, complete at 1705hrs. At 1805hrs Headquarters Company and E Troop 1 Cav. Report at BS777432- BS782402 detained 13 Vietnamese at village where LZ Liz received fire and will evac to LZ Bronco. At 2012hrs LZ Liz Bunker 18 reports 3 rounds of small arms fire from outside the perimeter, called in 81mm fire reports negative casualties. 1-20 Infantry reports SP4 VINCENT LLOYD SHEPERSKY listed as KIA (11B10) from Echo Company in Jeep. Charlie Battery 1-82 Artillery reports SP4 EARL WAYNE McDOWELL IS LISTED AS KIA who was KIA at 1650hrs in the 5 Ton.

Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion.

 

Alpha Company
August 14, 1969

At 0805hrs Alpha Company 91 element is moving out on to days Patrol. At 1300hrs Alpha Company we have found another naval artillery round, we would like to have someone come to our location and take care of rounds we found yesterday and today. The round found today has snake coming from it, but there was a fire in this area recently so that might be the reason for the smoke.

 

Bravo Company
August 14, 1969

Bravo Company has the Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 1515hrs Bravo 51 and 90 elements are moving out, received automatic weapons fire from Ville. Then 51 element received AK 47 weapons fire from BS765430 and Charlie Battery 82nd Artillery as results of the mine, one (5 Ton Truck) Check to see if jeep total loss, 1 US KIA and US WIA will be dusted Off completed at 1740hrs.

 

Charlie Company
August 14, 1969

Charlie Company is at their Day Logger at 0800hrs vicinity of grid BS825367. At 1015hrs the 63 element is moving out on their Recon in Force to BS835360. At 2015hrs Charlie Company is moving into their Night Defense Position at BS827371 with the 13 and the 63 snakes in position at 2100hrs.

 

Delta Company
August 14, 1969

At 0505hrs Delta Company 51 element at BS718442 and the 51 element is moving to Day Logger, 51 element re-swept the last night contact are, we have a total of 3 NVA dressed in NVA green and khaki uniforms with steel pots, also 2 AK-47- 1967 serial numbers AM0800 and 10084045. Delta Company sends PFC Crespo in with large blister on right foot, medic Doctor but needs more attention. Delta Company moved into their Night Defense Position with 21, 92 snake getting into position.

 

Echo Company
August 14, 1969

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0645hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Defense Targets 2, Observed Mission 1 with total expend 34 HE, 6 WP. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon is in Chu Lai for Stand Down. SP4 VINCENT LLOYD SHEPERSKY listed as KIA (11B10) was assigned to Echo Company worked in Battalion TOC as RTO.
