Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0735hrs 1-20 Infantry LZ Liz Access Road is open. At 0830hrs 1-20 Infantry Primo 4 is on station at this time and breaks station at 1005hrs. At 1305hrs 1-20 Infantry Dolphin 14 is on station for re supply. At 1941hrs Saber 49 is on station for Box 63, took automatic and small arms fire from 2 locations, vicinity BS785525, broke station at 2026hrs. At 1948hrs Helix 35 is on station for Air Strike at BS682432, Air Strike is completed at 2030hrs. At 2043hrs Saber 49 is on station for Box 62 took fire from BS7041 Grid Square and engaged area, broke station at 2120hrs due to mechanical difficulties. At 2128hrs TMF Fire Mission at 2108hrs String 313, Target A, unknown number of stationary personnel, negative metal confirmation and engaged at 2105hrs with 12 HE rounds of 4.2 Mortar. At 2130hrs TMF Fire Mission at 2108hrs Sting 310 Target A, have 2 to 3 personnel moving west to east at 3 miles per hour, negative metal confirmation and engaged at 2109hrs 10 HE rounds 4.2mm Mortars. At 2335hrs Saber 44 is on station to check out radar sighting of 20 personnel at BS774471, saw 2 well build bunkers at BS774470 and engaged with negative findings broke station at 0002hrs. At 2343hrs Q Company Sniper Out Post in location along LZ Liz Access Road. Legend: 1st Platoon 39, 2nd Platoon 74, 3rd Platoon 31, 4th Platoon 57, CO-52.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
April 14, 1971
At 0930hrs Alpha Company 1st and 2nd Platoon moving to BS613509 and at 0950hrs Command Post and 4th Platoon to BS613509. At 1010hrs Alpha Company 1st and 2nd Platoons at checkpoint 1, in vicinity BS614524. At 1020hrs Alpha Company while moving through the area of BS614525 found 1 Chi Com grenade in a tree 8’ high above ground, they avoided the area, believing the grenade was possibly daisy chained. A Fire mission was be called when the element are clear of the area. At 1115hrs Alpha Company 1st and 2nd Platoons while moving through the area of BS615518, found 2 elevated .51 Cal Pits with adjoining trenches, from 1 pit was a 1 man underground sleeping position with a camouflaged entrance, it was 5’ X 2’ 3’. All were 1 to 2 weeks old, and all destroyed. Also found 12 sleeping positions around the pits. At 1245hrs Alpha Company Command Post and 4th Platoon is at checkpoint 1 at BS634514. At 1245hrs Alpha Company while on patrol found booby trap 105mm rounds with trip wire and electrical firing device with batteries and wire, they were located in an open area and blew in place. At 1401hrs Alpha Company Command Post and 4th Platoon is at Patrol Base and Night Defense Position at BS628514. At 1720hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon patrol cancelled, will be tomorrow, 1st and 2nd Platoon is moving to Night Defense Position at BS613507. At 1830hrs Alpha Company spotted 6 VC with packs and with weapons, received negative clearance to fire on them Code 1. At 1901hrs Alpha Company reports night locations 1st and 2nd Platoon in location BS610509 with Command Post with 4th Platoon in location BS628514.
Bravo Company

Charlie Company

Charlie Company is using some patrolling and multiple Day Ambushes in their Area of Operation today. At 0835hrs Charlie Company all ambushes have closed at this time 3rd Platoon ambush at BS734420, 1st Platoon ambush at BS725417 and 3rd Platoon element is at BS734420 1st squad. At 1300hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon patrol is moving to BS745422. At 1615hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon is moving to Night Defense Position at BS744415. At 1947hrs Charlie Company all elements 1st and 4th Platoon plus the Command Post at BS737425, 3rd Platoon at BS744415, 1st Platoon ambush at BS741421, 2nd Platoon at BS729437, 2nd 1st squad ambush at BS731432, 2nd squad ambush at BS734436.
Delta Company

Delta Company set up 2 Patrol Bases and started to saturation patrolling. At 0850hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon patrol is at their checkpoint 1, vicinity BS647524. At 0925hrs Delta Company Command Post, 4th and 2nd Platoons is now in their Patrol Base at BS651524. At 1150hrs Delta Company 1st and 3rd platoon found in NVA base camp that had been destroyed at least 4 bunkers, a large number of hooch’s, 1 60mm rounds and 82mm tube destroyed. At 1320hrs moving along a trail East to West 2nd platoon found a large number of recent sandal tracks and 15 to 20 hasty sleeping positions made of matted Shaw. The 2nd Platoon Further down the trail a blood trail, remains of a bloody NVA shirt, waved bamboo basket, assorted bamboo work tools, 3 food cans 2-3 d8ays old. At 1405hrs Delta Company 2nd platoon vicinity BS641523 found a cave, no signs of recent use, which might be used for a stopover. Cave was 10’ wide, 5’ height and 40’ long, also had a water source (natural) with a make shift bath tub and bamboo beds. At 1500hrs Delta Company 1st and 3rd platoon at base camp at BS634526 consisting of 25 major bunkers, 50 fighting positions, 10-15 hooch’s with 3-5 man tunnels leading from or near the hooch. Also found 7 bodies, 2 in a grave approximately 1 to 2 weeks old, 3 in a cave in bunker, 2 in a fresh grave which was 2-4 days old. Ages ranged from 20-30 years old. One was female wearing all green and is believed to be an NVA nurse all others were wearing either back or green. Causes of death these was multiple frag wounds. Upon search of base camp the following items where found; 1 Chi Com grenade, 2 portable latrines, 1 can of sanitary powder (lime), 1 homemade VC grenade, numerous eating utensils, 1 60mm round, 1 destroyed 82mm mortar tube Serial # 1001-1569472. Also 1 binocular case, 1 pick, 6-38rounds, 1NVA mess hit, 10 medicine battles of unknown type, 20 pounds of salt, 1 NVA rucksack, 2 VC rucksack, 20 loose AK-47 rounds, 1 M-16 magazine with rounds, AK-47 magazine with rounds. Also some documents and a great number of letters which will be hauled back to LZ Liz. At 1501hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon has closed on BS651524. At 1910hrs Delta Company locations Command Post 2nd and 4th Platoons at BS647525, 1st and 3rd Platoons heard movement around perimeter, called in artillery. At 2125hrs Delta Company 1st and 3rd Platoons heard movement around perimeter. Are calling in a Fire Mission and have Illumination standing by if necessary, they are now firing 2 road runners into the area.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission senor team at OP Wink.
