Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0030hrs LZ Liz Bunker Line inspection: #14, 15, 16 and 17 were all OK. At 0130hrs Saber 48 is on station to work NH Box 66 and broke station at 0153hrs with negative findings. At 0815hrs LZ Liz Access Road is clear. At 1300hrs 1-20 Infantry Dolphin 13 is on station at this time. At 1415hrs 4-4 ARVN reports on 12 May 1971 contact vicinity BS623490 with 18 KIA, CIA 3 AK 47 and 2 AK54. At 1735hrs Dolphin 13 broke station at his time. At 2037hrs 1-20 Infantry Mechanical Ambushes out: Alpha 9, Bravo 4 and Delta 3 for a total of 16 out. At 2145hrs LZ Liz Bunker Line inspected bunkers # 6, 7, 8, and 9. All had Como, personnel were knowledgeable of claymores and foogas positions, Bunker 8 an 9 did not know password, corrected by SFC Wright. Legend: 1st Platoon 58, 2nd Platoon 16, 3rd Platoon 83, 4th Platoon 42, CO-07.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company used Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0745hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon is moving to their Patrol Base at BS754373. At 1020hrs Alpha Company Command Post bought 2 bouncing betty rounds, 1 M-79 HE rounds, 3 Fuses, 2 155 HE rounds from 3 Vietnamese Children 10-14 (males) paid 2 boxes C Rations and some soap and all weapons vicinity BS744385 where blown in place. At 1043hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon Patrol closed on BS756372. At 1105hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon found 1 Booby trap, a can of Petna with fish line as a trip-wire (1 foot off ground), was located on a trail and was blown in place. At 2010hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon in Night Defense Position at BS755370, Command Post, 1st and 4th Platoon at BS754385 and 2nd Platoon at BS724397 with 9 Mechanical Attack out.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company used Patrol Bases and multiple Patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0648hrs Bravo Company Command Post, 2nd and 4 Platoons are in their Patrol Base at BS682502 with 3rd Platoon at Patrol Base at BS701515. At 1110hrs Bravo Company 2nd Platoon patrol vicinity BS687517 has 6 to 8 VC pinned down in a wood line, 3rd Platoon moving up as a blocking force. Also calling in a Fire Mission at 1119hrs, and requested gun ships at 1114hrs Helix 36 on Station. At 1121hrs Shark 3 on Station at 1128hrs with Artillery Area Forward observer is on station at 1132hrs. At 1215hrs an element from MACV from OP Pax moving out, to act as blocking force and Helix broke station at 1250hrs. Delta Company 2nd Platoon moving into area of contact to sweep at 1231hrs. At 1341hrs the 2nd Platoon while sweeping area found 1 pair Ho Chi Minh sandals with a bunker complex, consisting of 15 bankers 4’ X 6’ with 1-2’ of overhead cover. Approximately 2-3 people could fit in each bunker, and the bunkers were used within 2-3 days. Also found were 25-30 foxholes recently used and well camouflaged. Gun ship spotted 2 VC wearing black on black and white on brown to into 1 bunker, result gun ships destroyed but had negative finding so far still sweeping. At 1520hrs the 2nd Platoon with negative further finding returned to their patrol base. At 1950hrs Bravo Company Command Post, 2nd Platoon and 4th Platoon moving to Night Defense Position at BS690515 and 3rd Platoon location at BS710513 with 4 Mechanical Ambush out.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company has the Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0030hrs Bunker line inspection LZ Liz Bunkers #14, 15, 16, and 17 were rated satisfactory and at 0815hrs LZ Liz access road is clear.
Delta Company
May 13, 1971
At 0545hrs Delta Company Command Post had suspected enemy movement approximately 75 meters to the north northwest of their Night Defense Position engaged area with claymores and small arms fire, will check at 1st Light, negative finding vicinity BS704451. At 0643hrs Delta Company Command Post, 3rd and 4th Platoons moving to Patrol Base at BS698457. The 3rd Platoon is moving to BS701515. At 1655hrs Delta Company 3rd and 4th Platoons is moving out to BS694464. Delta Company continued their multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 2001hrs Delta Company 3rd Platoon, Command Post and 4th Platoon in their Night Defense Position at BS697468 and 1st and 2nd Platoon in their Night Defense Position at BS710457 with 3 Mechanical Ambush out.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry.
