Headquarters and Headquarter Company
May 13, 1969

Forward Area 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located on LZ Liz, and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0435hrs LZ Liz received 2 82mm round from about 600 meters due west of Liz one of the rounds was a CS round, negative casualties. At 0520hrs LZ Liz at BS745413 received 6-7 rounds, 2 where HE, 1 CS and the others were Duds. South OP spotted flashes at BS745413 called in 81mm, 4.2 mortars, Quad 50 caliber, counter fire, results LZ Liz negative casualties or damage. At 1500hrs 1-20 Infantry received a Report on 63rd Trans Ambush at BS893272 at 1727hrs on 12 May, witness say positively that some of the ambushes were dressed in ARVN uniforms, from Major White.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0130hrs LZ Bronco reports E Sector 1 round RPG or mortar hit Delta Company 1-20th Infantry results 2 US WIA, extent of injuries unknown at this time. At 0245hrs LZ Bronco from 1 or 2 positions on west side of road return fire and called artillery and continued sweep. Base Defense fired 10 rounds 81mm mortar at BS835386 with 1 secondary explosion at BS835386, also Artillery 105mm from LZ Debbie with unknown results. At 1020hrs Charlie Company19 Engineer at BS912166 Mine Sweep returning to Command Post received 20 rounds of automatic weapons fire and continued to Command Post. At 1800hrs LZ Bronco Defense spot 2 VC/NVA at BS827350 fired artillery with unknown results. At 1910hrs LZ Bronco Base Defense received 5 rockets, enemy location BS795319. At 2215hrs LZ Bronco Base defense spotted 7-10 VC NVA at BS8033, BS8038, and BS8938 fired 6 rounds of 81 mortars on each grid.

 

Alpha Company
May 13, 1969

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz and with 1 Platoon conducts a Recon in Force to BS705421, BS747464, and BS730460.

 

Bravo Company
May 13, 1969

Bravo Company conducts 1 platoon Recon in Force to vicinity BS764409 and BS759405, BS744413, BS740708, and BS759396. At 1545hrs at BS765400 Bravo Company received mortar rounds results in 7 US WIA (E). At 1715hrs Bravo Company at BS764400hrs received RPG and small arms fire and returned area and found 4 NVA KIA with uniform and steel pots. SP4 Ronald Smith, SP4 Alan Houghton, Raymond DeMasse, SP John Robinson and PFC Stephen Hann were evac.

Charlie Company
May 13, 1969

Charlie Company saturation Patrolling vicinity of their Night Defense Position until 1741hrs then conduct air moved to Delta Company Night Defense Position at 1750hrs. Charlie Company conducts 1 Platoon Recon in Force to vicinity BS776408 and continued to work with 1 PF Platoon and the Pacification Program. At 1150hrs at BS776380 engaged 3 VC evaded and results in 3 VC KIA. At 1500hrs Charlie Company at BS774372 has 1 US WHA (M) from E Troop, received light frag wounds in leg, received small arms fire and 2 RPG, from west. At 1700hrs Charlie Company received 2 60mm mortar rounds at their Night Defense position at BS776380 Charlie Company has 1 US WIA (E) and 2 US WIA (M). Charlie Company reports PFC Jan Gregg where evac to the 27th Surgical Hospital.

 

Delta Company
May 13, 1969

At 0130hrs Bronco Base Defense received 1 round RPG or Mortar hit Delta Company orderly room, 2 US WHA, extent of injuries unknown at this time. At 0130hrs Delta Company at BS788425 received 15 to 20 rounds of fire with negative casualties. At 1300hrs Delta Company at BS788440 pick up 1 VCS male 22, no ID, will evac to Liz then Bronco. Delta Company continued their operation in the Pacification Area until 1726hrs then conduct air move to Charlie Company area and completed it at 1758hrs and then continued to use saturation patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1805hrs Delta Company at BS768365 received 2 60mm mortars and have 4 US WHA Dust Off was completed by Command and Control Helicopter. Delta Company reports PSGT Samuel B. Harps evac to 27th Surgical Hospital and SP4 Victor Cruz where evac to 91st Evac Hospital and SP4 RONALD WALTER FEROUGE (SEE MAY 14, 1969) IS LISTED AS KIA (DIED OF WOUNDS).

 

Echo Company
May 13, 1969

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon conducted a Recon in Force and detained 1 VCS at BS750445 and return to LZ Liz.
