Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 1325hrs S-4 Minuteman 902 is on station for re supply. At 1245hrs 4 ARVN 130600 1-4 ARVN vicinity BS753551 ambushed 2 VC, resulting in 2 VC KIA, 1 AK-47 CIA, 130200 1-4 ARVN 753551 searching and clearing area of above contact engaged 1 VC resulting in 1 VC KIA, 3 females CIA, 1 45 caliber pistol CIA. At 131050 4 ARVN Recon vicinity BS764600 made contact with 5 VC resulting in 5 KIA, 1 M-2 carbine, 15 Chi Com grenade CIA, 120230 4 ARVN Recon vicinity BS736610 had 2 VC KIA and 7 Chi Com grenades CIA. At 1530hrs Hornet 25 vicinity BS638526 took 4 rounds of small arms fire with negative hits or damage. Gun Ships expended on the area, air speed and altitude at time of fire unknown. AMC Ship is on station. At 1719hrs 1-20 Infantry Combat Assault of Delta Company from LZ Dragon. 1. 2nd Platoon 3 ships 1436hrs LZ BS645515, 2. 1st Platoon 5 ships 1503hrs LZ BS636489, 3. The Command Post with 4th Platoon 1515hrs into LZ BS636489. 4. 3rd Platoon 4 ships 1610hrs LZ BS648488 and Bravo 5. 3rd Platoon 5 ships 1630hrs LZ BS667474, 6. 2nd Platoon 5 ships 1655hrs LZ BS671480. At 1940hrs 4-4 ARVN, while inserting 1 Company of 4-4 ARVN gun ships took fire from .51 caliber and small arms fire. 1 gun ship gunner was hit and Dusted Off to Chu Lai. 2nd Ship shot down at BS626553 with pilot hit in head and gunner in shoulder. LOH also shot down at same grid. The 51 caliber site, were engaged by 2 Air Force Phantoms and the downed ships were secured by 4-4 ARVN units. All crews lifted out to Chu Lai. At 1630hrs ARVN securing ships took heavy mortar fire, ships have been lifted out to Chu Lai.4-4 Recon reports received a total of over 100 rounds of 82mm rounds and at 2030hrs moving into the contact area. At 2045hrs Sabre 40 is on station to check out radar sighting vicinity BS712555 of 10 personnel, had negative findings and broke station at 2108hrs. At 2340hrs North OP requests Urgent Dust Off for 1 US with severe stomach pain can’t walk, doubled over and vomiting. Believe to be appendicitis Stephen Powell completed at 0020hrs. Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company at 1050hrs closed on LZ Liz. Alpha Company took over the Security Mission for LZ Liz.
Bravo Company
March 13, 1971
Combat Assault by Delta and Bravo Companies, Bravo Company 3rd Platoon LZ Dragon at 1610hrs, Bravo Company 3rd Platoon BS667474 at 1630hrs, Bravo Company 2nd Platoon 2nd Platoon LZ Dragon at 1645hrs. Bravo Company 3rd Platoon vicinity BS661477 requested Priority Dust Off for 1 US with temp of 104 completed at 1740hrs. At 1952hrs Bravo Company Command Post Night Defense Position at BS693486, 3rd Platoon at BS668488, 2nd Platoon BS678473. At 2101hrs Bravo Company Late Spot Bravo Company 3rd Platoon found 2 booby traps fairly closed together a can of Petna with trip wire across the trail vicinity BS673494. Both booby traps were about 100 meters apart Kit Carson Scout found a sign, which said no VC move into area because it is booby trap.
Charlie Company

At 1235hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon on patrol vicinity BS665564 found 55 gal empty drums, 2 ceramic pots and 20 pounds of unpolished rice, 70 gal drum full of new unpolished rice everything was destroyed in place. At 1430hrs 3rd Platoon patrol closed vicinity BS673553 and at 1500hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon patrol closed vicinity BS664563. At 1600hrs 3rd Platoon patrol closed BS673553 and 1st Platoon Patrol is moving out to BS665537. At 1820hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon ambush at BS663558, BS663562 and 3rd Platoon ambush at BS673554. At 2000hrs Charlie Company Command Post, 3rd, 4th Platoon at BS669555, 1st Platoon at BS667535, BS665531, 2nd Platoon BS663558, BS663562, and 3rd Platoon BS668555, BS673554.
Delta Company

At 0731hrs Delta Company closed on highway vicinity BS765466 and then closed on LZ Dragon and sent out patrols. At 1719hrs Delta Company conducts a Combat Assault from LZ Dragon 1st LZ at 1429hrs and last LZ is at 1610hrs. At 1810hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon patrol closed BS641512. At 1850hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 1 at BS647517. At 1931hrs Delta Company vicinity BS644517 2nd Platoon found trails, which appeared to had been well used recently by 10-15 personnel. At 2040hrs Delta Company reports their locations Command Post 1st and 4th platoon BS636489, 2nd platoon BS646515, 3rd platoon BS646515, 3rd platoon ambushes BS649514, BS648499.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry.
