Headquarters and Headquarter Company
June 13, 1968

Forward Area 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Ross for Operation WHEELER-WALLOWA and are OPCON to the 196th Light Infantry Brigade. Alpha Company and part 1-20 Infantry Battalion Headquarters is moving to LZ Baldy and then to Duc Pho by Caribou and return to the 11th Brigade Control. At 1645hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC, 2nd Lift landed Duc Pho 0945hrs, 3rd Lift at 1125hrs, 4th Lift at 1224hrs, 5th Lift 1420hrs and 6th Lift at 1645hrs. Convoy departed at 1540hrs, will move last lift to Charlie Brown Alpha Company. Colonel Barker from 4-3 Infantry was reported KIA.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0750hrs It appears that the Command and Control Helicopter from 4-3 Infantry from Quang Ngai collided in the air. The Chopper went down vicinity BS727808 with 7 Personnel on board. Slicks were dispatch from Duc Pho to lift elements from Alpha Company 4-3 into the area. Troops picked up 5 bodies from choppers, on EM name unknown at this time, was pick up believed to be alive, and carried to Chu Lai by a 174 Chopper number 421, however man was DOA at Chu Lai. The five bodies were sent to Chu Lai Troops from Alpha Company 4-3 Infantry were lifted into area of 0-2 Plane and found 1 body in air craft unable to get out. AS of 1950hrs as much of the chopper and 02 Pilots bodies as possible have been removed. At 1920hrs Section F Bronco Defense reports a ¼ ton vehicle coming down Montezuma road become out of control, results slight accident damage broken win shield and driver shaken up. FAC was reported to be Air Force MAJOR DAVID GEORGE BRENNER (DIED WHILE MISSING), LTC FRANK AKELEY BARKER 4-3 INFANTRY CO, WO1 JAMES DEVRIN CARTER PILOT, CPT EARL R. MICHLES S-2, SP4 GARY ANDREW MILTON DOOR GUNNER, WO1 JERRY HAMPTON JOHNSON CO PILOT, 1LT MICHAEL LEON PHILLIPS ARTILLERY LNO LISTED AS KIA.

 

Alpha Company
June 13, 1968

Alpha Company is airlifted from LZ Ryder to LZ Baldy by UH-1 and then along with 1st Battalion 20th Infantry Headquarters are then air moved by caribou to Duc Pho Area of Operation and control of the 11th Brigade. Convoy departed at 1540hrs to move Alpha Company to LZ Charlie Brown to take over the Security Mission for LZ.

 

Bravo Company
June 13, 1968

Bravo Company working with Charlie Company 3-21 Infantry continued to Search and Clear operations to vicinity BS9932.

 

Charlie Company
June 13, 1968

Charlie Company swept west on their Search and Destroy operation to BS9932.

 

Delta Company
June 13, 1968

Delta Company has the Security Mission for LZ Ross, Delta Company at 1008hrs Delta Company vicinity BT054365 received 30 rounds of weapons fire returned with fire with small arms fire, checked area and reports had negative casualties of damage Alpha Company and Delta Company and 1st Battalion Headquarters and Headquarter Company with Recon is moving to LZ Baldy and then to Duc Pho by Caribou and return to the 11th Brigade Control.

 

Echo Company
June 13, 1968

Echo Company is located at LZ Ross where Battalion Forward, is located and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and the Base Defense on LZ Ross. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Ross where they continue to provide direct fire support for the Battalion. 1-20 Infantry Recon Platoon man OP Dragon.
