Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0215hrs String 73 fired on stationary target A with negative metal conformation and engaged with 6 HE VT 105 Artillery rounds were fired at 0211hrs. At 0845hrs TMF Fire Mission time 0825hrs String 76 fired twice at an unknown stationary target they fired the first time with 5 HE VT 105 Artillery at 0832hrs and at 0837hrs they fired 16 HE 105 Artillery. Visual Recon Team was in the area but reported negative results. At 1115hrs Charlie Company we are breaking station with 1-20 and going on the 4-3 Infantry push. At 1215hrs Intelligence Report form Major Ward, Senior Advisor Duc Pho district. At 121700hrs July 1970 PF patrol in vicinity BS7838 observed 20 NVA/VC with weapons moving east to west. Engaged the enemy with M-79 fire and withdrew. At 1545hrs Dolphin took 12-15 AK fire rounds from enemy grid BS756582 when lifting off Delta 14’s LZ during re supply, friendly grid was BS756578. The 14 element is sending out a patrol. The Dolphin took negative hits after checking the ship. Dolphin was on the ground when they took fire from 400 meters east of them. No return fire by ground forces. At 1625hrs the 17 patrol engage 5 VC with weapons at 150 meters, they checked the area and found 1 NVA helmet, 2 drag marks, and 1 blood trail at BS763578. At 1800hrs S-5 Report Psychological operations continued for both VIP and Chieu Hoi and using both leaflets drops and tapes. VIP turning in was conducted in the Mo Duc area with 1000 Vietnamese paid out. Bravo Company at BS730652 had a Med Cap with 87 Vietnamese civilians treated. Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

Bravo Company
July 13, 1970
Bravo Company continued their joint Operations with PF and RF units on their Hamlet Pacification and security of Highway 1. At 0612hrs Bravo Company the 38 element is moving out on a sweep of BS726576. The 34 element is blocking at BS728582. At 0740hrs Bravo Company 38 element a fire in a haystack set off a booby trap Chi Com grenade trip wire device. 2 US were wounded but a Dust Off was not required line #41 PFC Michael D. Sullivan took a frag in the forehead and line #116 SP4 Gilbert W. Alvarado took a frag in the right leg. At 0835hrs Bravo Company all elements have closed on their semi-permanent locations. At 0905hrs Bravo Company read out on booby traps found yesterday at 1930hrs 1 hand frag (M67) at BS752659 with trip wire across a trail. Also 1 M-79 round lying beside the frag and 1 round 105mm pressure release type 10 meters from the 1st booby trap. At Bravo Company found at BS750650 2 60mm rounds and 1 GI canteen full of Petna with electrical basting cap device, all were destroyed. At 1716hrs Bravo Company the 16 element found 4 155rounds at BS722621 (2 rusted and 2 gutted) blown in place. At 1955hrs Bravo Company the 17 element is moving out on patrol at BS680605, the 57 element is moving out on patrol at BS754657.
Charlie Company

At 1115hrs Charlie Company we are breaking station with 1-20 Infantry and going on the 4-3 Infantry push. At 1200hrs Charlie Company a priority Dust Off was called for 1 US with a bad cut in his hand caused by bayonet. He was using bayonet when it slipped and punctured his hand, Dust Off completed at 1212hrs PFC Bruce B Tiedman with laceration palm of left hand to B 23 Medical treat and released. Then Charlie Company was OPCON to the 4-3 Infantry.
Delta Company

At 0630hrs Delta Company the 34 element is moving out of their Night Defense Position on patrol at BS773547. The 36 element is moving out of the Night Defense position on Patrol at BS768547. The 57 element is moving out to set up a day ambush at BS749565. The 58 element is moving out at BS760560 on patrol. The 16 element is moving out on patrol and the 18 element to goon patrol. At 0645hrs Delta Company at BS760560 the 58 element found intact 1 M-72 (LAW). The 58 element Kit Carson Scout found this M-72 (law) after searching out the area. At 0702hrs Delta Company the 58 element has closed on their Day Logger at BS751561 and at 0728hrs Delta 54. 34 and 14 elements have closed on their Day Logger at BS751561, BS772542 and BS756578 respectively. At 0902hrs Delta Company the 34 element requested a routine Dust Off for 1 male civilian with a gunshot wound to this foot. The Civilian came into their location late yesterday completed at 0925hrs. At 1020hrs Delta Company at BS751561 the 24 element detained 1 Vietnamese female approximately age 18 years old, negative ID. Her name is Nguyen Thi Hea, after checking the black list we found out that she is a member of the political struggle cadre of Doc Chanh Village and will evac to Military Intelligence. At 1255hrs Delta Company the 54 element detained 2 females at BS751561 1 25 years old was named Trinh Thi Hanh. The other was 70 years old and named Nguyen Thi Dhungho, her name is similar to 1 on the back list so will evac to Military Intelligence. At 2129hrs Delta Company the 1st Platoon Rat Patrol moving into a Ville met a Momsasan who said the 2 VC were coming into the Ville. The 16 element spotted 2 VC coming into the Ville and engaged with small arms fire with results 2 KIA were male, wearing all black, negative weapons, negative ID age estimated 25 to 30. They engaged them from 30-40 meters at grid BS758577. At 1750hrs Delta Company the 1st Platoon on patrol observe 7-9 enemy moving west to east at 600 meters, they observed a few weapons, engaged with small arms fire received small arms fire. Results of checking the area: 1 enemy WIA and captured, wearing blue shirt and black pants, 1 AK-47. The 1st Platoon thinks they where the same enemy as before that south- southeast. The 2nd Platoon spotted 1 enemy evading south engaged at 150 meters with small arms fire results 1 enemy KIA, dressed in green uniform, 25 years old, 1 bag of rice, 1 bag of tobacco, 1 diary, documents, no ID or weapon will evacuate to Liz. The 1st Platoon picked up 2 detainees near area of VC WIA, 1 female 28 years old wearing Black, no ID. The other was 1 male 18 years and wearing black, no ID both evacuated to MI. Readout form MI the WIA was member of C19 Company the 18 years one male detainee was a member of Farmers Association. At 2220hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon Rat pat returning from 758577, pick up 1 detainee, a female VC suspect age 21 dressed in Black, no ID, she was in a hootch with older momason, Kit Carson Scout said she wasn’t suppose to be there believes she is VC.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0500hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Fire Mission 5 for a total expended of 108 HE round. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0555hrs Recon Platoon is moving back to LZ Liz and closed on Liz at 0854hrs. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for the 1-20 Infantry. At 1932hrs Recon Platoon all of the elements are moving out. At 2023hrs Recon Platoon reports the 21 element is in location 300 meters east of preplanned. At 2038hrs Recon at BS776379 the 21 element sprung an ambush on 5 to 6 personnel who were talking and walking casually along the trail. They fired illumination and check the area and found 4 KIA, 2 M-16, male and 1 female all of them were wearing black, ages were estimate to be 25 to 35. Also CIA was 2 pistol belts, 6 M-26 (hand frag). There were negative documents and negative ID. They engaged them on the trail while they were moving west to east.
