Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continue their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0435hrs TMF vicinity BS794322 unknown number of person engaged with artillery unknown results. At 0815hrs Charlie Company 26 engineers report on the damage on 12 December LZ Liz. 5 ton truck 100% destroyed #B-44, Hood #455F7294, two trucks B 33, 05D17160, radiator windshield, 6 tires destroyed. The tent has frag holes in it. 4.2 Platoon one ¾ ton truck had frag holes in gas tank and fuel line. At 1045hrs 1-20 Infantry Concerning M Boats on the Beach Operation has been halted until the weather clears, the surf is too bad will try in an hour or so. At 1130hrs 1-20 Infantry Reference to incoming on LZ Liz the rounds were fired from 8" howitzers from LZ Bronco investigation is being conducted at this time. At 1145hrs 1-20 Infantry, 5 Nation Police Field Force and 1 interpreter with the IPW took off without being relieved. They were told they would be off, US are still there the operation is not competed. At 1430hrs 1-20 Infantry request set of Scout Dogs for Alpha Company 1300hrs 14 December. At 1455hrs Ajax for 1-20 Infantry Alpha 86, Bravo 107, Charlie 103 and Delta 109, and 4.2 Platoon 21.
Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0950hrs Alpha Company 12, 74, 24, and 36 snakes have closed on LZ Liz. At 1945hrs Last night Reported incoming on First Support Base LIZ the rounds were fired from 8" howitzers from Fire Support Base Bronco and investigation is being conducted at this time. At 1135hrs Alpha Company reports Alpha 12 location is at grid BS711430 the National Police and one interpreter left. At 1255hrs Alpha Company has moved out to grid BS748441. At 1300hrs Alpha Company picked up a set of scout dogs from Bud Pad. At 1543hrs Alpha Company request Urgent Dust Off for 1 US with frag wounds to the stomach. He received these wounds from a hand frag. The 32 element spotted NVA run into a bunker and threw a hand grenade in at grid BS746443, Name is Thiesen and completed by Dolphin 186 complete at 1554hrs. At 1655hrs Alpha Company the 33 element location of BS746443, where the US was injured, 3 VC/NVA have surrendered and come out of the bunker. They had one AK47 and 1 carbine. We believe there may be some more dead inside. At 1810hrs Alpha Company 33 at BS746443 reports a sum of earlier action. Report of finding previously bunkers: and 5 VC CIA, 5 VC KIA and 2 AK47 CIA. Also 1 M-1 carbine and several documents, one VC CIA is WIA and 5 VC KIA were KIA when US attempted to flush them out of the bunkers with grenades. The documents found are at Bronco, 1 AK is at LZ Liz and 1AK and carbine is with me. At 1836hrs Alpha Company 32 and 33 elements have closed on LZ Liz to continue their Security Mission of LZ Liz. At 2005hrs Alpha Company reports all snakes are in the locations at 15 at BS777441, 24 at BS768439 and the 75 is at BS772440.
Bravo Company

At 0635hrs Bravo Company the 76 and 75 elements have closed on BS789417 and BS787424. At 0620hrs Bravo Company 15 snake has closed on BS783433. At 0645hrs Bravo Company the PF will have bamboo cutting at 0830hrs at grid BS776438. At 0800hrs Bravo Company location is at BS783433 as they continue to work with the ARVN RF and PF forces in their Pacification Programs. At 1105hrs Bravo Company the 33 element has closed on BS776446 and the rangers will take their place at grid BS782462. At 1620hrs Bravo the 72 element has closed on the South Bridge and at 1635hrs the Gorilla element is moving out. At 1657hrs Bravo Company reports the Gorilla element is at checkpoint 1 at BS794430 and will move to checkpoint 2 at BS794434, checkpoint 3 at BS793434, checkpoint 4 at BS790441 and checkpoint 5 at BS786440. They will close on the 32 location, after their sweep is completed. At 1706hrs Bravo Company 33 element is moving to the Ranger location at BS782462 and will replace the Rangers. The Rangers will return to Twin Ville. At 1805hrs The Gorilla element has closed on the 32 location. At 1847hrs Bravo Company at BS785461 with PF 216 requested Dust Off for 1 Vietnamese child with multi frag wounds in head. The PF 216 was firing H and I with their M-79 and the Dust Off is completed at 1924hrs. At 1905hrs the 75 element is at BS789421 and the 14 at BS787430 and at 2000hrs Bravo 76 is at BS796410 and 32 is at BS782462.
Charlie Company

At 0800hrs Charlie Company is located at BS793455. At 0910hrs MSGT Drake passed on the location to Charlie for crossing the river at BS829410. At 1010hrs Charlie reports the boat crew has secured the ramp with the original LCM and they are now digging around the LCM. In 1hour they will attempt to pull the boat out. At 1026hrs Dolphin 186 is on station. At 1145hrs Charlie Company the operation to free the M-Boat was cancelled due to weather. We will start again when the weather clears. At 1148hrs Charlie Company at BS833437, one navy person fell off of an M Boat and cut his back (Winstone), Dust Off requested and completed at 1159hrs. At 1323hrs Charlie Company 1-20 Infantry at BS833437, still have two mike boats stranded and one dossier on the beach. Salvage boat went back to home station because of weather conditions. At 1523hrs Charlie Company we are moving into the control fire zone and CPT Basset has cleared this zone as they move toward LZ Bronco. At 1827hrs Charlie Company is located at LZ Bronco getting ready for their Stand Down.
Delta Company

At 0915hrs the 1-20th Infantry notified 4-3rd Infantry Battalion, that Delta Company 1-20 Infantry would be at grid BS784443 on the 13 December 1969. At 2110hrs Delta Company the 32 and 12 elements have closed on BS704450. Plans for the 31 and 14 of December include a Night Defense Position site at BS704450. Snake locations at BS698457 it the74 element, and at BS699458 will be the 34 element. Tomorrow Delta 12 element is going to conduct a Recon in Force to vicinity BS714468 and the 72 element in the vicinity BS698408 and then move to BS682406. At 1835hrs Delta Company the 43 and 74 elements have moved out to BS696457 and BS699458. At 1904hrs Delta Company reported their Night positions the 34 element is at BS699453 and the 74 element is at BS696457.
Echo Company
December 13, 1969
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0610hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Supporting Fires 15, Observed Missions 3 and Unobserved Mission 1 for a total expended of 75 HE and 9 Illumination. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon reports their location at Chu Lai for their Stand Down. SGT Thomas Kruchowski was evac to the 91st Evac Hospital and PFC Ronnie L. Palmer was evac to the 27th Surgical Hospital (11C10 see HHC December 12, 1969).
