Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0010hrs LZ Liz a individual from Charlie Battery 1-82 Artillery (155 area) possibly under the influence of drugs and or a excess amount of thiazone was acting belligerently with a load weapon. At this time the man has been quieted and his weapon has been cleared and removed from him. The individual will be removed from LZ Liz, tomorrow by Charlie Battery 1-82 Artillery. At 0016hrs Inferno Blue who was working Box 61 and at 0100hrs broke station with negative findings. At 0715hrs resupply bird is on station call sign is Upright 163. At 0830hrs Combat Assault Birds is on station, Call Sign Hermit 596 (of 176 AHC). At 0830hrs LZ Liz Access Road is clear and open. At 1005hrs AMC with 5 ships, is on station at 0840hrs 1st PZ 0921hrs Alpha Company LZ BS645515, 3rd LZ and Last LZ for Alpha Company 3 ships at 0950hrs at BS645515. At 0940hrs Recon 3rd LZ 2 ships at 0950hrs to BS651507, Combat Assault is completed and AMC and Lift ships are released. At 1126hrs S-5 has depart LZ Liz for Med Cap at Mo Duc. At 1440hrs Primo 2 (11 Brigade Aviation) broke station and broke station at 1535hrs. At 1645hrs Resupply ship Upright 163 has broken station. At 1845hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC received report from MACV a woman had been slightly injured by a 2 ½ ton truck was driven by a Negro. Colonel Whitley is investigating at this time. Major Gregg informs us the vehicle belongs to Charlie Battery 6-11 Artillery, request the responsible Officer be at MACV MO Duc first ting in the morning. At 1925hrs LZ Liz on 100% practice Alert, North OP 100% at 1927hrs, South OP at 1928hrs, Charlie Company at 1926hrs, 155 Artillery at 1929hrs, 105 Artillery at 1929hrs, reaction force at 1930hrs, Echo Company at 1928hrs and 4.2 mortar at 1928hrs. Cease-fire was called at 1928hrs, alert terminated at 1959hrs. At 2005hrs 1-20 Infantry reports their Field Strength Alpha 50, Bravo 61, Delta 54, Echo 23 and HHC 9. At 2030hrs Requests Urgent Dust Off for 1 US with severe abdomen pains and Dust Off 59 made pick up at 2067hrs to Chu Lai. Legend: 1st Platoon 59, 2nd Platoon 56, 3rd Platoon 89, 4th Platoon 97 and CO-29.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.
Alpha Company
August 13, 1971
At 1005hrs AMC is on station at 0840hrs, 1st PZ at 0921hrs 5 ships Alpha LZ BS645515, 2nd LZ 5 ships BS645515 and 3rd LZ 3 Alpha 2 Recon at 0930hrs LZ BS651507. At 1126hrs Alpha Company accidental firing of M-203, Time 1035hrs fire personnel with little frag metal. Tree will remain in field. Two will be sent to LZ Liz on resupply bird to be treated by the medics. The people were together for a briefing when the weapon accidentally discharged and hit a clump of trees approximately 10 meters from the briefing location. People to be returned on resupply bird are Line # D2943, B 1473. People that will remain in field are P0302, O7394, and H7858. Alpha Company has a man go give the operator of M-203 a short class in details and function of the weapon. At 1740hrs Alpha Company closed in on their Night Defense Position at BS648520. At 11936 Alpha Company is in their Night Defense Position at BS642515.
Bravo Company

At 0645hrs Bravo Company is moving to Patrol Base at BS651807. At 1130hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon is moving to BS653502 and at 1340hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon is at BS642504. At 1735hrs Bravo Company started to move to their Night Defense Position and at 1955hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon and Command Post in Night Defense Position at BS645505.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. Charlie Company reports at 0010hrs LZ Liz one individual from Charlie Battery 1-82nd Artillery (155-area) possible under the influence of drugs or excess amount o Thiazone was acting belligerently with a loaded weapon. At this time the man has been quieted and weapon has been cleared and removed from him. The individual will be removed from LZ Liz tomorrow by Charlie Battery. At 0820hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon moving out on perimeter patrol to BS760434. At 0825hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon is at BS760444 to BS750424 and then to BS755427 and at 0945hrs Charlie Company closed back on LZ Liz. At 1534hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon moving out to bs751434 and closed back at 1634hrs on LZ Liz. At 1925hrs 100% Alert LZ Liz is called and is finished at 1959hrs.
Delta Company

At 0937hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon is at checkpoint 1 at grid BS656492, and at 0950hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon at checkpoint 2 at BS657495. At 1005hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon is at checkpoint 3 at BS658498 and Delta 2nd Platoon moving to BS657493. At 1540hrs 2nd Platoon is moving out to BS657493. At 1905hrs Delta Company is established their Night Defense Position at BS657497.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0940hrs Recon 3rd LZ 2 ships at 0950hrs to BS651507, Combat Assault is completed and AMC and Lift ships are released. At 1941hrs Recon is moving to Night Defense Position at BS654504 and closed at 2003hrs.
