Headquarters and Headquarter Company
August 13, 1970

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0015hrs North OP at BS714435 5 to 6 stationary personnel were engaged with 7 HE of 4.2 HE for the 4.2 Platoon. At 0040hrs 11 Brigade if we want the air strike at BS747563 the request is to be put in the AM of 13 August 1970. At 0130hrs TMF String 74 at BS855375 sighted 2 personnel that where moving wet to east at 3 miles per hour with metal detected and engaged with 6 rounds HE of 105 Artillery. At 1000hrs Charlie Company M72 received 2 RPG rounds at BS688580 from BS682576 with one of them missing a dossier and the other going through the engine. There is 1 person with possible damage to the ears (Engineer) and Dust Off at 1025hrs. At 1750hrs 26 Engineer reports a total of 40 hours were worked clearing 60 acres in the area BS686579 to BS690578 to BS692591 to BS686591 destroying 12 bunkers and 200 meters of trench. Also they report destroying 150 meters of tunnel, 1 fighting position, 1 81mm round, 1 Chi Com grenade and 1 105 Artillery casing (empty). D7 are on hand 1 with a leak in the rear main, 1 CEV, 1 AC and 1 M548 are operational. At 1855hrs 1-20 Infantry requests an Are of Operation extension from BS700480 to BS700510 to BS729500 to BS744480 in the Date/Time/Grid 140500hrs to 150500hrs to Combat Assault Recon Platoon, was approved by Brigade CPT Robinson # B110.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. PFC Theodore Smith was evac to the 91st Evac Hospital.

 

Alpha Company
August 13, 1970

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz with the Access Road.

 

Bravo Company
August 13, 1970

Bravo Company used multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. Bravo Company detainee 2 female at different location and turn them over to Military Intelligence.

 

Charlie Company
August 13, 1970

At 0737hrs Charlie Company the 42, 32 and 70 elements will have their Day Logger in last night, Night Defense Position at BS719559. At 0846hrs Charlie Company the 52 element spotted 3 enemies who ran in a wood line which is supposed to be heavily booby trap requested artillery, but received negative clearance. At 1000hrs Charlie Company M72 received 2 RPG rounds at BS688580 from BS682576 with one of them missing a dossier and the other going through the engine. There is 1 person with possible damage to the ears (Engineer) and Dust Off at 1025hrs. We have requested artillery to engage the area. At 1158hrs Charlie Company the 32 element received a few rounds of sniper fire at BS757572 from 400 meters to their north. In checking the area a sign was found that encourage the local people to kill US personnel. At 1910hrs Charlie Company the 52 element took 10 to 15 rounds of sniper fire from their north at 400 meters at BS707546. A return engagement was made with negative findings. The 56 element also took a few sniper rounds. At 2050hrs Charlie Company the 52 element is at BS707552 where 6 detainees, 3 females aging from 20 to 43 and 3 males aging from 15 to 45, were pick up all the Detainees are wearing black. The Kit Carson Scout says they are not VC but have no ID. They tried to evade when told to stop we will take them to village chief tomorrow. At 2135hrs Charlie Company he Night Defense Position and the 35 ambush are both taking small arms fire, 8 to 10 rounds and are believed to be trying draw return fire and to pinpoint Charlie Company location. The fire is coming from a Ville 100 meters north of 35 element’s ambush location Charlie Company is not returning fire because they can not pinpoint the VC.

 

Delta Company
August 13, 1970

At 0040hrs Delta Company we are sending the 72 element out to check the old Day Logger site at BS759559 to check some noises. At 0115hrs Delta Company the 72 element has closed with negative findings. Delta Company continued to use saturation patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0634hrs Delta Company the 32, 34 and the 36 elements are moving to BS778577, BS778579 and BS778575 respectively and the 72 element is moving to BS765564, with the 74 element is moving to BS765566 and the 76 element is moving to BS765562. At 0737hrs Delta Company the 70, 42 and 72 elements resupply will be in the Day Logger and the 52 element will be in the Day Logger and the 32 element resupply at BS754571. At 0937hrs Delta Company the M26 has closed on Bs753579, the 32, 34 and 36 Day logger is at BS757564 and the BS7274 and the 76 element has closed on BS782562.

 

Echo Company
August 13, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0518hrs 4.2 Mortar Platoon report Fire Missions 2 for a total expend of HE 47 rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. PFC David L. Snyder was attached to the 27th Surgical Hospital (11C10).
