Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0155hrs TMF Fire Mission at 0135hrs Sting 293 Target A, unknown number of stationary personnel with metal not confirmation engaged at 0142hrs with 12 HE 81 Mortar. At 0250hrs TMF Fire Mission at 0225hrs Sting 310 Target B has 2 to 3 personnel moving east to west with metal confirmation and engaged at 0233hrs with 12 4.2 HE Mortars. At 0720hrs 1-20 Infantry LZ Liz Access road is now open. At 0740hrs Dolphin 17 is on station for re supply. At 0740hrs MACV Mo Duc at BS713565 requests 1 Urgent Dust Off for 1 RF with gunshot wound to stomach from VC sniper, Dust Off 54 completed at 0800hrs. At 0850hrs Helix 37 is on station checking the Song Ve Valley. At 1235hrs Alpha Company Helix 32 is on station and spotted 1 large submerged sampan vicinity BS606508 along with a .51caliber position vicinity BS619520. Fighters are on station approximately 1200hrs and while expending uncovered what is believed to be an active (.51caliber) pit vicinity BS620520. An element of Alpha Company is beginning a sweep of the area at this time. At 1420hrs S-5 Med Cap is in location and operating, treated 103 patients and completed at 1600hrs. At 1455hrs Primo 4 while en route to LZ Liz for Command and Control Helicopter took 5 rounds of AK-47 fire vicinity BS655524. At 1655hrs PF 164 engaged what is believed to be C-45 vicinity BS715567. Gun ship came on station and expended twice. An RVN Company was requested to reinforce the element is moving at this time. At 1800hrs Dragon reports 1-4 ARVN will go back into Song Ve Valley but not lower then grid line BS610552, moving tonight 13 April 1971 and will be in location by first light. At 2030hrs 11th Brigade a terrorist threw an unknown type of explosive into Duc Pho Vietnamese theatre, results were 30 WIA, KIA unknown all WIA were taken to LZ Bronco, received message from Brigade vicinity of incident was BS803377. At 2038hrs Saber 40 is on station for Box 61, could not work Box due to illumination and weather. At 2110hrs Saber 40 is on station to work Box 62, took fire from 1 weapon (10 to 15 rounds) vicinity BS755400, engaged area and broke station at 2125hrs due to broken mini gun. Full report will follow. At 2119hrs TMF Fire Mission 2057hrs Sting 293, Target C, has 2 to 3 personnel is moving south to north at 3 miles per hour, with negative confirmation and engaged at 2100hrs with 22 HE 81mm Mortar. At 2140hrs Saber 40 reports that at BS741423 received automatic weapons fire on north side of Ville. At BS746392 saw a large bunker with tunnel connection to it. At 2146hrs Fire Mission at 2135hrs Sting 293 Target C has 3 to 5 personnel moving south to north at 3 miles per hour, negative metal confirmation and engaged at 2139hrs 20 HE 81mm mortar. At 2230hrs Message to Delta Company from 1-20 Infantry TOC S-3: 1. Artillery displacement wills dictates your movement west early tomorrow. 2. Area of Operation will be Box BS6153, BS6554 and BS6553 to BS6153. 3. Keep out of Low area, booby Traps and ambushes. 4. Maintain commo with all elements and TOC or Dragon Operations. At 2230hrs LZ Dragon reports taking 10 to 20 incoming mortars outside their perimeter on the north side with negative damage or casualties, estimate tube location was to northwest of Dragon. Legend: 1st Platoon 39, 2nd Platoon 74, 3rd Platoon 31, 4th Platoon 57, CO-52.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

At 1235hrs Alpha Company Helix 22 is on station and spotted 1 larger submerged sampan vicinity BS606507 and a.51 Caliber pit vicinity BS619520. Fights are on station approximately 1200hrs and while expending uncovered what is believed to be an active .51 Caliber pit vicinity BS620520. An element of Alpha Company is beginning a sweep of the area at this time. At 1345hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon while moving southeast adjacent to 516 highway on trail at BS616533 found 3 Hoi Chanh leaflets, 20 meters down the trail a tree was bent pointing down said trail. The Patrol continued and discovered 1 60mm mortar round with tripwire across trail daisy chained to 1 60 mm round, delay chained to 1 Old French M16 mine, daisy chained to two piles of 105 charges. Booby Trap signs were spotted in the area, as well as numerous sandal tracks on the trail. The 1st Platoon pulled back and engaged with Artillery. At 1600hrs Alpha Company 2nd and 1st Platoons in Patrol Base at BS618528. At 2025hrs Alpha Company Command Post and 4th Platoon in place at BS633516 and 1st 2nd Platoon is at Night Defense Position at BS618526.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued to have the Security Mission of LZ Liz.
Charlie Company
April 13, 1971
Charlie Company will be using multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation today and with multiple night ambushes out tonight. At 0820hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon ambush has closed on BS744414 and 2nd Platoon ambush closed on BS724435. At 0950hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon in their Patrol Base at BS716425. At 2045hrs Charlie Company all elements in location Command Post, 4th and 1st Platoons is at BS733425, 3rd Platoon is at BS734420, 1st Platoon ambush is at BS725417, and 2nd Platoon ambush is at BS722442. Also 2nd Platoon ambush at BS724442 and 1 element of 3rd Platoon is at BS734416.
Delta Company
April 13, 1971
Delta Company continued the Recon in Force in their Area of Operation. At 1255hrs Delta Company 2nd, 4th Platoons and Command Post is at checkpoint 1 at BS645535. Delta Company 3rd Platoon patrol is moving out to BS633530. At 1551hrs Delta Company 3rd and 1st Platoons in their Patrol Base at BS627527. At 1735hrs Delta Company 1st, 3rd Platoons sighted 2 NVA/VC at the vicinity BS606509, also sighted 1 NVA/VC at grid BS606529 and they are engaging with Artillery 105mm on grid BS606509. Alpha Company is engaging 609529 with 81mm Mortar. All personnel spotted had packs and weapons and 81mm mortar end of mission at 1750hrs, report 2 possible KIA (not confirmed). Personnel were dressed in all black about 500 meters away and a Artillery 105 Fire Mission is over at 1800hrs. Personnel were 250 to 400 meters away. At 1940hrs Delta Company 1st and 3rd platoons at their Night Defense Position at BS627521, Command Post, 4th and 2nd platoon at vicinity BS647524.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for senor team at OP Wink.
