Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0155hrs TMF S-61B sighted stationary target, metal confirmed with negative clearance. At 1200hrs Brigade 5-3 Conference "Visit of Aviators" the 16 CAG will send their newly assigned pilots to Battalion fire bases for 3 days, purpose is to instill with the new Aviators appreciation for the infantry by seeing a Infantry Battalion at work, our visitor 1000hrs 15 September 1970. At 1305hrs TMF at 1302 S-73B sighted 3 packs moving northeast to southwest at 3 miles per hour metal confirmation, with negative clearance. At 1850hrs S-5 Wrap Up, leaflets dropped in last 2400hrs 37,000 day, 65,000 night and speakers time 20 minutes day, negative night, Med Cap at Duc My Village 44 treated at 767460. Also reports 28,000 VIP Theme leaflets dropped by S-5, 1-20 Infantry along Highway 1 grids 757468 to 735535. At 2050hrs Artillery Bunker 1 for Charlie Battery 6-11 Artillery had trip flare fired Illumination and M-60 machine, with negative results. Legend: 1st Platoon 53-58, 2nd 23-28, 3rd Platoon 83-88, 4th Platoon 63-68 and CO 31.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company 24 element closed 698549, Alpha Company 31 element at 698549 has 11 detainee 10 females, 17-51 and 1 male 41 all with bad ID and evacuated to Military Intelligence. Set up Multiple ambushes in the evening.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued their multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0832hrs Bravo Company 53 element spotted 1 VC evading into a tree line could not engaged and the 53 element set up a blocking force 23 element swept area and found 2 ammo cans of documents in a bunker.
Charlie Company
At 0720hrs Charlie Company 56 element is moving out for 713413. At 0905hrs Charlie Company 26 element is moving out for 726465. At 0920hrs Charlie Company reports the 86 element has closed on 718431 and 57 closed on 719421. At 0940hrs Charlie Company the 86 element has 1 male detainee approximately 15, no ID, said he was going to 708426 to cut bamboo, evacuated with re supply chopper. At 1240hrs Charlie Company ran a VP Program bought two 155 rounds, 1 M79 round, and 1 105 round. At 1616hrs Charlie Company the 27 element is moving out for 725454, 87 to 713425 and the 55 element moving to 726406. At 1630hrs Charlie Company 55 element found 1 bag of 9mm ammo 25 rounds, looks like they came from a French Sub machinegun also found 1 GI flashlight and batter and the 55 element closed at this time. At 1937hrs Charlie Company 56 element is moving out for 729419, Charlie 23 element in location at 729448, with the 25 element moving to 726452. At 1955hrs Charlie Company the 53 element in location at 725418, the 85 element moving out for 710432. At 2000hrs Charlie Company found at 713438 8 60mm rounds, 1 82mm round, and 2 M26 hand frag ordnance was old and had been partially buried and rain washed dirty away blown in place tomorrow.
Delta Company
At 0600hrs Delta Company 55 element in location at 733652, the 56 element
is at 716633, and 85 element in location at 712584. At 0650hrs Delta Company 53
element in location at 752578, 63 and 23 is location at 759559 and 83 is
location at 755571. At 0815hrs Delta Company 56 element detained 5 Vietnamese
females at 742564, released them after checking them out. At 0830hrs Delta
Company 86 picked up some documents out hooch in a ammo can 768556. At 1000hrs
Delta Company 26 element has 1 male detainee approximately 40 and 5 females 40
to 62, and closed on 744558. At 1645hrs Delta Company the 83 element received 2
M-79 rounds at their Day Logger at 759559, the 84 patrol going out at this time,
round came from 300 meters to their west, round hit 200 meters outside the Day
Logger. At 1710hrs Delta Company the 25 element is moving out for 756577 and the
57 element is moving out for 757579. At 1710hrs Delta Company in contact at
754582, request gun-ships, heavy fire from northeast about 400 meters away.
Return fire and moving at this time calling in artillery asking for blocking
force 752587 2-3 enemy with AK-47 and 1 M-79 evaded to east, At 1800hrs Primo
saw personnel go into hootches and Delta Company 1st Platoon checking
the area with negative results. At 1800hrs Delta Company 55 element saw 2 packs
at approximately 747577 moving to the northeast, element checking out the area,
with the 53 and 23 element sweeping east with help form Primo 3 and 5checked out
hootches for personnel. The 55 element checked out area of 747577 were he
spotted 2 personnel. The 83 element will swept northeast, with the 53 element
detained 1 male age 40 looked like he had been hit by artillery. At 1730hrs
Delta Company 26, 55, 56 and 57 closed on 754574 and 83 closed on 744534. At
1845hrs all 3 element had negative findings in the area. At 1925hrs Delta
Company all element’s closed on 53 at 747580 and 31, 63 and 23 elements at their
Night Defense Position at 753561. At 1955hrs Delta Company reports the 86
element has received 5-6 rounds returned fire with negative results.
Echo Company
September 12, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for the 1-20 Infantry.
