Headquarters and Headquarter Company
September 12, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0650hrs 6-11 Artillery at LZ Bronco, bunkers 63-64 received 5 rounds small arms fire, observed 1 individual evading toward tree line. At 0745hrs 6-11 Artillery at BS812383 observed some people working up the stream when got 1 wire started messing with it. GI’s yelled and they evaded into the wood line. At 0853hrr 1-20 Infantry TOC at BS798518 Command and Control Helicopter spotted boat with 2 males evading and Swift boat forced boat to shore. Command and Control Helicopter picked them up and took them to Mo Duc for questioning.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
September 12, 1968

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz and at 0815hrs with Alpha Company 87, 60, Command Post at LZ Liz. At 1355hrs Alpha Company 60 located at BS703392. At 1820hrs Alpha Company 60 is at LZ Liz, A 62 at BS707368, A63 at BS706374, A 64 at BS707383, A69 at BS760413, A70 at BS736425 and A71 at BS736444.

 

Bravo Company
September 12, 1968

At 0815hrs Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Dragon with Bravo 87 at BS728554, with Bravo 67 at BS784529. At 0930hrs Bravo Company at BS778529 engaged 2 VC evading results 2 VC KIA, with 87 at BS740564, and 67 at BS776528. At 1740hrs Bravo Company at BS765567 engaged 6 VC with weapons results 1 VC KIA while moving to check out the body was in crossfire from approximately 3 different group of VC. Bravo Company received heavy cal fire element is pinned down, requested Gun Ships and two Sharks where sent out to area. At 2006hrs Bravo Company at BS763568 while moving received 4 rounds small arms fire and spotted 2 VC engaged with M-60 fire. Bravo Company then received heavy fire from BS765564 spotted 6 VC ducking into engaged with 4.2 Mortar Fore both location negative results on first location and on second location results 1 VC KIA and 1 VC WIA. While attempting to move in received automatic weapons fire and 1 which sounded like 30 cal or light machine gun, Bar, Gun ships arrived and worked the area till dark. At 1900hrs we did call Artillery in on both of the areas to cut the Escape Avenue, and will check area at first Light.

 

Charlie Company
September 12, 1968

Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder. At 1200hrs Charlie Company 87, 67, Command Post at LZ Thunder, 60 at Charlie Brown, 63 at Bridge 94 and 92 at Bridge 111 and 70 is at BS886323.

 

Delta Company
September 12, 1968

At 0815hrs Delta Company locations 87 at BS834270, 67 Command Post at BS834297, 60 at BS845260 and 62 at BS835253. At 1800hrs Delta Company locations 87, 67 Command Post at BS828296 with 60 at BS838264, 61 at BS835278, 60 at BS845278.

 

Echo Company
September 12, 1968

Echo Company is located at LZ Thunder where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Thunder. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Thunder where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry) Battalion. At 0700hrs Recon at BS820392 spotted 1 VC running north carrying a bag took under fire with negative assessment. At 0815hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at LZ Bronco. At 1815hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at 10 at BS819401, Recon 20 at BS839384 and Recon 30 at BS799366.
