Headquarters and Headquarter Company
October 12, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Dottie and will continued to work with ARVN units their Area of Operations. At 0150hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC received 4 incoming mortar rounds, believed to be 60mm results 2 US WHA very minor no Dust Off needed firing counter mortar and artillery on suspected location at BS727871. At 0930hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC reports Dust Off 1 Vietnamese child to LZ Uptight Dust Off completed at 0926hrs. At 1735hrs Swift Boats at BS750814 spotted 1 VC male on beach with fishing net, could not get close enough to shore to observe him, fired a couple of M-79 rounds and the man failed to move, the swift boats request artillery on the area.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. SP4 Juan R. Vargas was evac to 27th Surgical Hospital with frag wounds both legs and right hand. SP4 Donald R. Sterling was evac at 1230hrs to 27th Surgical Hospital with frag wound right arm.

 

Alpha Company
October 12, 1968

Alpha Company was given the Mission to Search and Clear to the south of LZ Uptight and prepare for possible extraction at 130700rhs October 1968. The OPERATION LOGAN FIELD was terminated at 1900hrs. All elements were notified to ready for extraction and movement back to LZ Dottie.

 

Bravo Company
October 12, 1968

Bravo Company at 0800hrs in location vicinity BS793850 leaving Night Defense Position hit 2 mines evac 7 WHA still getting the KHA out. When first mine was set off as the men went to help the men that had been wounded and then a bouncing Betty mine was set off which caused a great amount of damage. Bravo Company continued to search and clear vicinity Objective 3 and to sweep and cleaning the minefield to recover KHA. No significant contact was reported during the daylight. The operation was terminated at 1900hrs. All elements were notified to ready for extraction and movement back to LZ Dottie. Bravo Company reports SGT JOE R. CARDENAS, SGT GARY MORTEN CULBERTSON, CPL ROBERT FACCIO, SGT DREW FIELDLER, PFC WALTER GOLEMBIEWSKI, SGT JUAN MARTINEZ and SGT ROBERT SANCHEZ LISTED AS KHA. The WIA is the following PFC William E. Watson, PFC Johnny F. Lovett, SP4 Nathaniel Lowe JR and PFC Harvey L. Lawson where evac to 312 Evac Hospital. Also the following WIA PFC Larry W. Roberts and PFC Richard P. Eilert were evac to the (27 Surgical Hospital) in Chu Lai.

 

Charlie Company
October 12, 1968

At 0150hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC reports we received 4 incoming mortar rounds, believed to be 60mm results 2 US WHA very minor no Dust Off needed firing counter mortar and Artillery on suspected location at BS727871. At 1505hrs Charlie Company at BS727875 located a Command detonate booby trap 155mm Artillery round and blew it in place. Charlie Company continued their Search and Clear operation south from objective 1 toward LZ Uptight, with negative activity and operation was terminated at 1900hrs. All elements notified to be ready for extraction and movement back to LZ Dottie.

 

Delta Company
October 12, 1968

Delta Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ UPTIGHT and they received 4 rounds of mortar fire at 0151hrs believed to be 60mm with 2 US WHA, very minor, will not Dust Off, LZ UPTIGHT responded with counter mortar and Artillery on suspected location BS727871.

 

Echo Company
October 12, 1968

Echo Company is located at LZ Dottie where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Dottie. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Uptight where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission on LZ Uptight.
