Headquarters and Headquarter Company
March 12, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 1106hrs 11 Brigade reports 6-11 Artillery vicinity BS815395 detained 1 VC suspect.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
March 12, 1968

Alpha Company continued their Search and Destroy mission. At 1549hrs vicinity of BS448802, observed 2 VC in green uniforms, moving into the area. At 1615hrs Alpha Company vicinity BS478811, VC prisoner thinks VC base camp to be vicinity of BS478811 and Alpha Company will check it out. A few minutes later made contact with 3 VC with weapons. Believe they wounded one are checking it out for further results. Alpha Company set up Night Defense Position vicinity BS455795.

 

Bravo Company
March 12, 1968

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder and Bridges.

 

Charlie Company
March 12, 1968

Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Dottie. Charlie Company will have Night Ambushes vicinity of Dottie at BS632848 and will conduct local patrols of the vicinity of LZ. Charlie Company reports had Negative Contact for the day.

 

Delta Company
March 12, 1968

Delta Company at 0824hrs at BS864354 engaged 1 VC evading results was 1 VC KIA. Delta Company continued their multiple patrols and Search and Destroy operations in their Area of Operation. At 0945hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon is at BS865358 and BS872347 with 2nd Platoon at BS823403 and BS834395 and 3rd Platoon is at BS766388. At 1007hrs Delta Company is at BS871347 detained 6 VCS, interpreter said they were good suspects. At 1130hrs Delta Company at BS879341 found 100 rounds .50 caliber ammo also found 155 round booby trap and destroyed in place. At 1550hrs Delta Company at BS781371 received approximately 30 rounds of automatic fire, fired artillery on enemy location with negative results, in sweeping located M16 and 7.62 brass in vicinity of where fire came from.

 

Echo Company
March 12, 1968

Echo Company and 4.2 platoon where located on LZ Thunder to provide direct support to the Battalion. At 0845hrs the Recon Platoon at BS849381 detained 1 VCS, was observed carrying a pack, he dropped pack and tried to evade. At 0945hrs Recon reports their location at BS849383. At 1228hrs Recon Platoon at BS851381 engaged 2 VC evading and results was 1 VC KIA, gray uniforms and medical kit, web gear, and documents also 1 VC CIA. At 1515hrs Recon Platoon at BS865370, the CIA VC lead them to tunnel and captured VC, 1 AK44 SN D4591, 1 US M-1 carbine SN 7442635, 50 rounds of Carbine ammo, 3 M-16 Magazines, 1 Clip M-1 ammo, MVA uniforms and 1 canteen. At 1715hrs Recon Platoon detained 3 VCS, 1 confirmed NVA also found 4 hand grenades, 1 M-26, 1 US WP grenade, documents, web gear, and medical supplies. At 1815hrs Recon Platoon at BS878344 a Command detonated mine went off in vicinity of the Recon Platoon with negative casualties.
