Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0735hrs 11 Brigade in recent contacts with the enemy we have found the enemy is using weapons and equipment in new condition. In order to better assess the new enemy capability, include in your spot reports, where applicable, the condition of the weapons, equipment and physical condition of the soldiers, are they well fed, undernourished, young, etc. At 0910hrs Helix (FAC) 34 we are putting in an Air Strike on grids BS735425 and BS735415. At 0910hrs Brigade S-3 we sighted some PF forces with civilian flags at BS800330. At 1018hrs Helix (FAC) 32 we are putting in an Air Strike on grid BS735415. At 1103hrs 1-20 Infantry we request 4 National Police to work with Recon Platoon for the period DATE/TIME 121500hrs to 161500 January 1970. We request 4 National Police have the necessary field gear and ammo. At 1107hrs LZ Liz IOS sighted 2 people at grid BS739407 and we asked helix to check it out. Charlie Company is going to check the area. We fired 19 105mm, artillery rounds and observed negative results. At 1415hrs Utility we spotted 4 51 caliber, positions at BS736416 and several tunnels, we fired M60 rounds into the area with negative results. At 1525hrs Brigade approximately 200 Vietnamese will be working in the area of BS802346 from DATE/TIME 120001 to 142400 January 1970 and they will be identified by 5 Vietnamese flags that will be carried along, with them. At 1820hrs LNO effective now, no beer or intoxicating beverages will, not be brought to location in the field other than fire support bases. At 1821hrs Brigade 1 man from each company will attend tracker training from 1300hrs to 1500hrs at Brigade classroom on 15 January 1970. The personnel will be reporting to Battalion S-1 at 1230hrs 15 January 70 for final instructions and transportation. At 2035hrs LZ Liz IOS we have 1 stationary light at grid BS806405 and expended 8 105 artillery rounds on it. At 2139hrs LZ Liz North OP we have a target at grid BS762446. There are 4 to 5 personnel moving southwest, Negative clearance due to the Alpha 26 location. At 2140hrs IOS there are 4 to 5 blinking lights at grid BS793455 and we fired 4 rounds of 105 artillery. At 2315hrs TMF the Fire Mission on string 64 was aimed at 4 to 5 packs moving south to north. IOS confirmed the target. We called in Artillery from Montezuma, 18 rounds of 105 artillery HE, was expended and the end of Mission at 2229hrs.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0742hrs Alpha Company 06 and 27 snake have closed on LZ Liz. At 0800hrs Alpha 46 and 47 has closed on LZ Liz. At 1845hrs Alpha Company all elements is moving out, the 27 to BS735435, 46 to BS775438, 46 to BS763433, 05 to BS775438 and 26 to BS764442. At 1920hrs Alpha Company reports snake locations the 28 at BS735434, the 46 at BS763433, 05 at BS77543826 is moving to BS764442.
Bravo Company

At 0653hrs Bravo Company reports 44 and 45 elements are moving to BS791441. 0703hrs Bravo Company the 05 moving to BS779463 and the 07 element is moving to BS787450. At 0728hrs Bravo Company the 25 element is at BS787424 and the 26 element is at BS789417. At 0950hrs Bravo Company at grid BS782452 the 04 element reports that the people are putting in their belonging inside their hootch and boarding them up. They are blocking off all the trails. The people are moving out of the area. At 1045hrs Bravo Company the 07 element has closed on BS771961 they found a propaganda paper grid BS799463, which said it was trying to start racial riots between our troops. At 1050hrs Bravo Company all elements have closed on their semi permanent position. At 1340hrs Bravo Company requested Urgent Dust Off for one Vietnamese child, was hit by a dud M-79 round or booby trap M-79 round. The baby has multiple frag wounds completed at 1345hrs. Also same incident resulted in one Vietnamese KIA. The incident happened 250 meters from the Twin Ville. At 1341hrs Bravo company the 24 element with 5 PF/RF to BS815407 at 1300hrs. At 1507hrs Bravo Company the 26 element spotted 40 to 50 personnel at grid BS810420. At 1550hrs at grid BS812420 the 24 element picked up 6 Vietnamese detainees, female. Two Women one is 40 years old, and one is 13, according to Vietnamese the wife and daughter of VC Hamlet Chief. We also have 4 other women detainees and the Vietnamese said that they are taking care of them.
Charlie Company

At 0742hrs Charlie Company 44 priority Dust Off for one US with a sprained ankle Name Brown, the pick up location LZ Dragon, Dust Off completed at 0912hrs. At 0845hrs Charlie Company my Command Post has moved out to BS7830/BS7930, the 64 element will remain in the Night Defense Position. At 1205hrs Charlie Company our present location is at BS790316, we are under double canopy jungle and may request Command and Control Helicopter for observation. At 1227hrs Charlie Company we requests Command and Control Helicopter to circle his objective, he is in double canopy at grid BS797316. At 1416hrs Charlie Company in our Night Defense Position we also found a hole about 40’ deep and 4’ wide. The hole was covered with brush. There were also several old US fighting positions. The positions were around the hole. At 1515hrs one of my elements is at the base of the water tower and has found sewage ditch flowing toward the lake. We have completed the operation for today and will be moving back to BS797342. At 1640hrs Charlie Company 44 out Night Defense Position is at BS764534 our plans for tomorrow are to provide security for land clearing. At 1735hrs Charlie Company the 44 element found a 500pound bomb, booby trap, at grid BS764535. The firing device was a stick with metal to metal contact; the bomb was blown in place. At 1810hrs Charlie Company all elements have closed on BS797342. At 1923hrs Charlie Company 44 we have closed on BS764534.
Delta Company

At 0847hrs Delta Company the 24 element will sweep the area. The 64, 04 and 21 from Night Defense Position will sweep south and link up with the 24. The 44 element will sweep south from the NDP and link up with the main element. The entire element will sweep the area before splitting up Night Defense Position 25 BS699402, 05 BS702407 and 45 BS723409. At 1320hrs Delta Company tonight’s locations are 25 snake at BS699402, 05 snake at BS702407, 45 snake at BS723409. Tomorrow the entire Company will be going south, the 24 element will conduct a Recon in Force to BS703388 and the 44 will conduct a Recon in Force to BS708390. Also the 04 element will conduct a Recon in Force to BS718391 and the Night Defense Position is at BS702405. At 1321hrs Delta Company in the base camp that we found earlier at grid BS608405, there where: 7 canteens, 8 canteen cups, 3 steel pots, one gas mask (new US type), 4 homemade Chi Com grenades. There were also 3 cans of mackerel, 3 flashlights, 40 PRC 25 batteries dismantled 20 BA 30 batteries, and one-camouflaged Ho Chi Minh hats, all of which was destroyed. Delta Company reports 25-27 snakes BS699402, 06 BS702407, 45 BS763433. At 1405hrs Delta Company reports the 44 element has closed on BS703405, all elements are at this location. At 1840hrs Delta Company the 25 and 27 snakes are moving to BS699402 and the 06 snake is moving to BS702407. At 1855hrs Delta Company the 45 element is moving to BS723409. At 1945hrs Delta Company the 27 and 25 elements are at BS699402, the 06 element is at BS702407 and the 45 element is at BS723409.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0625hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Supporting Fires 16 with a total of expended 26 HE and 12 C/S rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz.
