Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0811hrs Primo 6 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter. At 0838hrs S-4 at LZ Dragon VIP received 3 M-79 rounds from Vietnamese children age 9 paid 150 Piasters. At 1125hrs RF 143 vicinity BS743686, engaged 3 VC resulting in 2 VC KIA, 1 VC WIA/CIA, CIA 1 M-4 carbine, 4 Chi Com Frag, WIA VC is 24 years old and is believed to be the Commanding Officer of C-75. At 1210hrs MACV Mo Duc vicinity BS831541, Request Urgent Dust Off for 1 VC with multiple frag wounds said to be a local VC, Dust Off completed at 1223hrs. At 1445hrs S-4 Hornet 698 is on station for re supply. At 1835hrs Brigade Box 52 approved CPT MC Cloud, do not go further south then 50 East to west grid. ARVN LRRP Team #1 800 meters south of 50 East to West grid and not in standard ARVN uniforms. Make positive identification of all suspected VC/NVA personnel. At 1855hrs MACV vicinity BS748632 request Urgent Dust Off for 1 RF who hit booby trap right leg below knee is blown off, believed to be a M-26 hand frag, RF 712 Company completed at 1910hrs. At 2215hrs Saber 40 vicinity BS8242, was scrambled in response to radar sighting at grids BS829423, BS831421, BS817428 and BS822433. As soon as Saber 40 came on station they received heavy AK 47 fire from BS822428 and BS822433. Saber 40 engaged the area. At 2240hrs Saber 40 received more fire (10 to 15 rounds) from BS822434 and engaged area with negative results. Upon Visual Recon of area Saber 40 sighted 1 large bunker with numerous entrances, also observed 9 (6’ X 3’) graves freshly dug with many fresh footprints in the area of BS826425. Saber 40 broke station at2248hrs to refuel and to rearms. 1-20 Infantry requested a 155 delay fuse Fire Mission on BS820436. At 2145hrs Charlie Company vicinity BS671578, MAT team with Charlie Company 2nd Platoon at Wood stock received report on unmentionable at BS671578. Do you have record of this? Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
March 12, 1971

Alpha Company continued to patrol their Area of Operation. At 1030hrs Alpha Company Command Post with 1st and 4th Platoon in Patrol Base at BS705421 and 2nd Platoon Patrol Base at BS723395. At 1125hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon patrol closed vicinity BS723395. At 1135hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon is moving to BS710412. At 1620hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon ambush is moving out for BS678550. At 1915hrs 2nd Platoon vicinity BS726406 en route to ambush location sighted and engaged 1 VC wearing all back with camouflaged scarf at a distance of 150 meters, results 1 VC KIA (age 30-35), 1 poncho, 2 Chi Com grenades, 1VC pack CIA. At 2025hrs Alpha Company reports night locations 2nd Platoon in location BS698530, 3rd Platoon ambush BS707549. Alpha Company Command Post with 2nd and 3rd Platoon in location BS695600 along with 1st and 4th Platoon at BS755574.

 

Bravo Company
March 12, 1971

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz.

 

Charlie Company
February 12, 1971

Charlie Company continued their patrols and ambushes in their Area of Operation. At 1049hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon patrol is moving to BS666577. At 1630hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon in location vicinity BS671558. At 1835hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon ambush changed to BS707549 with Alpha Company 1st Platoon ambush in location at BS678550. At 1835hrs Charlie Company reports that Alpha Company 1st Platoon vicinity BS673552 sighted 1 VC/NVA with weapon moving east about 500 meters away lost sight of him. At 1840hrs Charlie Company sighted vicinity BS699562, 6 personnel moving to the south towards 2nd Platoon ambush location, (moving very quickly) were unable to engage and this lost sighting. At 2145hrs Charlie Company vicinity BS671578, MAT team with Charlie Company 2nd Platoon at Wood stock received report on unmentionable at BS671578. Do you have record of this? Delta Company
February 12, 1971

At 0733hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon ambush closed on BS695600. At 0945hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon vicinity BS757575 OP Frag 5-6 VC fired 3 rounds 40mm, and 30-35 rounds semi and automatic weapons fire which included 5-60 M-60 machine gun rounds at PF position on the northeast side of OP Frag. Fire was returned, enemy broke contact immediately and evaded to the east. Distance of engagement 175-200 meters with results 2 PF 164 WIA. At 0929hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon OP Frag, request Priority Dust Off for 2 Vietnamese personnel, 1 frag to right forearms, and 2nd for gunshot wound to shoulder, Dust Off completed at 0950hrs. At 0945hrs Delta Company 3rd Platoon vicinity BS670587 while on patrol detonated a pressure release booby trap believed to be a hand grenade. Booby trap was in tall grass with results 2 US Dusted Off with multiple Frag wounds 1 lower left leg and l with wounds to the head and shoulder. At 1035hrs Delta Company 3rd Platoon UPDATE vicinity BS670587 while on patrol detonated a pressure release booby trap, believed to be a hand frag. Booby trap was in tall grass 2 US Dust Off with multiple frag wounds to lower left leg and 1 with wound to head and shoulder completed at 1030hrs Elmer G Sumsin, Ranklin D. Eustice. At 2015hrs Delta Command Post, 2nd and 3rd Platoon in location at BS695600, 1st and 4th platoon BS755574 with 2nd platoon ambush at BS693606. PFC Elmer G. Sumsin and SP4 Franklin D. Eustice (2nd Tour with Delta Company) where award Purple Hearts.

 

Echo Company
February 12, 1971

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry.
