Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0405hrs 1-20 Infantry Radar targets are as follows, at 1925hrs 8 to 10 stationary personnel were sighted at grid BS736458 and engaged with 9 HE of Artillery 155mm. At 2015hrs Radar spotted 4 to 5 stationary personnel were sighted at grid BS745431 with Delta Company informed at 2018hrs and at 2045hrs 8 to 10 were sighted at grid BS791473 and engaged with 15 HE of Artillery 105mm. At 2125hrs 8 to 10 spotted moving west at grid BS777492 and were engaged with 8 HE of Artillery 155mm. At 2150hrs 4 to 6 stationary personnel; were spotted at grid BS766444 with PPS 5 and engaged with 20 HE rounds of 81mm Mortar. At 2310hrs 4 to 6 stationary personnel were spotted at grid BS738496 and were engaged with 24 HE of Artillery 105mm and at 0050hrs 4 to 6 stationary personnel where sighted at grid BS747422 with Delta Company informed at 0100hrs. At 1543hrs Helix (FAC) 32 the Air Strike named in 57 completed. 20 each 250 pounds bombs with 80% of bomb on target box. Bomb Damage Assessment 1 trench cut and about 50 meters of trail destroyed. At 1635hrs Brigade from Major Northquist: UDT is to be brought to LZ Liz about 131030 February to coordinate with Major Neilson, 11 Brigade will furnish the ship to transport the 2 men and equipment to the location of the work. At 1915hrs 1-20 Infantry we request a mine dog for Bravo Company for their operation on the 14th. We would like to pick it up on the 13th. CPT Phillips made the request to Division and the dog is now in the 198th Light Infantry Brigade and will check again tomorrow and let us know when we can get it. At 1953hrs Radar sighted 6 to 7 stationary personnel at grid BS786470. We expended 8 HE of Artillery 105 on the target.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
February 12, 1970
At 0740hrs Alpha Company reports we are at grid BS746454. At 0817hrs Alpha Company we are on the move toward LZ Liz and at 0940hrs Alpha Company closed on LZ Liz and taken over the Security Mission for LZ Liz and by 2020hrs all snakes are in position. At 1322hr all bunkers are in good condition and all have plumb bobs Alpha Company inspected by CPT Thomas. At 2020hrs Alpha Company all snakes are in location the 46 snake is at BS767407, 07 snakes to BS762435 and BS769438, the 16 element is at BS769438 and BS777442, and 41 snakes to BS762434 and BS777442.
Bravo Company
February 12, 1970
At 0615hrs Bravo Company reports all elements have closed 08 and 46 on Bs783433. Bravo 16 closed on BS778445, 18 on BS771461, 46 on BS789417 and the 08 on BS783433. At 0718hrs Bravo Company has a Combat Assault of the Bravo 44 element from grid BS789417 to grid BS817412 and BS825415 with a PZ of 1713hrs and LZ of 1717hrs. At 0805hrs the 46 element has 4 female detainees at grid BS78333 who are suspected of re supplying the VC, they were dressed in black pajamas and about 25 years of age. None of them had ID and were detained at grid BS806423. At 0910hrs Rangers request an Urgent Dust Off for one male VC and they have one KIA Dust Off is completed at 0920hrs, BS766428. He was evading from the Rangers and did not stop when he was told to do so. We fired 3 warning shots over his head and he then started to low crawl. The Rangers engaged him and wounded him. While checking out the area we found 1 Vietnamese female KIA, age 35 with no ID and wearing black pajamas with white clothes under the pajamas. She had been shot 3 times and had been dead before the Rangers came to the area. At 1016hrs Bravo Company the 14 and 15 elements are moving out. At 1103hrs Bravo Company the 14 element has 1 male VC 17 to 18 years of age with negative ID and wearing green pants, white shirt and a green bush hat at grid BS771445. While the 14 element was making their sweep, found the VC hiding in a hedgerow at grid BS771445. At 1145hrs Bravo Company the 14 is at BS764459 and 15 is at grid BS765464. At 1208hrs Bravo Company the 14 element picked up 2 VC, 1 male age 40 with no ID and wearing black pants, blue shirt and gray sweater. Also I female, age 40 with no ID wearing black pants, and a brown shirt, detainees were turned in through MACV channels, at grid BS764459. At 1435hrs Bravo Company the 44 element is moving west to support Recon Blocking force. At 1530hrs Bravo Company the Ranger and 04 elements are moving to BS775423. At 1611hrs Bravo Company we requested an Urgent Dust Off for 1 US and 1 Kit Carson Scout, US has frag wounds to the head and Kit Carson Scout chest and head received from a Chi Com Type booby Trap. Both where from the O4 elements Line #55 and Dust Off was completed at 1620hrs grid BS778427 and another Chi Com booby trap was found and blown in place. At 1755hrs Bravo Company reports all element have closed on BS786417. At 2037hrs Bravo Company the 18 element reports 2 M-79 and small arms fire from their west. We have no casualties and possible a stray round from LZ Max at grid BS771461. Bravo Company reports SGT William L. Miles (I believe Miles spelling?) treated at Bravo 23 Medical with multiple frag wounds to both arms.
Charlie Company

At 0820hrs Charlie Company all elements have closed on 761379. At 0900hrs Guidance for plans for the 12 and 13 February 1970: Charlie Company will ambush along a line from BS722422 and southeast along the Area of Operation line (200 meters inside) to BS743375. Tomorrow Charlie will have 1 platoon each check out the following 3 grid squares: BS7341, BS7440 and BS7439. Set up a base of operations and cloverleaf having each platoon and thoroughly cover each grid square, check for 50 caliber’s position vicinity BS736415. At 1000hrs Brigade when a person is engaged or captured or who is evading or is covered by the Rules of Engagement for engaging, he will be classified as a VC not detainee, the Military Intelligence unit will reclassify the person if necessary. At 1545hrs Charlie Company the 14 element is at BS790390 and the 44 element is at BS772408. At 1607hrs Charlie Company the 44 element is at BS772408. At 1645hrs Charlie Company the 14 element is at BS780390. At 1700hrs Charlie Company have the 14 element and 44 elements move out of their position in time to move into their night Position after dark. At 1810hrs Charlie Company reports have 1 US (Bass) was dusted off by Dolphin 14 with a possible hernia, grid BS761379. (I believe it was PFC Charles Bass). At 1811hrs Charlie Company we are moving to our Night Defense Position at BS748405 and closed at BS748405. At 1955hrs Charlie Company all snakes are in location except the 14 and 16, the 04 is at BS729407, 17 at BS724419, 08 at BS726414, the 17 at BS744393, the 44 at BS748380, the 47 at BS747375 and the 48 at BS745387. At 2200rhs Charlie Company the 16 snake is at BS732402 and the 14 snake is at BS735398.
Delta Company

At 1055hrs Delta Company we are leaving Liz at this time. At 1213hrs Delta Company the 58 element is at grid BS783447. The 04 element picked up 2 male VC at grid BS764446, age 24 to 28 with negative ID and wearing black pants and a blue shirt. The VC had 6000 piasters with them the Nation Police said that they are VC. At 1300hrs Delta Company the 44 element has linked up with the Recon Platoon at BS746454. At 1410hrs Delta Company our present location is at BS746455. At 1500hrs Delta Company the 48 element is moving toward BS798378. At 1520hrs Delta Company 34 picked up one detainee at grid BS764446, she was 38 years old, wearing black, false ID, sending back to Military Intelligence. At 1946hrs Delta Company we are moving to our Night Defense Position at 1830hrs at BS741446 and the 44 element has moved out to BS722430. At 1910hrs Delta Company our Command Post is in the Night Defense Position at BS741446 and the 44 snake is moving to BS722430, the 45 snake is moving to BS723436 and the 46 snake is moving to BS726446. At 1935hrs the 15 snake is moving to BS741450, the 06 snake is moving to BS745443 and the 04 snake is moving to BS747453. At 1936hrs Delta Company the 14 element is in location at BS735448. At 2037hrs Delta Company all snakes are now in their locations.
Echo Company
February 12, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0800hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Supporting Fires 6 for a total of 12 HE were expended. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0734hrs Recon reports we are at grid BS746454. At 1150hrs Recon Platoon we picked up 1 male detainee with no ID and in good physical condition. He was wearing black pants, white shirt and blue sweater and approximately 20 years of age. We will take him to LZ Liz pick up at grid BS733448. At 1300hrs Recon Platoon and Delta Company 44 has linked up at BS746454. At 1320hrs Recon Platoon we found and blew in place a pressure type booby trap. It was found in a hootch at grid BS745466 and was a little larger than a hand frag. At 1335hrs Recon our snake locations for tonight are Little John at BS762403, Little Al at BS765404 and Robin Hood at BS768403. At 1405hrs the Combat Assault conduct by Recon Platoon from BS740455 to BS77404 and BS787405 had 1st PZ at 1406hrs and Last LZ at 1448hrs and the 1st LZ was hot Dolphin 26 went into hot LZ at BS774404, AC Pilot and Co Pilot where Dust OFF with gunshot wounds. Pilot KIA and other was WIA also Dolphin 14 took some hits. Recon element is in pursuit of the VC with weapons. At 1440hrs Recon Platoon the Robin Hood element found 1 bush hat, papers and a blood trail, we request a tracker dog team. At 1510hrs Recon we found 1 pistol belt with 2 M-26 grenades, 1 AK47 magazine fully loaded with 1 compass case and various medical supplies to include vials of serum, syringes/needles, 3 pair biceps and 1 pair of scissors. Some of the medical supplies were in 2 M16 magazines at grid BS774404. At 1555hrs Recon we picked up 2 female detainees and 1 VC child. They were hiding in a hedgerow at grid BS7744404 and had not ID. At 1950hrs Recon Platoon all elements are in location. Little Al is at BS776404, Little John is at BS780410 and Robin Hood is at BS783404. At 2012hrs Recon we are going to sweep to our locations before moving to our PZ tomorrow.
