Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0024hrs Nui Vong under a practice alert at this time. 4.2 Platoon reports Illumination rounds was fired and small arms were fired in their sectors and 100% was obtained at 0026hrs. At 0030hrs Alert terminated and was given a satisfactory by the Hill Officer in Charge. At 0145hrs Area of Operation request for Recon 111800hrs to 121200hrs August 1971 Upper Left BS7243 Lower Right BS7341, 4 ARVN (TINH), Ba To (WDP), Duc Pho (DRC). Recon will check area out today at BS733408. At 0830hrs LZ Liz reports Access Road is clear. At 0800hrs Resupply Bird on station Minuteman 1 tail # 468 is on station. At 0940hrs S-5 arrived at Duc Hai for Med Cap treated 420 Vietnamese and at 1231hrs arrived at LZ Liz grid BS738661. At 1000hrs Resupply bird went down with engine failure, no one was hurt. The crew was extracted to LZ Snoopy grid BS6271. At 1030hrs Major Gregg DSA M. D. came to LZ Liz to reaffirm the need for paperwork regarding friendly fire incident 29 July 1971and paperwork is at 11 Brigade. At 1650hrs PF 301 Platoon lost 1 PF by VC mine while on a raid at 730596. At 1651rhs 141 PF Platoon had 1 PF WIA by VC mine Dust Off requested at grid BS696558. At 2014hrs Mechanical Ambushes out: Alpha 1, Bravo 4, Delta 1 for a total of 6 out. At 2045hrs 1-20 Infantry report their Field Strength Alpha 50, Bravo 58, Delta 55, Echo 12 and HHC 7. At 2345hrs LZ Liz is on alert practice at 2347hrs reports 100% and at 2349hrs Alert is over, Officer in Charge gave satisfactory, a Kit Carson Scout popped a Red Cluster by mistake. Legend: 1st Platoon 59, 2nd Platoon 56, 3rd Platoon 89, 4th Platoon 97 and CO-29.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.
Alpha Company

At 0713hrs Alpha Company is moving to their Patrol Base at BS687455 and closed on that location at 0730hrs. At 0822hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon has an OP at BS687455 and at 0830hrs 1st Platoon is at BS688456 and 2nd Platoon is located at BS684455. At 1929hrs Alpha Company 1st and 2nd Platoon along with the Command Post is in their Night Defense Position at BS687453 with 1 Mechanical Ambush out.
Bravo Company

At 0024hrs Nui Vong under a practice alert at this time. Alert was given a satisfactory by Hill Officer in Charge. At 0740hrs Bravo Company Patrol Base is located at BS657505 and at 0915hrs Patrol is at BS653502. At 1635hrs Bravo Company is located at BS645502 and at 1915hrs closed on BS657505. At 2050hrs Bravo Company closed on their Night Defense Position at BS648503.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz.
Delta Company
August 12, 1971
At 0716hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon is moving to BS658493. At 1008hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon has closed on location and now head to their Patrol Base at BS657493. At 1110hrs Delta Company LZ/PZ/ Patrol Base is at BS657493. At 1637hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon moving out to BS661491 and at 1821hrs the rest of the Company is moving to their Night Defense Position at BS659493. At 1928hrs Delta Company 1st and 2nd Platoon with Command Post closed on their Night Defense Position.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0725hrs Recon element has closed on LZ Liz.
