Headquarters and Headquarter Company
August 12, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
August 12, 1968

At 0810hrs Alpha Company location at BS836315 and at 1401hrs Alpha Company found a tunnel 10’ long and 3’ high and 3’ wide and destroyed. At 1445hrs Alpha Company at BS823308 detained 5 VCS females evading evac to LZ Bronco for questioning. At 1830hrs Alpha Company Night Defense Position location is at BS820320 with ambushes at BS818332, BS817322, BS829321 and BS864290. At 1904hrs Alpha Company at BS819336 observed 4 VC in black PF with packs, called in artillery are moving to check out area, negative finding.

 

Bravo Company
August 12, 1968

At 0605hrs Bravo Company at BS844288 engaged 2 VC evading, results, 2 VC KIA, age 22-25, The VC’s one was wearing black and other gray uniform 2 Chi Com hand grenade, 1 AK 47 #12095125 CIA. At 1155hrs Bravo Company is located at BS839299 and at 1231hrs Bravo Company at BS833287 observed 1 male come out of the mountains and go into a village. He went from house to house left the village with 10 other males and headed back to into the mountains and started a meeting. Bravo Company checked people out with negative results, and at 1428hrs Bravo Company detained 4 female evading, one age 26, 2 approximately 20 years old evac to LZ Bronco for questioning. At 1606hrs Bravo Company at BS812301 detained 1 VCS man and had pack strap marks on his shoulders. At 1830hrs Bravo Company at BS812301 with ambushes at BS812308, BS828309, BS829301 and BS836292.

 

Charlie Company
August 12, 1968

At 0120hrs Charlie Company on LZ Thunder at BS884325, search light personnel spotted several personnel moved into hedgerow, fired 81mm mortar with the flare ship adjusting, with negative assessment. At 0529hrs Charlie Company at BS872323, LZ Thunder individual going out to pick up claymore went off and he received burns and a few frag, condition was good, Dust Off completed at 0548hrs. Don’t know what detonated the claymore will try and find the problem. At 0907hrs Charlie Company and tracker dogs found a hooch’s with documents, 1 red flag with hammer and sickle and rice. Found another hooch’s in same area with more rice, clothing, documents and unknown number of rounds for a M-1 carbine. At 1830hrs Charlie Company at LZ Thunder with the Security Mission for the LZ and with an ambush at BS776353.

 

Delta Company
August 12, 1968

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Charlie Brown. At 1830hrs Delta Company establish their ambushes at BS890260, BS893235, BS933258, BS924256 and 10 LP at BS932221.

 

Echo Company
August 12, 1968

Echo Company is located at LZ Thunder where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Thunder. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Thunder where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). At 0743hrs 1-20 Infantry reports new pick up site for Recon Platoon at BS746286 and at 0810hrs report their location at BS745284. At 1050hrs 1-20 Infantry extracted from BS745285 to LZ Bronco, 1st Lift TD at 1032hrs and 2nd Lift TD at 1047hrs with lift completed.
