Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 1616hrs A Troop we are moving to the west. At 0745hrs A Troop the 26 element found 3 metal cans at BS792468, 6 mortar fuses, 10 shotgun type mortar lighters and 20 cheese type mortar chargers were in the cans and blown in place. The 41 element has 2 male detainees, 13 to 15 years old and dressed in blue shirt and shorts. They have Students ID but the Kit Carson Scout wants to send them in. At 1134hrs A Troop the 26 found and blew in place a mortar round and 2 105mm rounds at BS827450. At 1730hrs A Troop and Recon we have linked up at BS820425. At 1741hrs 1-20 Infantry the insertion of the sniper is completed. At 1800hrs the sniper team requests an urgent Dust Off for SGT Prieto and SGT Galehouse we have Multiple Frag Wounds from a booby trap. The WIA will be evac to Chu Lai at grid BS780366 completed at 1815hrs. The Dust Off ship reports, seeing an undetermined number of personnel moving up the mountain near Dust Off location. The WIA equipment was brought to LZ Liz.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
April 12, 1970
Alpha Company continued to use same Day Logger with multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0640hrs Alpha Company requests a priority Dust Off for 2 (US) with high fever (line #J2573 and A 7597), completed at 0727hrs. At 0824hrs Alpha Company elements have reached the Access Road and the 05 element is at Check Point 2 grid BS762414. At 0924hrs Alpha Company are moving out for our Night Defense Position to LZ Liz. At 0935hrs Alpha Company found a tunnel at BS776479 with negative finding inside, the 65 element will blow the tunnel. At 1005hrs Alpha Company we are at bottom of LZ Liz, and as Alpha Company closed on LZ Liz they take over the Security Mission for LZ Liz.
Bravo Company
April 12, 1970
At 0130hrs Bravo Company 41 element received 2 rounds of sniper fire from the suspected enemy gird at BS776438 and engaged with small arms fire with unknown results. At 0300hrs Bravo Company the 65 element received small arms fire and B 40 rockets at BS791435. We engaged with small arms fire and 4.2 Mortar fire with no casualties or damage and the Command Post also received 10 rounds of small arms fire from their south at approximately 300 meters, we respond with small arms fire, again negative casualties or damage. At 0617hrs Bravo Company 43 element while moving toward a hedgerow heard talking and engaged with hand frag resulting in one AK CIA. The 43 element also found 1 booby trap 60mm round with a trip wire attached. At 0720hrs Bravo Company 43 element followed a blood trail and found a bunker with 3 people inside at BS766469. The 43 element talked the people out of the bunker. Two were males, age 20 years, and the other a female 21, was KIA. The males were dressed in blue on green, medical supplies and documents were also found in bunker. These people were engaged earlier by the 43 element and will be sent back thru MACV channels. They also found 20’ of detonate cord at BS779481, which they destroy in place. At 0819hrs Bravo Company in checking out the area where the 181 PF sprung their ambush at 2250hrs last night the following was found, 1 VC KIA and 1 VC WIA who died after being found. Also found one pistol of unknown caliber, one AK 47 and 3 to AK 47 magazines at grid BS799391.
Charlie Company

At 0716hrs Charlie Company 41 element picked up two boys 13-15 and dressed in blue shirts and shorts with ID at BS747470. Kit Carson Scout wanted to send boys in, but they were later released. At 0749hrs Charlie Company 61 element found 400 to 500 pounds of rice near their Night Defense Position at BS724435, and requested sandbags for pick up. At 1010hrs Charlie Company set up their Day Logger at BS738438 with the 81 elements is searching and clearing the area at BS738438. The 41 element is at BS749468 and the 61 element is working at BS720430. At 1900hrs Charlie Company the 01 and 02 elements combine at BS738436 with Command Post, 41 and 81 elements at BS735433. At 1910hrs Charlie Company 41 element received 5-6 rounds of sniper fire from 700 to 800 meters to the northwest at BS734479. We had negative casualties and are calling in 4.2 mortar on the area we have unknown results and checked out the area with negative finding at grid BS479471. At 1936hrs Charlie Company elements are in location except for the 42, 05a, and 05b.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued with their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 1902hrs Delta Company Access Road roving element is in position.
Echo Company
April 12, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 4.2 Platoon reports Supporting Fires 5, Observed Mission 8 for a total expended of 16 HE and 53 Illumination rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0806hrs Recon Platoon our present location is at BS826413. At 0941hrs Recon Platoon the 61 snake will be at BS823436, the 64 snake will be at BS814413 and the 63 snake will be at BS814405, we are moving to our Day Logger at BS821423. At 1025hrs Recon Platoon has closed on our Day Logger at BS821423. At 1730hrs A Troop and Recon we have linked up at BS820425. At 1741hrs 1-20 Infantry the insertion of the sniper is completed.
