Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0210hrs 76C radar set just went out, said he will check in the morning to see just what is wrong, can not check now, because of the darkness. At 76C Pipsy 5 radar set is down for maintenance, azimuth indicator doesn’t work. At 0920hrs MACV Mo Duc, 110530hrs November PF 157 had contact vicinity BS731500, results 1 VC KIA, 1 AK 47 CIA. Also PF 260 had contact when they conducted a raid in vicinity BS745485, results 1 VC KIA, 1 M-16 CIA, M-16 # 1462913, VCI, 1 was VC negative equipment. At 1225hrs 1-20 Infantry S-4 Resupply ship is on station. At 1350hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Helix 34 is on station for Visual Recon. He says most of our Area of Operation is socked in. He will look for a break in the clouds, and check that area. At 1458hrs Helix 34 is breaking station at this time. At 1-20 Infantry reports Primo 2 on station for 1 hour Visual Recon. At 1630hrs Primo 2 is breaking station at this time. At 1915hrs 1-20 Infantry requests Are of Operation extension Date/Time/Grid 121800hrs to 162400hrs November 1970 from BS660550 to BS660520 to BS680520 to BS680550 Purpose: Combat Operations. Legend 1st Platoon 12-18, 2nd Platoon 62-68, 3rd Platoon 82-88, 4th 32-38 and CO 44.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company

Alpha Company has moved to LZ Bronco for training (Stand Down).

 

Bravo Company
November 11, 1970

At 0200hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon is moving to Patrol Base at BS769546. At 0702hrs Bravo Company at BS755550 2nd and 4th Platoon received incoming M-79 rounds. 2 rounds landed approximately 100 meters to the south of their location, also received about 4 small arms rounds of fire. Saw 1 male Caucasian evaded are requesting a tracker dog rounds came from 200 meters to their north. Bravo Company at BS753558, 2nd Platoon had Primo 4 is Dusting Off, 1 US who had frag wounds to the face. Received them when 1 enemy in a bunker threw a frag at them (William E. Savage) was Dust Off at 0821hrs, Bravo Company 2nd Platoon on a patrol near Don Luong at BS753558, sighted I enemy with weapon. Enemy evaded into a secret hole, the patrol chased him, found the hole. The Platoon Sgt. went into the hole and shot up the enemy, enemy threw a hand frag at US personnel causing minor wounds to 3 US, search is continuing. Results: 1 enemy KIA Rucksack, documents, pistol belt, 1 hand frag, cloths, rice and an AK 47 round in a soap dish, 1 Dust Off Completed at 0821hrs and 2nd Dust Off completed at 0959hrs. The 2 minor frag wounds Even and Goins. Bravo Company 2nd Platoon has 6 (female) detainees, 4 of which where dressed in all back and negative ID, ages 18-61. At 1600hrs Reference spot for 0745hrs spotting male Caucasian who was wearing black top, blue bottoms, no hat, blond hair, and was spotted 300 meters to the west. Bravo Company on the way to their Night Defense Position found 1 VC female KIA from their earlier contact today at BS750577, she had negative pack or weapons and Bravo Company says that they believe she was the blood trail they were following. The also picked up one female detainee at the same grid, age 45-50 with negative ID with back haul tomorrow and I male detainee 14-15 age, negative ID. Bravo Company has multiple ambushes tonight. Bravo Company reports SP4 Lloyd E. Even with multiple frag wounds right leg and right arm, PFC Bruce Goins with frag wound left leg and SSGT William E. Savage with Frag Wound face (record) and left shoulder all evac to B 23 Medical.

 

Charlie Company
November 11, 1970

At 0727 Charles Company closed on their Day Logger at 12-BS664564, 62-BS665575 and 32-676564. At 1145hrs Charlie Company at BS677562, 3rd Platoon found 1 anti-personnel mine with fins at junction of a trail, not booby trap. Also at BS677561, they found 1 (155mm ill dud), both rounds were blown in place. No nomenclature on mine, it was too old, antipersonnel mine had small round type of pressure device 3" in diameter. Believe it was a US made main explosive was similar to a tin can. At 1700hrs Charlie Company at BS648574, 2nd Platoon while on patrol vicinity BS648574 had their Scout Dog alert. They proceed to use Recon the Area by fire and then checked it out with negative findings. At 1730hrs 3rd Platoon found 1 dud 105mm Artillery round vicinity BS679566, it was not bobby trap, destroyed in place. At 1750hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon while on patrol at BS680568 found 1 small mackrel can full of Petna. No firing device or trip wire. It was located in an APC track, and appears to have been run over by the APC. It was quite old and was blown in place. At 1847hrs Charlie Company on the way to their Night Defense Position saw 1 personnel who had been observing them most of the day, call Artillery on him and his location. At 1905hrs Charlie Company 12, 32 and 44 in their location BS656558, 62 at BS655574, 82 at BS676564, 16 at BS661555 and 86 at BS678557.

 

Delta Company

Delta Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Liz.

 

Echo Company
November 11, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for the 1-20 Infantry.
