Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0345hrs Radar on the North OP sighted 2 to 3 stationary personnel at BS758441 with negative clearance due to build up area. At 0435hrs Radar sighted 1 to 5 stationary personnel at BS727403 and engaged with 20 HE of Artillery 155mm and at 0125hrs 8 to 10 stationary personnel were sighted at BS715437 and engaged with 12 VT of Artillery 155mm. At 0430hrs Radar sighted at BS770487 1 to 5 stationary personnel and engaged with 12 HE of Artillery 155mm. At 0735hrs Alpha Company we are moving to our working location with the 26 Engineer. At 0845hrs Charlie Company 26 Engineer Mine Sweep Team at grid BS768438 found a PRC 25 battery hooked up to a small amount of explosives buried in the ground on the south side of the Access Road. The Battery sat on top of the explosive and when blown it made a hole 1’ by 1 ½’. At 1010hrs Helix (FAC) Helix 37 is putting in an Air Strike into BS680490. At 1730hrs Charlie Company 26 Engineer a total of 27 hours were worked clearing 49 acres at BS753603, BS755603, BS750615 and BS750616. We had 1 explosion in fire from an unknown type round, we destroyed 1 rocket, 28" lone, 13’ head and 4 ½ " in diameter with 8 holes in the rear with 4 empty. Also 400 gallons of fuel were used, 3 pounds of C-4 were used with 3 D7 operational and 1 D7 was a track blown off and 1 D7 with a bad radiator, 1 CEV operational and 1 CEV deadline with poor oil lines. At 1935hrs South OP we request an urgent Dust Off for 1 US with lacerations of the face and powder burns to the eyes. These injuries were a result of a cook off of a M-60. Line #838 Name McHenry Larry and completed at 1944hrs at grid BS755424 (believe to be from Charlie Company).

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. S-4 1-20 infantry TOC 81mm ammo HE M374 #LS-31-49, has been suspended.

 

Alpha Company
June 11, 1970

Alpha Company again get an early start on patrolling today and at 1005hrs, Alpha Company 15, 16, 17 elements have linked up at BS765416 for a Cordon and Search operation and by 1100hrs the operation is completed with negative finding (The village was disserted). At 1620hrs Alpha Company we are moving to our Night Defense Position at BS752400 and at 2000hrs Alpha Company reports all patrols have closed.

 

Bravo Company
June 11, 1970

At 0055hrs Bravo Company 16 element sprung their ambush on 2 VC at BS813440 whom was moving west to east VC evaded to the east. The 16 element found a blood trail and we followed a trail to the river and lost it there, will check in morning. At 0636hrs the 97 element is blocking at BS778462 and 15-16 element have lined up and checking the area of last night contact with negative finding. At 1015hrs the 57 element found and blew in place a dud 155mm round at BS785377. At 1958hrs Bravo Company we requests an urgent Dust Off for 2 US with multiple frag wounds of the legs, back, face resulting from a booby trap hand frag grenade (M67) and had a trip wire firing device with trip wire (Claude Fischer, Fred Newman) at BS804446. Bravo Company reports that SGT Frederick R. Newman Multiple frag wounds both legs, both arms and face and SP4 Claude L. Fischer with multiple frag wound left elbow and back where evac to 91st Evac Hospital.

 

Charlie Company
June 11, 1970

At 0433hrs Charlie Company the 53 element on their search mission went up on side and down the other side of the mountain and found blood trails, poncho liners, and etc, we fill give a full report later. At 1120hrs Charlie Company we request a routine Dust Off for 2 US who are heat casualties, line number 131-576 (Warner and Shubert) completed 1156hrs. At 1315hrs Charlie Company we request a routine Dust Off for 1 US with a sprained ankle, line #087. Complete vicinity BS675513 at 1300hrs. At 1315hrs we have one VC/NVA KIA dressed in green uniform and with one 7.62 RPD Machine Gun in good condition. He was killed by Air Strike at BS684506. At 1500hrs Charlie Company 53 element has found one Chi Com grenade was not booby trap vicinity BS687510, it was destroyed. At 1650hrs the Charlie Company reports elements locations 13 BS677510, 93-92 Night Defense Position vicinity BS681511 and 53 Night Defense Position BS684513. At 1730hrs Charlie Company the 93 element is at BS685505. At 2055hrs Charlie Company we have closed on our Night Defense Position at BS681511. Charlie Company reports Larry H. Mc Henry Charlie Company with classified as misc to 27 Surgical with powder burns, face and both eyes was reclassified as SHIFT on June 13, 1970.

 

Delta Company
June 11, 1970

Delta Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Liz, also Access Road security.

 

Echo Company
June 11, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 4.2 Platoon reports Fire Mission 1 for a total expended of 10 HE rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0547hrs Recon Platoon at 0530hrs the 15 element sprung their ambush on 1 VC and engaged at 25 meters to their south. In checking the area we found 1 VC KIA, age 25 wearing a green top and black bottom with no weapon or documents with no ID, at grid BS741618. There was no return fire and will check out the area further at first light and at 0630hrs negative findings. At 0610hrs Recon the 13 and 14 elements are moving toward the Recon 15 element location at BS778462. At 0652hrs Recon Platoon our Day Logger and present location is at BS735616. At 2000hrs Recon Platoon reports all snakes are in location the 13 snake is at BS728607, the 14 snake is at BS731608 and the 15 snake is at BS732596.
