At 0745hrs Brigade 10 October 1970 to 0700hrs to 2100hrs severe thunderstorms, visibility, ½ mile, winds up to 15 Knots, gusting to 35 knots. At 1045hrs Brigade received word from CPT Mullin at 0950hrs that Nighthawk is approved and will be on LZ Liz night of 10 and 11 October 1970. At 1515hrs Brigade Area of Operation extension B60 has been disapproved by Warrant Officer D. E. At 1525hrs S-5 at LZ Dragon paid 2,000 Piasters to 7 Vietnamese children ages 11-15 for following items, 10 60mm rounds, 2 M-32 frag, 7 M-79 rounds, 1 81mm HE, destroyed all items in place. At 1405hrs 77 Yankee is in location at bridge at BS684657. At 1800hrs 1-20 Infantry request B 52 be extended to Date/Time/Grid 202400hrs October 1970. At 1110hrs 1-20 Infantry Area of Operation extension 4-21 Infantry Delta Company ASAP 152400hrs October 1970 to BS7237 to BS7438 to BS7638 to BS7635 to BS7435 approved AEP III. At 2025hrs 1-20 Infantry 122400hrs Area of Operation Extension 60 changed to 63 approved CPT Can. At 2038hrs Blue Ghost 49 at BS827440 scrambled at 2038hrs, spotted 1 campfire near the beach with no hootches in the area. Granted clearance at BS835435, engaged target with 1500 rounds, have 2 possible KIA. Delta Company 54 going out to check out the area. Warlord 38 is on station at 2105hrs to pick up the 54 element 1. PZ 2113hrs with LZ at 2127hrs, checkout the area and found some footprints, but otherwise negative findings, Extraction PZ 2140hrs LZ on LZ Liz at 2157hrs. At 2200hrs 1-20 Infantry Area of Operation extension about 43 grid line until 110600 October 1970, 4-21 Infantry approved CPT Whitaker Brigade TOC 2130hrs. At 2225hrs Blue Ghost 49 scrambled for BS797436, checked the area with negative findings. At 2245hrs TMF at 2212hrs S-67B 4 to 5 personnel moving southwest to northeast 3 miles per hour negative metal confirmation, engaged at 2238hrs with 6 VT rounds 105 Artillery. At 2300hrs Brigade new Mission for Blue Ghost in addition to 4-21 Infantry, 3-1 Infantry BOX SP BS442740 along river to BS550764 to BS550740 back to start, North bank of river is the boundary. At 2315hrs Blue Ghost 49 is unable to fly mission (Nighthawk boxes for 4-21 and 3-1 Infantry) because of socked in weather and heavy rain from base of mountains due West. This was sent to CPT Whittaker. Legend: 1st Platoon 54-59, 2nd Platoon 84-89, 3rd Platoon 34-39, 4th Platoon 04-09 and CO 12.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

At 1200hrs Alpha Company has 10 female detainees with negative ID will send to Military Intelligence also the Nation Police found ammo can full of VC pay records, Nation Police will take them to Mo Duc. At 1751hrs Alpha Company the 12 element is moving to Night Defense Position at BS752568. Alpha Company 84 and 54 elements is in location at BS740568. Alpha Company reports 55 Rat moving out for BS739568, and 85 Rat moving out for BS742565. At 1929hrs Alpha Company (BS754566) interpreter detained 2 female, VC at BS752563 and best time to catch these at this time to the above grid and check it out. At 2115hrs Alpha Company 35 is entering perimeter at BS752568. By 2300hrs all Recon in Force Patrols are all closed on Night Defense Position.

Charlie Company

At 0510hrs Charlie Company 12 element at BS689585 heard sticks being hit together outside their Night Defense Position, on 3 sides of their perimeter sent out 2 patrols they frag the suspected area, negative findings, searched again in the morning with negative findings. At 0658hrs Charlie Company 12 and 34 patrol base in location at BS690584. At 1105hrs Charlie Company 54 element at BS671605 detained 1 male 45, no ID, extracted to LZ Liz. At 1425hrs Charlie Company 34 at BS681581 found 8 hootches and 11 bunkers, were 15’X 20’. At 1700hrs Charlie Company 12, 04 and 34 elements is now moving out for BS684580. At 1800hrs Charlie Company Urgent Dust Off at BS680575 1 US heat exhaustion completed at 1815hrs. At 1938hrs Charlie Company reports all elements in location at the following CP BS676576, 54 at BS667603, 84 BS669575, 36 BS681576, 56 at BS671606 and 86 at BS666577.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz At 2038hrs Blue Ghost 49 at BS827440 scrambled at 2038hrs, spotted 1 campfire near the beach with no hootches in the area. Granted clearance at BS835435, engaged target with 1500 rounds, have 2 possible KIA. Delta Company 54 going out to check out the area. Warlord 38 is on station at 2105hrs to pick up the 54 element 1. PZ 2113hrs with LZ at 2127hrs, checkout the area and found some footprints, but otherwise had negative findings, Extraction PZ 2140hrs LZ on LZ Liz at 2157hrs.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0645hrs Recon element linked up, ready for detainees extraction with 1 US captured weapon and equipment, sending a patrol into the previous area of contact. At 0715hrs Recon Platoon reports Dolphin is now extracting detainees to Military Intelligence. At 0730hrs Recon Platoon in checking out contact area found 1 KIA, and a small part of a AK-47, a piece of sheet metal 8’ long and 1" wide, fits on top of weapon, will back haul clothes to Military Intelligence. At 0930hrs Recon Platoon closed on LZ Liz. At 1055hrs Recon 03 and 68 is going into Recon Contact area to look for a VC WIA in the vicinity of BS751472. At 1330hrs add on to Recon Operation Update the Battalion S-2 and S-5 went to the Ville Recon was in and found 1 AK-47 with folding stock and 3 magazines, 1 AK destroyed, found 1 body that was shot by LUC LONG 66 (BONG). The Recon SGT reported that a sniper # 68 engaged 1 VC at 50 meters south fired 4 shots, saw the VC fall, but could not find the body. The S-2 and S-5 found the spot he was engaged and a blood trail, villagers say VC carried 1 that was wounded in the leg, out of the Ville, this morning.
