Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0108hrs Saber 40 into NH Box 61 broke station at 0133hrs with negative findings. At 0230hrs LZ Liz Bunker Line Inspection: Bunkers # 6 satisfactory, # 5 satisfactory, # 7 satisfactory and # 8 has no one is manning the bunker. At 0840hrs Warlord 16 is on station for Box 51. At 0952hrs Warlord 16 reports at grid BS594515 an active .51caliber position, 1 ship took several hits (80- 90 knots 1,000’) Helix is on station for Air Strike into area. At 1120hrs To Brigade from 1-20 Infantry S-3 requests estimated termination date of 4-4 ARVN Operation west of LZ Liz this unit desires to conduct operation in grid BS6445, BS6945, BS6941, BS6445 Operation 16 May 1971. At 1135hrs Notified by NCS of charge in resupply procedures (lists will be sent in via radio). At 1210hrs 4-4 ARVN will be in Area of Operation Upper left BS6445 and Lower right BS6941 until 17 May 1971. At 1220hrs TO Bravo Company from S3 extraction of Recon Platoon 111300 May from BS675514 to LZ Liz, 1 AMC, 2 guns, 3 slicks, and frequency for Combat Assault is A/G. At 1300hrs 1-20 Infantry Dolphin 19 is on station for resupply. At 1655hrs 4-4 ARVN is combat assaulting to BS588538, BS577516, BS596498, and BS613498 in reaction to an active .51caliber pit at which 2 LOH were shot down. Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company used Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0750hrs Bravo Company 3rd Platoon ambushed has closed on their Night Defense Position at BS745384, will use as our Patrol Base. At 0911hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon found an old diversion or spillway at grid BS720385, 50 meters long 10 meters wide with 6 meters high on the north end, the south was worn away with area bricked in and entire structure runs north to south. At 0940hrs Alpha Company remaining in Command Post until further notice at BS720385 and they swept the area. At 1802hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon while in Patrol Base had 3 elderly Vietnamese males come near the Patrol Base 200 meters to the east, they had ID, gave the following information. The VC that sniped at the 3rd Platoon yesterday were staying in the An Tay abandoned village. Alpha Company requests 1 click Area of Operation extension to the east to check out the village. At 2146hrs Alpha Company all elements in their Night Defense Position 3rd Platoon at BS749381, 3rd Platoon ambush at BS742372, 2nd Platoon at BS725386 and Command Post, 1st and 4th Platoon at BS737384 with 9 Mechanical Ambush out.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company used Patrol Bases and multiple Patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0615hrs Bravo Company 3rd Platoon at BS690512 had a Mechanical Ambush detonate, are checking the area at this time. At 0630hrs received fire called in Artillery Fire Mission fire at 0650hrs total 22 HE 105 and 1 WP had suspected movement to east at above grid. At 0700hrs patrol moving to check area hit a booby trap at 0715hrs Bravo Company at BS694513 requested Urgent Dust Off for 2 US 1 with sucking chest wound and 1 with multiple frag wounds to legs caused by booby trap, Booby trap 300 meters northeast of where Mechanical Ambush went off (BS690512). Booby trap was a hand frag, wine from a trip wire, and was freshly planted (1-2 days old) 5 people had gone by the booby trap before it was detonated. When booby trap detonated element saw 1 person about 25 meters to their south evading, engaged with small arms and M-60 fire negative finding. KHA Line # Quivoz, Alex, WHA line #R7241, Rowe, Larry ETA 15 minutes Bird #88 Dust Off completed at 0731hrs. At 0750hrs Bravo Company 3rd Platoon ambush closed on BS745384. At 0915hrs Bravo Company Command Post and 2nd and 4th Platoon Patrol Base is at BS665515. At 1012hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon with 26th Engineers found 1 booby trap at grid BS678478, 60mm mortar round with trip wire device in hedgerow was blown in place. At 1030hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon and 26th Engineer report taking sporadic sniper fire from grid BS678580, approximately 200 meters to the north of when they found the booby trap at BS678578 and element pulling back to call in Fire Mission. At 1141hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon and 26 Engineer found a booby trap at BS690583, was a 105mm round tying on the left side of a trail. It had a tripwire and firing device was blown in place. At 1235hrs Bravo Company 3rd Platoon while checking out area of Mechanical Ambush that went off, found some fresh footprints and small amount of blood trail, vicinity BS690512. At 1241hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon and Engineers found 1 set of black pajamas and green uniform vicinity BS698584 and have 1 female detainee 21 years old, negative ID, wearing black on Blue found her at BS699586. At 1930hrs Bravo Company 2nd Platoon heard an explosion at gird BS663503, this was near where they had a Mechanical Ambush they immediately went to check the area with 1 round of illumination (105). Their Mechanical Ambush was intact and the explosion was approximately 100 to 250 meters to the west of location and they engaged the area with small arms fire, will check at first lights. At 245hrs Bravo Company location Command Post, 2nd and 4th Platoon at BS668508, 3rd Platoon at BS697506, and 1st Platoon at Nui Vong and Company has 4 Mechanical Ambush out. SP4 ALEXANDER QUIROZ IS LISTED AS KHA. Bravo Company reports that SP4 Larry D. Rowe was evac to the 91st Evac Hospital.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company continued to use Patrol Bases and multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0745hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon patrol is moving to BS699453. At 2121hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon ambush at BS712455, Command Post and 3rd Platoon Night Defense Position at BS712457, 1st Platoon at BS725416, 1st Platoon ambush at BS722416, 2nd Platoon at BS707448, 2nd Platoon ambush at BS700452 and 2nd Platoon ambush at BS713451 with 5 Mechanical Ambush out. At 2237hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon had a trip flare go off at BS722419, approximately 500 meters and due north from Night Defense Position, engaged area with claymore and M-60, 4.2 Illumination fired, and at 2246hrs began sweep, found tracks evading north, negative further, will sweep at first light again.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0230hrs LZ Liz Bunker line inspection Bunker #6 satisfactory, # 5 satisfactory, #7 satisfactory and # 8 with no one is manning the bunker. At 0750hrs LZ Liz access road is clear at this time. At 2145hrs LZ Liz Bunker line inspection 5, 4, 3, 1, 16 and 17 negative deficiencies with the exception for bunker 15 that had no one on it at 2206hrs.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 1240hrs Recon all elements in Patrol ambush location at BS679508. At 2012hrs Recon element is in Night Defense Position at BS676513. At 2046hrs 1-20 Infantry Radar North OP picked up 5 to 10 VC/NVA with packs and weapons moving East at vicinity BS737437 and continued to follow these personnel to Ville vicinity BS747437 where the VC/NVA took the civilians out of their hootches. At 2055hrs the 5 to 10 VC/NVA ran to vicinity grid BS752443. At 2100hrs the 5 to 10 VC/NVA moved to vicinity grid BS745444 and are stationary, at 2124hrs 5 to 10 (VC/NVA) have moved to BS745446. At 2200hrs Saber Black is on station to work NH Box 62, broke station at BS2227hrs was in wrong Box Black had grids for old Box 62. At 2145hrs LZ Liz Bunker bunkers #5, 4, 2, 1, 17, 16, and 15 revealed negative deficiencies with the exception for # 15 that had no one on it at 2206hrs.
