Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0020hrs Modified Air Calvary Box 51 DATE/TME/GRID 100630hrs to 100830hrs August 1970 as follows- BS6058 to BS6560 to BS6860 to BS6860 to BS6858 to BS6457 to BS6355 to BS6055 to start, cleared with 4 ARVN (MINH). At 0525hrs Nghia Hanh Box 52 has been changed to BS6859 along the Son Ve River to 615k, 1,000 meters on both side. Change went into effect afternoon of Day 9 August 1970. At 0650hrs Resupply bird is on station, call sign Robin 21. At 0705hrs Clearance Naval Fire Boxes, DATE/TIME/GRID 100800hrs to 101800hrs August 1970, Upper Left BS7949 to lower right BS8146. 1-20 Infantry (SMH), RF, 103, Mo Duc, Duc Pho, 4 ARVN (MINH), Upper Left BS7557, Lower Right BS7950. 1-20 Infantry (SMH), Mo Doc (WW), 4 ARVN (MINH), Upper Left BS7652 Lower Right BS7750, 1-20 Infantry (SNH), Mo Duc (WW), RF 103, MACV, 4 ARVN (MINH) Upper Left BS8143 Lower Right BS8440 D.A.C. Negative Code II. At 0830hrs LZ Liz Road cleared by mine sweepers and pressure truck. In regards to the AGI held at LZ Liz today, the following report can be submitted at this time. IG departed 1030hrs and seemed very pleased. All major areas inspected appeared to receive either excellent or satisfactory. Exact results unknown since many inspectors were noncommittal: S-3 area excellent, S-2 excellent or satisfactory in all areas, SAEDA may have some deficiencies, but is being re inspected at this time. Safety-Ammo-Fire only minor faults were noted: 1 bad fire extinguisher and 4.2 ammo areas needs DA label 85, But Division is aware they unable available now. Mess Hall Refrigeration equipment problems were noted, but was noted that everything possible was being done by 1-20 Infantry to solve the problem. Sanitation- no faults noted. Perimeter no faults noted- long grass was mentioned by IG did comment that it was his observation that diligent work was continuing to burn off grass by 1-20 Infantry personnel. At 1500hrs 1-20 Infantry is currently investigating the possibility of some erroneous data being fired by 4.2 Mortars scheduled fires off Nui Vong this morning, full report will follow-negative casualties of damage. At 1507hrs Beware that General Mc Dongh is in the area. At 1800hrs 53 vehicles in and out today were inspected. At 1804hrs 4-4 ARVN Battalion found weapons cache, 1 Thompson machinegun, 2 60mm mortar with base plates and aiming device, and 1 German Large machinegun. At 1840hrs To Battalion Commander the New Alpha Company 1-20 Infantry Area of Operation Upper Left BS6447 Lower Right BS6842, Alpha to move to box tomorrow. At 1845hrs 7 bunkers were inspected at Nui Vong today. At 1-20 Infantry reports at1903hrs Access Road is closed. At 2036hrs CE/ Combat Assault for Alpha and Charlie Companies 1-20 Infantry 1st PZ at 1015hrs birds 5-2-1. At 2110hrs Message to Colonel Que from Colonel Goodwin: understand Combat Assault force not available for insertion of 1 Company from the (1-4 ARVN) Battalion to new Area of Operation, question Do you plan to walk company off Red Dragon in to the Area of Operation. Reply from Bronco Dust Officer: he (Colonel Que) said 1-4 ARVN will not walk off Dragon they will stay there. At 2120hrs Message from T 29 to Wasp 29 request an extension for the assigned Area of Operation 2 Kilometers to east to allow an LZ larger then 1 ship. Desired Area of Operation would be Upper Left BS6446, Lower Right BS7042, Proposed LZ would then be BS690453. At 2124hrs Field Strength report of 1-20 Infantry Bravo 61, Charlie 49, Delta 53, Echo 12 and HHC 9. Legend: 1st Platoon 59, 2nd Platoon 56, 3rd Platoon 89, 4th Platoon 97, CO-29.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 1100hrs in regards to the AGI Inspection at LZ Liz Today, IG departed at 1030hrs and seemed very please, all major area inspected appeared to received excellent or satisfactory at LZ Liz. At 1840hrs to 1-20 Infantry Command the New Alpha Company Area of Operation Upper BS6447 and lower right BS6842, Alpha 1-20 to move to box tomorrow.
Bravo Company

At 0729hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon is at grid BS647499 and moved to BS647495 to find a LZ. At 1130hrs Bravo Company 1st platoon closed on BS644499 and at 1425hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon is moving to Patrol Base at BS650500 and at 1620rhs Bravo Company requested Urgent Dust Off fro 1 US with heat stroke SP4 Gary A. Lane, Dust Off 59 completed at 1700hrs. Bravo Company at 1959hrs closed on night Defense Position at BS646503 with a Field Strength Bravo Company 61.
Charlie Company

At 0755hrs Charlie Company in their Patrol Base found a #303 can of Petna approximately 6 months old, can’t see size, no tripwire and will blow in place. At 0835hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon and Command Post are at BS666494 and then they will closed on BS670486. At 1540hrs Charlie Company 1st V Platoon moving out to BS668494 and at 1630hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon V Patrol closed on BS673493 and 1st Platoon 59 V Patrol is moving on BS672491. At 1744hrs Charlie Company 59 V Patrol closed on BS673493. At 1957hrs Charlie Company closed on their Night Defense Position at BS673493. Charlie Company has 4 Mechanical Ambushes out and has field strength of 49.
Delta Company
August 10, 1971
Delta Company will be using saturation patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1145hrs the 2nd Platoon at checkpoint 1 at BS660486 and established there rally point. At 1435hrs Delta Company 59-29-56 elements closed on their rally point at BS660486 and Delta Company is moving to their Night Defense Position at BS658488. At 1955hrs Delta Company 59, 56 and 29 elements is moving into their Change Night Defense Position at BS656488.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry.
